I Am Your Natural Enemy

The employees of the Scorching Sun Department have great benefits. Anyone with some merit has almost full coverage of personal medical insurance, and those with genuine honors can include their parents, children, and spouse in this insurance benefit.

If one has made significant contributions, the benefits extend across three generations, and if necessary, jobs for spouses and children will be arranged.

The bonuses field agents receive and the accumulated merits are actually the least important things.

This is why field agents dare to risk their lives; they have virtually no worries about the future.

Even if they sacrifice themselves, the compensation, along with subsequent welfare support, ensures that even if their descendants are quite ordinary, they will have a base standard of living, avoiding hardship.

If their descendants are somewhat accomplished, then, many times, there is a priority.

Most internal staff at the Scorching Sun Department are ordinary people who cannot go into the field. Among them are some who are orphans of martyrs.

Now someone is targeting the family members of Scorching Sun Department members, which is even more intolerable than targeting the members themselves.

After Feng Yao reported the matter, its priority naturally became very high.

In the past, even those with permissions in the Scorching Sun Department wouldn’t casually look at members’ family information. The higher the rank, the higher the confidentiality level of family members, and without necessity, attention wouldn’t be drawn to the family members of the Scorching Sun Department.

This time there’s no alternative; a screening must be done first.

In headquarters, the General Director looked at Feng Yao’s compiled report, watching it with a solemn expression for quite a while.

Just like when he heard about Gold Coin Chocolate, he immediately set it to top secret, blocking the news.

At this moment, when facing a task that must be done, which seemingly has no reason for hesitation, he first thought deeply.

Doing this now means needing personnel, not just a few, but dozens of people.

Across Divine Land, each commandery will require at least dozens of people to share the workload.

This also means suddenly there will be many people with the right to access this information.

There was an internal staff member, manipulated, used through emotions, the General Director knew without checking that there are others, who just haven’t reached the point of selling secrets yet.

Additionally, Wen Yan selected three people, with two having little suspicion, but the third having considerable suspicion, even though everything seemed reasonable and compliant on the surface.

In Nanwu County, there’s a saying: once a cockroach is discovered at home, there might already be a nest in the dark corners.

When an organization becomes large enough to cover the entire Divine Land, one cannot expect everyone to be completely problem-free, hence the varying confidentiality levels and permissions.

If the Scorching Sun Department were truly awesome enough that all members never disclosed secrets, then it would be outsiders who start fearing them.

Even in the current state of the Scorching Sun Department, those around are actually already fearful.

The General Director considered Feng Yao’s proposal, finding no issue, but it couldn’t be executed normally.

He was highly suspicious that each move was paving the way for later actions.

The other side was not afraid of them noticing anything because even if they did, they still had to act.

As long as things proceed along the normal path, if even one of the people involved is someone who’s been turned or is still struggling, the other party is likely to easily grasp a large amount of employee family information.

This turns into a positive feedback loop, a snowball-like cycle, where the other side can continuously tempt more people to secretly sell intelligence using tools like Gold Coin Chocolate.

Today it might be selling intelligence; in the future, someone might steal things or betray larger interests.

Furthermore, those with high subjective malice tend to hide more, unlike this case, which was easily solved.

After much consideration, the General Director closed the document, deciding not to follow the regular procedures or pathways.

If it were the health and sanitation office doing an internal check, it might be possible.

But when it involves member family members and an existing precedent, it can’t be done this way.

The General Director picked up the phone and dialed a number.

”Old Wu, when can the new supercomputing center be put to use?”

”Everything is proceeding in an orderly manner and will definitely be completed before the scheduled deadline.”

”Old Wu, cut the official talk, just give me a definite answer; I urgently need it for a series of deployments. If I wait until then, it’ll be too late.”

”It’s really soon, you know the current situation; many parts aren’t easy to procure now.

Recently, external economic pressure has been high, and those guys even plan to use these parts as bargaining chips.

The higher-ups are saying that what we can handle ourselves, we’ll go ahead with using, even if some parts’ performance is slightly lacking; stability is key.”

It’s basically almost there, definitely able to conduct tests before the new year.”

”Thank you for the effort.” The General Director hung up the phone, feeling relieved.

The demand for data processing capability keeps increasing, and the pressure continues to build, especially this year, as issues have multiplied and existing computing power can’t keep up.

The urgency for computing power has arrived two years earlier than predicted a few years ago.

This year’s top plans clearly prioritized thermal power as the option to guarantee because it’s the most stable, ensuring stable power supply is primary, followed by developing clean energy.
