I Am Your Natural Enemy

Wen Yan watched the girl’s behavior and knew in his heart that Doctor Wei was spot on.

According to the information he received earlier, it started with the witch, then the Taoist priest, and later the witchcraft Gu.

The lineage of witchcraft has been hit hard twice, during the Dynasty Qin and Han.

This witchcraft Gu reacting to the things made by the Witch Priest is a very normal phenomenon.

After all, according to his understanding and speculation, apart from now, perhaps no one has ever tasted the fried chicken made by the Witch Priest in thousands of years past.

In the era when Witch Priests were active, it was unlikely they had the luxury of so many spices and seasonings, nor the extravagance to use fat to fry chicken.

The witchcraft Gu of this era is quite lucky.

Virtue City happens to have a Witch Priest who also loves cooking.

Wen Yan, while eating fried chicken and drinking sour plum soup, pondered these things idly in his mind.

The young girl was eating non-stop, looking at Wen Yan as if he had no reaction, she carefully examined the fried chicken, seemingly missing the chili peppers.

But thinking about it, she had seen extremely spicy grilled wings before, which seemed to not be about chilies, but some sort of spicy oil brushed on.

After hesitating several times, the young girl posed her question.

”Brother Wen, this fried chicken, is it not numbing or spicy?”

”Yes.” Wen Yan promptly nodded.

”...” The young girl holding a small chicken leg froze: ”Then why do I feel numb and spicy?”

”You’re allergic.”

”Ah?”

”What’s strange about it, people with allergies taste different flavors when eating certain things. For example, someone allergic to eggplant might taste either numbness or spiciness.”

”But... but I didn’t have an allergy eating fried chicken before?”

”What’s strange about it, whether a person is allergic to something and the degree of allergy is not static.

Some people were allergic to eggs when they were young and would sleep very well after eating one.

As they grow up, they may not be allergic anymore, which is quite normal.

Some people’s physical condition changes, and things they weren’t allergic to before make them allergic now, which is perfectly normal.

You should be thankful that you can still be allergic to something now; it’s a good thing.

It’s just a change in taste, so no big deal.

As long as it’s tasty, don’t worry about the rest.”

The young girl was left speechless; Wen Yan’s words seemed reasonable, but she felt something was off, yet with her knowledge reserve, she couldn’t pinpoint it.

Hold on, if an allergic reaction is severe, it could be fatal, right?

Is it really nothing to worry about?

Wait a minute, Brother Wen’s words seem to make sense, after all, she was just treating a dead horse like a living one, so indeed happiness is all that matters, why worry so much.

She indeed hadn’t felt the joy from eating in a long time.

Despite feeling both numbing and spicy and breaking into a sweat, she inexplicably felt very happy, as if her belly was warm once the food was inside.

The young girl ate rather messily, sweating profusely, her bangs sticking to her forehead in strands; while eating, she started laughing to herself.

As she ate, her face progressively reddened, she coughed lightly, and then blood began to spurt from her nostrils and mouth.

Once it spurted out, the bright red color on the girl’s face quickly cooled, turning to a normal shade, white with a hint of red, looking quite healthy.

Wen Yan responded quickly. As soon as the girl showed signs of reacting, he was already retreating two meters away, one hand holding the fried chicken and the other the sour plum soup.

Wen Yan placed the items on the cabinet nearby, pulled out a few tissues, handed them to the girl, then stared at the blood on the ground.

As the blood hit the ground, it appeared a dark red, but very quickly its color dulled, turning to a faint red, resembling venous blood spreading in the water.

Feeling the vigor from the girl’s body, suddenly it seemed to grow a bit stronger; this vitality was evidently enhanced.

”It seems you’re not only allergic but overheated as well, better refrain from eating. If you want more later, buy some, just control the quantity.”

”...”

The young girl wiped her nosebleed and wisely didn’t ask why.

No matter how confused she was, she understood that overheating couldn’t just happen the moment she started eating, to the extent of having a nosebleed without even finishing.

She knew no matter how she asked, Wen Yan could always come up with a very fitting explanation aligned with Nanwu County people’s understanding.

Overheating in Nanwu County is an all-purpose explanation, any condition can be related to overheating.

As she wiped the blood, a hint of regret arose within her; she genuinely liked eating this fried chicken, despite it being both numbing and spicy enough to mask the chicken’s flavor.

In theory, chicken lacking a chicken flavor is quite unacceptable in Nanwu County.

Yet she found herself inexplicably fond of it, even liking it despite sweating profusely from the spiciness.

Wen Yan chuckled; he simply thought of it on his way back and decided to test it out, unexpectedly, achieving even better results than anticipated.

Wang Jianjun, recovering from injuries in Virtue City, is a restless person; once able to move, he went to sit in the fried chicken shop, offering some advice and just then got caught by Wen Yan.

Thus, Wen Yan had this impulsive idea.

Currently, the results seem great; previously this girl had no instinctive will to survive, now it has been triggered.

Despite being too spicy to eat, causing a nosebleed, her face still showed obvious regret, a sign her survival instinct was activated.

Looking at the light reddish stains on the ground, Wen Yan recalled the medical records he had seen before; indeed the issue was within the blood. The previous treatment methods were not ineffective, they provided relief, but didn’t pinpoint the root issue or resolve it.
