I Am Your Natural Enemy

More than twenty little ghosts, he killed twenty in a row, and Wen Yan still showed no sign of stopping.

On the contrary, as it went on, his patience seemed to grow thinner and thinner. Whenever a little ghost’s turn came, he couldn’t even be bothered to ask questions anymore. He would walk up, and the moment he saw that ghost had no intention of talking happily and straightforwardly, he sent it off immediately.

The look on Wen Yan’s face was growing uglier and uglier, more and more impatient.

He was making it clear to these little ghosts: I don’t care if there are fewer and fewer of you.

It’s not that the fewer of you there are, the more valuable the intel you have; it’s that I’m just running out of patience.

By the time he got to the last three, that little ghost whose neck was almost strangled off, the instant Gray Cloth loosened his grip, suddenly started babbling like his tongue had slipped, words tumbling out at breakneck speed.

”Old Master Wang went out, his grandson was attacked by someone and got injured.

It wasn’t us who attacked him, we wouldn’t dare. If Old Master Wang found out, he’d have all of us killed.

We only dared come here because Old Master Wang wasn’t around, and even then we didn’t dare hurt anyone.

They’re just greedy for fun, greedy for food, greedy for drink—stir people up to quarrel, suck a bit of resentment for a snack.

In a couple of days when Old Master Wang comes back, we’ll run.

We really didn’t hurt anyone, we really wouldn’t dare.

There used to be a nest of little ghosts that tricked a man into falling off a cliff, and Old Master Wang transcended the whole nest in one go.”

The little ghost chattered on and on, and even made Wen Yan laugh.

If he hadn’t seen little ghosts the last time he came, and hadn’t crammed some knowledge about little ghosts before he came this time, he might actually have believed him a little.

”You just stopped the others from talking, so why are you talking now?”

”They might not know. If they finish talking, what’s left for me to say?”

”Makes sense.”

Then Wen Yan pinched that little ghost, threw him into the door, and sent him to the Western Paradise.

Wen Yan looked at the two little ghosts left. The two of them were about to be scared pissless. They themselves were capricious as hell, but they’d never seen anyone more capricious than them—smiling cheerfully while beating people to death. They’d never seen this kind of villain either.

”Don’t waste time. Don’t bother with nonsense like what he just said. My patience is extremely limited.

If I’m not satisfied with the intel you give, you’ll end up just like the ones before you.”

The two remaining little ghosts looked at each other. The one in front hesitated for a moment, hadn’t even figured out what to say yet, and Wen Yan already took him out.

Only the last one remained. Wen Yan didn’t even feel like asking anymore; he grabbed him and was about to throw him out when that little ghost hurriedly said,

”I know, I know.”

Seeing that Wen Yan had no intention of stopping at all, the little ghost didn’t dare tug at him, and quickly said,

”We were acting under orders, specifically did something to lure Old Master Wang away.

The Mountain Deity suddenly gave the order, and we didn’t dare ask much.

But at that time I happened to secretly see it—I saw a corpse with its head smashed open and face ruined, staggering into the mountain.

It really was a corpse, I’m sure I didn’t see wrong.”

”That’s it?”

”Really. The day we came out, I secretly took a good look—the Mountain Deity’s feet were exactly the same as the feet of that corpse I saw that day.”

”Where did Old Master Wang go?”

”To the mountains to gather herbs.”

”What else?”

”Don’t know...”

”Then what use are you?”

Wen Yan casually threw the little ghost onto the door.

He turned around and gazed toward the outside of the village, his figure blurred, and he vanished from where he stood.

As for that corpse, of course he knew whose it was—it was the corpse of the elderly Fifteenth Wang.

Back then Fifteenth Wang killed himself by ramming his head into the wall, and Wen Yan only took his soul.

On the one hand, the rift was about to close at the time and things were urgent; on the other hand, Wen Yan had deliberately left it.

Inside this Sealing, everything is fake, but for the people here, everything is real.

This ”real” only preserves the progression of events, preserves the Power itself.

Just like Wang Jianjun—he’s never been in the Sealing at all, yet his childhood self still exists here.

Old Master Wang also died back then, the funeral rites were done, and he was buried normally.

But inside the Sealing, there is still the Old Master Wang from that time.

Back then the Mountain Ghost could possess the elderly Fifteenth Wang, but didn’t possess any of the other people in the Sealing.

Wen Yan knew then that the Mountain Ghost could only possess real people, those that truly exist.

Everyone inside this Sealing, aside from the sealed Mountain Ghost, does not truly exist.

If there was a truly existing corpse left here, what would the Mountain Ghost do?

He’d have no choice. That would be his only option.

Wen Yan wasn’t worried that the Mountain Ghost was too strong; he was worried the enemy wouldn’t have a body at all—no physical form, invisible, untouchable. That was the most annoying kind.

Since the Mountain Ghost had once possessed a body, then he might as well give him one and only one option.

Now it seemed the Mountain Ghost really hadn’t let him down, and actually chose that corpse.

And from the little ghost’s description, Wen Yan could roughly infer that Old Master Wang probably no longer remembered him, nor did he remember that this place was actually a Sealing.

Old Master Wang was still doing things according to the normal trajectory.

But the Mountain Ghost might remember what happened before. After all, the only thing truly existing here is the Mountain Ghost.

In the past, with only the Mountain Ghost remembering, it was probably a form of torment—literally ”decades as one day.”

Now, it might have instead become the Mountain Ghost’s advantage.

Wen Yan skimmed along almost scraping the ground, speeding to the place where the rift had been the last time. He examined it closely; there were no traces here, Old Master Wang likely hadn’t come.

He continued to dart swiftly from one mountain ridge to another, as if riding the wind through the sky.
