I Am Your Natural Enemy

After swiftly conveying the message, the Internal Staff immediately closed the door and left.

The demon inside had a jolt in his heart, but still muttered a few complaints under his breath.

All its actions were recorded by the camera in the corner, and it dared not show any unusual behavior.

Meanwhile, the Internal Staff, holding a file, checked the label and went to another interrogation room where two interrogators were questioning someone.

The Internal Staff passed the file over and whispered softly in the interrogator’s ear.

”Important intelligence just delivered.”

After delivering the file, the Internal Staff turned and left.

This did not raise any alarms among the internal personnel. When there is updated intelligence, it must be delivered immediately when the interrogation is taking advantage of the captured target’s unstable emotions.

Of course, sometimes, there really is no urgent intelligence, but delivering new files during the interrogation is also a means to apply psychological pressure on the suspect.

When the suspect does not know what information they possess, the suspect will inevitably suspect that the newly delivered items might be evidence or important clues that could condemn him.

Sometimes, the contents of the delivered file might be no different from two sheets of blank paper.

This time, the Internal Staff simply delivered to the wrong door, and no one paid particular attention to this matter.

A member who has worked in the department for twenty years, once on the front line, transferred to Internal Staff after getting injured, and is working overtime again until late tonight, no one minds a little mistake of his.

Even if seen by the leader, at most, they would say to be careful next time.

The Internal Staff returned to his workplace, and the department head in charge saw the Internal Staff looking exhausted, and walked over to pat his shoulder.

”Go home early.”

”Head... ”

”Go home, it’s fine. Work is never-ending. It’s so late, go home early, you can still have a late meal with your daughter.

Your daughter probably hasn’t seen you for a few days, right?

You get home when she’s asleep, and leave for work before she wakes up.

She’s just recovered from a serious illness, you should spend more time with her.”

The Internal Staff hesitated for a moment and nodded.

He tidied up a bit and left the Scorching Sun Department’s base.

When he reached the doorstep, he took out some disinfectant, sterilized his whole body, and waited for the scent to disperse before opening the door and entering his home.

Returning home, he saw the television on, and a skinny, pale little girl lying like a small cat, under a blanket, curled up on the sofa.

He gently came inside, and the little girl on the sofa sniffed in her sleep, detecting the familiar smell of sterilizer, and immediately opened her eyes.

”Dad, you’re back?”

The little girl sat up, and as she was about to get up from the sofa, the Internal Staff quickly stepped forward.

”Did I wake you?”

”No, I wasn’t sleeping.” The little girl stretched out her arms, and was lifted by the Internal Staff, resting on the man’s shoulder, gently sniffing the familiar smell of sterilizer.

”Dad, why are you back early today?”

”Got off work early today. Did you have dinner? How are you feeling today?”

”I did. Auntie made pork and mushroom soup today. It was delicious. I saved you some.”

The man smiled, his eyes creasing, and he felt inside his pocket, taking out something wrapped in gold paper, shaped like a gold coin.

”I brought you something tasty, the same as last time.”

”The chocolate from last time?”

”Yes, imported.”

He carefully peeled off the gold foil, revealing the chocolate inside, dark with a hint of red.

He gently unwrapped it and fed the chocolate to the little girl.

”Is it tasty?”

”Very bitter.”

”Bitter is right; true bitterness will be followed by more sweet aftertaste.” The Internal Staff’s tone carried a complicated undertone.

After seeing the little girl completely ate it, he discreetly put the gold foil that wrapped the chocolate into his own pocket.

He went to heat up a bowl of pork and mushroom soup, took a small bowl, served some to the little girl, and steamed three char siu buns. The father and daughter sat at the dinner table, enjoying a rare meal together.

Seeing the little girl’s color improving and appetite returning.

The man smiled, and moments later, he carried his sleeping daughter back to the bedroom, sitting by the bed, watching his daughter.

It wasn’t until the silent phone lit up that he took the phone and closed the bedroom door.

He came to his own bedroom, looked at the phone silently for a long time, took out a phone stuck to the backside of the bed, and made a call.

”The job is done. The guy who got caught was reported by a Different Race.

The specifics are unknown, but I’ve already told him what should be said.

The rest is beyond what I am authorized to influence.”

”Three pieces,” a voice came through the phone.

The Internal Staff was silent, his face showing struggle.

Three pieces refer to three pieces of gold foil chocolate.

That strange wondrous items chocolate possesses the magical power to extend a person’s life.

One piece can extend life by about twenty-five to thirty-one days, depending entirely on the individual.

Three pieces mean three months of life.

His daughter was previously in critical condition. According to the hospital, based on her condition, post-surgery she might only have three to five more years to live, and that’s the ideal scenario.

He is now using this wondrous item to extend his daughter’s life.
