I Am Your Natural Enemy

He wasn’t afraid of the influence this little girl naturally carried, in fact, he quite liked the feeling. It was much more satisfying than practicing on his own, with heart fire constantly fueled by firewood.

If it were a real Heavenly Demon, it might not be so continuously fueled.

Settling the girl, making sure that anyone she could come into contact with was at least three meters away.

Then Wen Yan turned and left, holding his phone while looking up things related to poisonous insects in the Scorching Sun Department’s database.

Before long, he arrived at Wei’s Medical Hall again.

Wei Jing hadn’t clarified anything earlier, and Wen Yan didn’t ask; the two of them seemed to have a mutual understanding in this regard.

When Wen Yan arrived, Wei Jing had already packed his things, ready to go out. He was sitting there waiting, precisely for Wen Yan’s arrival.

Wen Yan came with two portions of fried chicken, which he placed directly on the table.

Then Wen Yan pointed to a nearby thermos.

”That’s naturally cooled sour plum soup, right? I just caught a familiar scent earlier.”

Wei Jing smiled silently, immediately grabbed a cup, and poured two glasses.

”You know your stuff.”

”Naturally cooled tastes very different from those that are cooled quickly. I grew up in the North, naturally familiar with this. During summer breaks, I even set up a stall at the night market to sell sour plum soup.”

”Try it.” Wei Jing said as he picked up the fried chicken and began eating. From the first bite, he knew it wasn’t fried by a Fox Demon; it was prepared and fried by a Witch Priest.

Since that priest handed over the shop, even if they returned now, it was hard to taste the food they personally made.

This time, when Wen Yan brought the patient here, he actually already understood Wen Yan’s intent.

Wen Yan really didn’t care who he was, just believing his medical skills could cure, just that simple.

After feeling the power the little girl carried, he could also determine that Wen Yan seemed unaffected.

If he were affected, he wouldn’t speak so directly, without regard for the patient’s feelings.

Eating fried chicken, drinking iced sour plum soup, Wen Yan rubbed his belly.

”This sour plum soup is really well boiled, no ingredient overpowers another, and none stands out too much; everything’s just right, Old Wei, why don’t you add a business, sell some sour plum soup.”

”Just a few days ago, neighbors advised me to sell herbal tea.”

”Hahaha...” Wen Yan laughed: ”Then the neighbors around really think you’re quite skilled. You have to know, these locals, they’d rather boil herbal tea themselves, but if they buy it outside, they have high standards for it. Just sell sour plum soup, forty bucks cost, five bucks a cup, not to be too greedy, selling seventy to eighty cups is no problem, mainly it’s simple and saves worry.”

Wei Jing sighed, to be honest, there weren’t many places he’d been where neighbors didn’t think he could make money, continuously giving him suggestions.

”Is it because you want to drink it yourself?”

”Yes, it’s hard to find high-standard, purely handcrafted, slowly cooled for half a day, without too much water added, nowadays it’s all powdered.”

”...” Wei Jing looked at Wen Yan, who admitted so righteously, and was momentarily speechless, directly shifting the topic to business.

”You’re here to ask about the little girl’s situation, right?”

”Yes, but you’d better explain it in a way I can understand. I’ve read many ancient books, and it gives me a headache.”

”Have you heard of Witchcraft Gu?”

”You mentioned it was a parasite before, was that a poisonous insect?” Wen Yan thought for a second, then quickly added, ”You’re saying this Witchcraft Gu isn’t the same as those Witchcraft Gu Puppets, right?”

”There is some connection, but not what people think today; witchcraft isn’t just about the puppets.

It’s a very complicated topic, with wide implications.

Even poisonous insects aren’t the same as what’s presently defined as insects.

Take snakes, for instance; they’re currently classified under the reptile category.

But in some places, certain types of snakes are actually considered poisonous insects.

And poisonous insects aren’t the same thing as witchcraft.

You might understand it as witchcraft encompassing poisonous insects.

Under witchcraft, the range of defined insects is very broad.

It’s not something that can be untangled in a short time.”

Wen Yan thought for a moment, roughly understanding Wei Jing’s point.

”Water drop containing forty-eight thousand insects?”

”Not entirely accurate, but since you’re not delving deeply, no need for detailed understanding.

If you get the gist, know the basics, that’s enough.

This little girl does have a parasite, just a rather uncommon type.”

”...”

Wen Yan pondered, now he understood.

It means that your definition of parasite and my definition are different.

I’m telling you, I’m not speaking nonsense; it really is a parasitic disease.

”Witchcraft was heavily suppressed two thousand years ago; eradicated, escaped when necessary.

Those somewhat famous at the time ended tragically.

Many related records were burned and erased.

Subsequent dynasties treated related things as taboos.

Anyone involved ended badly; those who practiced it were harshly punished.

Nowadays, poisonous insects have little relation to witchcraft.

At most, they’re distant relatives.

Otherwise, why do places where poisonous insects thrive, always seem far from the Central Plains?

If they were closer, even if unrelated to witchcraft, they would’ve been eradicated long ago.”

Wen Yan was in deep thought, recalling a case he saw when researching on the road earlier.

”I once read a widely circulated story, saying in regions where poisonous insects thrive.

There was a woman who fell in love with an outsider, they secretly promised themselves to each other, but the man said he needed to return home to inform his parents and prepare the wedding, and then he never returned.
