I Am Your Natural Enemy

”You’re older, with a long history, so you might not have heard the story of ’Yu Gong Moves the Mountain’, right?”

Wen Yan took out his phone, searched for the story, and recounted it to the Mountain Ghost according to what he found.

”Did you get anything from that?

Do you think I’m also playing the game of endless descendants with you?

You’re overthinking. I’m just afraid you’re too ignorant to know what’s about to happen next.

I’m kindly telling you in advance; what’s about to happen is a modern version of moving mountains.

It should be quick, maybe too quick for you to celebrate a funeral feast.

Do you understand?

Now you can start being afraid.”

Wen Yan felt the changes in the mountain’s aura and chuckled.

Understanding fear is good, otherwise, with the Mountain Ghost’s insight, he probably wouldn’t take the ordinary people gathered here seriously, nor would he know that the ones truly sending him to death are those ordinary people he wouldn’t even glance at.

Sitting on the mountaintop, Wen Yan watched the busy people below and then gazed into the distance, where excavators were already advancing along the mountain ditches.

”While you’re still alive, I have something to ask you.

You previously collapsed all the passages here, forcing me into the underground river.

The only exit I found from the underground river connecting to the external rivers was a tributary of the Yellow River.

Once I exited, I was targeted.

At first, I thought it was the Yellow River God, given that my sect elders had grudges with him.

Only later did the real force of the Yellow River God appear.

I was thinking, since it wasn’t the Yellow River God at the beginning, the person targeting me might not have even seen my face.

Why did he target me as soon as I crossed into the river?

He was obviously trying to exhaust me and drown me, clearly intent on killing.

I also thought, you watched me leave yet had to throw a harsh word.

So I guessed you knew from the start that if I fell into the underground river, there were only two outcomes.

Either I’d be trapped to death inside or find an exit and immediately be targeted.

Right?”

Wen Yan felt the change in the mountain’s aura; the Mountain Ghost was still terrified, and he couldn’t feel anything else.

”It doesn’t matter if you don’t say anything, I’ll verify it myself later.

As long as I have a suspect, that’s enough.

I’ve been reading a lot recently and came across a theory by a predecessor in one of the books.

Among all things, the most penetrating are the common air and water.

These two things exist everywhere, in all things and places.

Even in the driest desert, these two things are present alike.

Reminded by you, I thought of this theory.

The only things that can penetrate your seal are probably these two mediums.

Previously, at the Yellow River tributary, I escaped pursuit thanks to a great force that even the Water God couldn’t control.

I suspect the power penetrating your seal is also leveraging this great force?”

Wen Yan felt the Mountain Ghost’s aura; apart from fear, he sensed nothing else. He sighed and stood up.

”Alright, now you can slowly feel the fear before death; in the end, you won’t make it to celebrate a funeral.”

Wen Yan didn’t care if the Mountain Ghost understood, he turned and descended the mountain.

Three days later, Wen Yan stood on a distant mountaintop, with a pile of equipment in front of him.

The Minister of Central Plains County was present personally, watching several small peaks ahead that somewhat resembled a hand, and then signaled to Wen Yan.

”Everything has been confirmed three times here, everything is ready, do you want to give it a try?”

”Is it appropriate?”

”No problem, go ahead.”

Wen Yan couldn’t resist. He quickly consulted a nearby expert.

Then he came to the command platform.

”According to the original plan, prepare to detonate, ten-second countdown.

Ten, nine... three, two, one.

Detonate.”

As Wen Yan gave the command, a series of rhythmic explosions echoed from the distant small peaks.

The mountain bodies seemed to swell like waves, and after swelling, they began to collapse and crumble.

Wen Yan watched a little mountain made mostly of stone get blasted apart, feeling very pleased.

He looked at the Minister of Central Plains County beside him and casually asked,

”Where will all this blasted rubble be sent?”

”Find a place to fill it, as materials.”

”Hmm, wasn’t it a tradition of the Scorching Sun Department to bury them at sea?”

”???”
