Chapter 316: Chapter 315: The Apex of the Flash

---Konoha - The Kenway Compound - Backyard---

Silence held the battlefield, broken only by the faint, settling hum of Alaric’s barrier seals.

Minato Namikaze stood completely motionless. He did not adopt a defensive stance, nor did he raise a weapon. His palms remained pressed together in a singular, centering seal. To the untrained eye, he was simply vulnerable. But to those who understood the delicate, terrifying arithmetic of natural energy, he was a bomb waiting for the fuse to burn down.

It took precisely one minute.

For a man attempting to balance his physical and spiritual energies with the chaotic, overwhelming force of nature itself, sixty seconds was an impossibly, absurdly short window. It was a testament to a genius that defied generation.

The subtle density in the air suddenly snapped inward, drawn into the Fourth Hokage’s core.

Minato’s eyelids fluttered open.

The warm, cerulean blue of his irises had bled into a piercing, luminous yellow. The pupils were no longer round, but sharp, horizontal bars that spoke of ancient, amphibious predators. A rich, vibrant orange pigmentation framed his eyes, marking the absolute, flawless synchronization with the world around him.

The gentle breeze died. The rustling of the cherry blossoms ceased. It was as if the very environment was holding its breath in reverence.

Alaric didn’t move from his relaxed posture, but his electric-blue eyes widened a fraction as his sensory abilities were flooded with the sheer, symbiotic depth of Minato’s new state. The Hokage didn’t just possess chakra now; he was the environment.

”A perfect Sage Mode in sixty seconds,” Alaric murmured, his voice carrying a rich, genuine note of admiration. He offered a slow, respectful clap that echoed across the ruined lawn. ”You are truly a terrifying genius, Namikaze.”

Minato did not reply with words. He merely offered a small, knowing smile, though the warmth in his expression was now underscored by the cold, vast weight of nature.

On the veranda, Haku’s breath hitched. He could feel the profound, tectonic shift in the atmosphere. Minato’s aura was no longer just the sharp, directed intent of a lethal shinobi; it felt boundless, harmonized completely with the earth beneath their feet and the air filling their lungs.

”So this is Sage Mode, huh?” Haku whispered, his dark eyes tracing the orange markings on Minato’s face. The sheer scale of the power up was intoxicating.

”Yeah,” Kushina replied softly, leaning against the wooden railing. A proud, radiant smile graced her lips, though her violet eyes were fixed intently on Alaric. She had been quietly surprised that the blonde stranger had been able to effortlessly match her husband’s base speed without so much as breaking a sweat. ”This time, however, I’m genuinely curious as to how that man will face Minato.”

Haku turned his head slightly to listen, then shifted his gaze back to the two blondes standing at the center of the geometric storm. ’To draw power from the world itself... it perfectly bypasses the limits of the human vessel,’ Haku thought, his analytical mind already dissecting the tactical applications. ’I should probably seek out a summoning contract soon and learn Sage Mode as well.’

Then, the world shattered.

Minato didn’t just vanish; the space where he stood simply expelled him, unable to contain his acceleration.

Alaric’s instincts screamed.

Above.

Minato was already there. His physical strength, speed, and reaction times hadn’t merely increased... they had been multiplied. He drove a heel downward with the force of a falling meteor. Alaric crossed his forearms, channeling dense wind chakra to cushion the blow, but the sheer kinetic impact drove him to his knees. The ground beneath Alaric cratered instantly, a ten-meter spiderweb of shattered stone and pulverized earth.

Before Alaric could even retaliate, Minato was gone.

Flicker. Flicker. Flicker.

Golden flashes erupted from every conceivable angle. Minato was no longer just utilizing the Hiraishin to move; he was chaining it into seamless, overlapping combinations that defied the laws of physics. He struck from the left, a brutal palm thrust that Alaric barely parried; then instantly from below, an uppercut that forced Alaric to bend backward unnaturally; then from behind, a sweeping kick that finally slipped past Alaric’s guard and slammed into his ribs.

Alaric grunted, skidding backward across the frost-rimed grass, his boots carving deep trenches into the soil.

’He’s fast... too fast,’ Alaric thought, a thrilling, dangerous spike of adrenaline flooding his system. He hadn’t been pushed like this since his ascension. ’This is good!’

Minato didn’t give him a microsecond to recover. He materialized directly in front of Alaric, an orb of spiraling blue chakra already roaring in his palm. There was no charge time. No gathering of energy. The natural world supplied the chakra instantaneously. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

’Sage Art: Rasengan!’

Alaric couldn’t steal it this time. The sphere was too dense, too violently infused with Senjutsu to be easily hijacked. He threw himself to the side, allowing the Rasengan to graze his shoulder. The abrasive force tore through his crimson coat and shredded his sleeve, drawing a fierce spray of blood.

The Rasengan slammed into the invisible barrier behind Alaric, the collision sparking a massive, concussive shockwave that rippled across the yard.

Minato was relentless. He tossed a handful of marked kunai into the air, turning the immediate airspace into a three-dimensional minefield of teleportation markers. He bounced between the falling blades, striking Alaric with rapid, bone-crushing precision.

Alaric parried, blocked, and redirected, his hands moving in a desperate, flawless blur, but he was undeniably losing ground. For every three strikes he deflected, one found its mark. A knee to the thigh. An elbow to the jaw.

Minato appeared on a kunai falling directly over Alaric’s head. His right hand plunged forward, a second, larger Rasengan already howling with destructive intent, aimed perfectly at Alaric’s heart. It was a checkmate. A lethal, unavoidable strike executed with the absolute perfection of the Kiiroi Senkō.

Alaric’s eyes snapped upward. The electric blue vanished.

The geometric, crimson pinwheel of the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan flared to life.

Kamui.

Minato’s Rasengan descended, carrying the force to obliterate a mountain... and passed completely, harmlessly through Alaric’s chest.

For a fraction of a second, Minato’s sage-yellow eyes widened in absolute, paralyzing shock as his arm sunk into empty air where a heart should have been. The momentum carried him forward, his feet hitting the ground as his jutsu dispersed into the earth, leaving him standing mere inches from Alaric’s back.

Minato stopped.

He didn’t launch a follow-up strike. He didn’t teleport away. He froze, the air around him suddenly dropping in temperature, thick with a cold, creeping dread.

He turned slowly, staring at the blonde man who had just casually allowed his body to become intangible. Minato’s gaze locked onto the glowing, crimson eyes spinning in Alaric’s sockets.

The memory hit him like a physical blow. A masked man in the dead of night. The cries of his newborn son. The chain wrapping around his arms. The desperate, terrifying realization that his opponent could simply slip through reality.

”You...” Minato’s voice trembled slightly, not with fear, but with a sudden, overwhelming surge of protective rage. He took a slow, deliberate step back, his kunai raised. ”That eye... that jutsu. Are you an Uchiha?”

Alaric straightened up, brushing a speck of dirt from his ruined sleeve. He let the Kamui deactivate, though his Sharingan remained active, casting a crimson hue over his sharp features.

”Not exactly,” Alaric chuckled, shaking his head. ”I have the blood, undoubtedly. It’s hard to deny the biology when the eyes are staring right at you. But I certainly don’t classify myself as one. I mean, look at me.” He gestured vaguely to his tall, muscular build and platinum blonde hair. ”I hardly fit the brooding, raven-haired aesthetic.”

Minato didn’t smile. His grip on his kunai tightened until his knuckles turned white. The genial, respectful sparring partner was gone; the Hokage who had watched his wife die was demanding answers.

”That technique you just used to evade my strike,” Minato said, his tone dropping into a dangerous, icy register. ”I have only ever seen one other person use it. The masked man who attacked Konoha on the night of Naruto’s birth. The man who unleashed the Nine-Tails.”

Minato’s yellow eyes narrowed into slits. ”What is your relationship with him?”

Alaric met the Hokage’s furious gaze without a shred of hesitation. He held his hands up in a placating gesture, recognizing the explosive volatility of the topic.

”I assure you, Namikaze, I have absolutely no connection to him,” Alaric stated firmly, his voice devoid of its usual playful lilt. ”We are not allies. We are not friends. In fact, if he ever steps foot near my property, I’ll likely mount his head on my wall.” He paused, his expression turning thoughtful. ”Although... I do know a great deal about him. His identity, his motives, his ultimate endgame.”

Minato’s breath caught in his throat. The ghost that had haunted him into the afterlife... the architect of his family’s destruction... was suddenly laid bare before him.

”I have questions,” Minato demanded, his voice echoing with absolute authority. ”A lot of them.”

Alaric grinned, the sharp, predatory smile returning to his face. The adrenaline was singing in his veins, and he had no intention of ending the dance just yet.

”I imagine you do,” Alaric replied smoothly. ”And I’ll answer them. But let’s make a deal.”

He cracked his neck, his Eternal Mangekyō spinning lazily.

”If you can somehow satisfy me through your performance in this fight... if you can truly push me to my absolute edge... I will answer five of your questions. Anything you want to know about the Masked Man, the Akatsuki, or the future of this world. Complete, unfiltered truth.”

Minato stared at him. He weighed the proposition, measuring the man before him. Alaric was holding back; Minato could feel the dormant, oceanic reserves of power still sleeping within the blonde anomaly.

”Five questions,” Minato repeated softly.

”Five,” Alaric confirmed.

Minato lowered his head. He closed his eyes, and when he opened them, the serene, natural energy of Sage Mode was violently eclipsed.

Deep within his core, the seal locking the Yin half of the Nine-Tails resonated. He didn’t just borrow the chakra; he synchronized with it.

”Very well.”

BOOOOOOM.

A pillar of pure, incandescent golden energy erupted from Minato’s body, shattering the very air around him. The blinding light roared toward the heavens, incinerating the lingering clouds above the compound.

When the light receded, Minato stood transformed.

He was cloaked in a shroud of burning, yellow-orange chakra that licked at the air like living flames. Intricate, geometric black magatama patterns adorned his collar and chest, lines of sealing script trailing down his arms and legs. His hair spiked upward, glowing like a miniature sun.

Kurama Chakra Mode.

The sheer, suffocating pressure of his combined Sage and Tailed Beast chakra cracked the stone beneath his feet. On the veranda, Haku and Kushina were physically forced to take a step back, raising their arms to shield their faces from the torrential gale of energy rolling off the Fourth Hokage.

”You wanted my absolute edge,” Minato’s voice was layered, echoing with the deep, rumbling resonance of the Nine-Tails combined with his own. ”Try not to die, Alaric.”

Before Alaric could even blink, a massive, golden chakra arm erupted from Minato’s back, stretching thirty feet in a microsecond to slam into Alaric’s chest.

The impact launched Alaric backward like a cannonball. He smashed through three of the reinforced training posts before he managed to dig his heels into the earth, carving a massive trench through the yard.

Alaric looked up, coughing a small laugh as he wiped a smear of blood from his chin. ”Oh, this is going to be fun.”

Minato vanished. Not with a flash, but simply ceasing to occupy the space.

Alaric didn’t hesitate. He flooded his system with chakra, calling upon his deepest reserves.

Minato appeared above him, bringing down a massive, Senjutsu-infused Rasengan the size of a carriage.

’Vulcan!’

Alaric’s eyes flashed. From the very atoms of the air and the trace minerals in the earth, a massive, dome-like shield of impossibly dense, black titanium materialized instantly above him. The Rasengan crashed into the metal. The shriek of grinding chakra and tearing alloy was deafening, the titanium glowing white-hot under the friction before finally buckling.

But the delay was all Alaric needed.

He phased through the earth using Kamui, dropping beneath the surface just as the shield shattered, and reappeared ten meters behind Minato. ’Wood Release: Great Forest Thrust!’

Massive, hardened timber spikes erupted from the ground, tracking Minato with homing precision. The Hokage didn’t even turn. Two golden chakra arms extended from his sides, catching the massive wooden spears and snapping them like twigs before he threw a barrage of marked kunai in every direction.

The fight devolved into a cataclysm of speed and elemental fury that the human eye could no longer track.

To Haku and Kushina, the combatants were reduced to streaks of light... one a burning, golden sun, the other a shifting phantom of crimson, metal, and wood.

Alaric was pushed to the absolute defensive. Minato’s speed in Kurama Chakra Mode was incomprehensible. The Hokage would strike, teleport, strike again, and manifest chakra limbs to attack from blind spots simultaneously.

A glancing blow from a chakra tail caught Alaric’s side, tearing away a chunk of flesh and searing his ribs.

’Eros!’

Alaric’s internal cells flooded with hyper-regenerative energy. The wound hissed, steam rising as muscle and skin knitted back together perfectly in less than a second, leaving unblemished flesh behind.

’He’s actually faster than me,’ Alaric marveled internally as he summoned a flurry of metal blades via Vulcan to intercept an incoming barrage of Rasengan spheres. ’His strength output is higher, his speed is unmatched... I’m relying on intangibility, instant healing, and terrain control just to stay in the ring.’

A wide, exhilarated grin spread across Alaric’s face as he deflected a massive chakra claw with a hastily erected wall of ironwood.

”It’s really nice to be able to fight like this!” Alaric shouted over the roaring shockwaves, his voice vibrating with pure joy. ”I’m finally able to go all out!”

CRACK.

The sky above the compound shuddered. The outermost barrier seal, designed to withstand a direct hit from a Tailed Beast Bomb, began to fracture, glowing dangerously red as the pressure inside the yard reached critical mass.

Alaric slid back, parrying a devastating kick from Minato that sent a shockwave outward, entirely uprooting the beautiful cherry blossom tree at the center of the yard.

Alaric glanced toward the veranda. Kushina had manifested her golden Adamantine Sealing Chains, anchoring herself and Haku to the foundation of the house just to keep from being blown away by the atmospheric pressure. Haku was struggling to stand, his teeth gritted against the overwhelming gravity of their combined chakra.

”Timeout!” Alaric yelled, raising a hand and using Kamui to let Minato’s subsequent strike pass safely through his neck.

Minato paused, his golden cloak burning fiercely, ready to launch a Tailed Beast Rasengan. ”Yielding?”

”Hardly,” Alaric grinned, reforming his physical body. He gestured to the cracking barrier above and the two spectators struggling on the porch. ”But if we keep this up, I’m not going to have a house left, and your wife is going to kill you for destroying her newly acquired body.”

Minato glanced back, his glowing eyes softening instantly as he saw Kushina struggling against the wind pressure. He let the gathering chakra sphere in his hand dissipate. ”You’re right. This place cannot contain this.”

”Let’s take this somewhere else,” Alaric suggested, rolling his shoulders.

Minato nodded.

Without a sound, Alaric vanished.

He didn’t use the Flying Thunder God, nor did he use Zero Friction. He utilized pure, unadulterated spatial folding... a mechanic of his system that required no markers. He appeared instantly beside Haku on the veranda.

Haku’s eyes widened in profound shock. He hadn’t sensed a marker. He hadn’t seen the movement. It was fundamentally faster than his ultimate speed.

Alaric reached out, clapping a firm hand on Haku’s shoulder. He turned back to look at the golden Hokage hovering over the ruined lawn.

”We’re going to the Valley of the End,” Alaric declared. ”There’s nobody out there to complain about the noise.”

Minato, in a flash of yellow light, materialized instantly beside Kushina, his chakra cloak receding slightly so as not to burn her. He looked down at his wife, offering a gentle smile.

”Do you still want to see the end of this?” Minato asked warmly.

Kushina scoffed, flipping her red hair over her shoulder with a fierce, challenging grin. ”Of course, duh!? I wouldn’t miss you knocking that arrogant smirk off his face for all the ramen in the world!”

Minato chuckled, placing a protective hand on her shoulder. He looked across the porch to Alaric.

”Lead the way.”

Alaric smirked.

FLASH.

The four of them vanished from the veranda, leaving behind a ruined garden and a silence that felt heavier than the battle itself.
