Medical Sage

”This... Causing trouble in the Forty-Nine City? Mr. Chen wouldn’t possibly be so bold, would he?” Xuu Ji was momentarily stunned, stammering his response. It was well-known that ever since the founding of the Republic, the Forty-Nine City had been of paramount importance to the great Huaxia.

Whether it was the unruly Forces of Evil that once held sway, the rebellious outlaws from the Ancient Martial Artist circles, the so-called Shamans who kept company with snakes and insects in the deep western mountains, or even the rumored half-human, half-ghost monsters—none had ever dared to cause a disturbance in the nation’s capital. After all, the Forty-Nine City was a symbol. To cause an uproar there would be a direct slap in the face to the authorities.

”Nothing is impossible.”

However, Old Master Xuu simply curled his lip and said indifferently, ”The world never lacks madmen, especially young ones like him. And he has a legitimate reason... Strictly speaking, this can only be considered an internal matter of the Old Chen Family. So, as long as it doesn’t get too out of hand or involve other people, even if they want to intervene, they can only give him a slap on the wrist. After all, that boy is my, Xuu Dongtian’s, lifesaver. They have to show me some face.”

”But even so, there are still many people waiting to kick the Chen Family while they’re down, hoping to see them fall from their current position. Those types have been eyeing it covetously for a long time... So if that kid does something irrational, he will inevitably be targeted by them,” the Old Master continued after a slight pause, his eyes narrowing.

”I...” Xuu Ji started, but the more he listened, the more confused he became. Since... wait a minute... Just then, something clicked, and he blurted out, ”I get it! Grandpa, you want Mr. Chen to return to the Capital City as soon as possible and resolve this within the three-month period. Because as long as he’s within that timeframe, no one can touch him!”

”Heh, you finally get it, kid.”

Old Master Xuu smiled with narrowed eyes, then shook his head and sighed. ”That boy grew up with his mother. Although not entirely without support, he’s still lacking something. Not having experienced the full love of a mother and father, he was bound to develop some extreme personality traits. Just like your father.”

Hearing this, Xuu Ji chuckled awkwardly. Although his dad did have a very peculiar temperament, he didn’t dare agree or say it out loud.

”What are you afraid of? I won’t snitch on him. Hahaha!”

Seeing this, Old Master Xuu laughed heartily and continued, ”So, it’s best if he handles this troublesome business within the deadline. Otherwise... I’m afraid this old bag of bones will have another headache.” The Old Master had few descendants, plus Chen Fei was his lifesaver. He also found that the boy’s way of speaking and his temperament suited his own tastes, so he had gradually grown fond of him.

If the situation truly escalated and became unmanageable, even causing trouble for the Forty-Nine City, then this old bag of bones would naturally have to step in. He couldn’t leave the boy to shoulder it all by himself, could he?

”Don’t worry, Grandpa. I think Mr. Chen is a very capable person. Even if this issue is a shock for him, he should still make the right choice! He won’t give us cause for concern,” Xuu Ji couldn’t help but say, trying to comfort his grandfather. In fact, if this conversation had taken place within another prominent family in the Capital City, one might wonder if his words were entirely sincere.

After all, with the Old Master holding an outsider in such high regard, wouldn’t that threaten his own ’position’?

However, Xuu Ji didn’t think that way at all. First, the Old Xu Family didn’t have many members to begin with; they had few collateral branches, let alone a direct lineage... so what was there to fight over? Second, he was very aware of what kind of person Chen Fei was—not only was his medical skill superb, but his Ancient Martial Arts cultivation was also terrifyingly powerful.

Therefore, there was no way Chen Fei would harbor such ambitions; it wasn’t even certain if he cared for so-called power and status. Xuu Ji’s worry was completely unnecessary.

In fact, Xuu Ji himself wasn’t very interested in such things. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have become a doctor.

”That kid is indeed extraordinary. Aside from the ones who come from ’those places,’ I’ve never in my life seen another person achieve so much at his age. I bet Old Chen is full of regret now. If the Chen Family had him, surpassing the Sun Family would only be a matter of time,” Old Master Xuu couldn’t help but sigh.

”Those places?” Xuu Ji was taken aback. Judging by his grandfather’s tone, there are other geniuses in this world as outstanding as Mr. Chen? That seems impossible.

”They are a few mysterious places. You don’t need to know about them for now.”

However, Old Master Xuu changed the subject. ”Alright, didn’t that kid ask you to help find someone? Any news? Once you get something, investigate it thoroughly. If your authority isn’t sufficient, go to the Central Guard Bureau and find your Uncle Zheng. Tell him it’s my request and have him help.”

”Uncle Zheng? Yes, I understand, Grandpa. Rest assured, I’ll put all my effort into this right away,” Xuu Ji said quickly, his eyes flashing with surprise.

This Uncle Zheng mentioned by the Old Master was no ordinary person; he was the current director of the Central Guard Bureau, a top-ranking military official. Moreover, he had once served under his grandfather’s command and fought in wars. Now, in the Forty-Nine City, he was a man of great power and high position. He was one of the ’great generals’ of the Old Xu Family’s faction, easily ranking in the top three among all the ”uncles.”

Yet now, just because Mr. Chen wanted to investigate someone, his grandfather was telling him to seek out Uncle Zheng. The level of importance he placed on the matter was clear as day.

”Xiaosan’er, do you think your grandpa is making a mountain out of a molehill? Troubling your Uncle Zheng over such a small matter?” Seeing the astonishment on his grandson’s face, the old master smiled faintly, his question filled with a deeper meaning.

”Well... Grandpa, it does seem like a bit much. I don’t understand the deeper meaning behind your actions,” Xuu Ji said honestly, scratching his head.

”You...” The old master shook his head helplessly. ”It’s actually very simple. This is the first time the kid has asked you for a favor, so it’s always best to handle it perfectly. Besides, didn’t you hear him? The person he wants you to find is the one who placed a bounty on his head with a foreign Assassin Organization. Do you think a boy like him will let that slide? So, it’s better to give Uncle Zheng a heads-up. It’s not clear if this falls under the Central Guard Bureau’s jurisdiction, but with the influence this old bag of bones has, I can still be shameless enough to get involved.”

”Grandpa, you mean... I understand now.” Xuu Ji was stunned for a long moment before his eyes lit up. He finally understood the deep meaning behind his grandfather’s actions.

Knowing Chen Fei’s personality, if someone dared to hire an assassin to kill him, he definitely wouldn’t let it go. When that time came, if people started dying mysteriously in the Forty-Nine City—especially someone with a significant identity—it would certainly alert powerful figures, and then things would get troublesome.

”I’m not too fond of these roundabout methods either, but we have no choice. You should think more about these things in your spare time, kid, lest you get schemed against and not even know why.” Seeing that his grandson had finally understood, the old man leaned back in his rattan chair, closing his eyes to enjoy the gentle night breeze.

The winds haven’t stirred in the Forty-Nine City for a long time. I wonder what this storm will bring? the old man mused to himself.

Meanwhile, in a seaside hotel in Limassol, Cyprus, Chen Fei was just about to go to sleep when an unexpected knock came at his door, making him pause. The voice belonged to none other than Shadow Immortal Dance.

”If you’re not asleep yet, could you come down to the beach with me?”

”The beach?” Chen Fei glanced with a strange expression at the clock on the wall. The hands pointed to two or three in the morning. This girl isn’t asleep yet, and she wants to go out now?

”Are you already asleep? Then I’ll... just go by myself.” At that moment, with his keen senses, Chen Fei heard Shadow Immortal Dance’s murmur from outside his door.

Chen Fei immediately got out of bed and was at the door in an instant, pulling it open.

When he opened the door, he saw Shadow Immortal Dance wearing a sleeveless T-shirt with a pair of relatively conservative denim shorts and sparkly beach sandals. Even in such a simple outfit, she had an indescribable visual impact. Her delicate features and graceful aura were incredibly alluring.

”I’m still awake. But... what’s wrong? Is something on your mind?” Chen Fei asked, noticing a flicker of evasion and turmoil in her clear, bright eyes. She clearly had something troubling her.

”Nothing’s wrong. I just wanted you to go for a walk with me. I’ve been by myself for the last few days,” Shadow Immortal Dance replied softly, avoiding his eyes and his question.

Hearing this, Chen Fei paused, a twinkle in his eye. He reached out, gently smoothed her slightly messy hair, and said, ”It’s not good to bottle things up. Don’t deny it; I’m not blind, and you’re making it really obvious. But... if you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine. Come on, I’ll go for a walk with you. I wonder what the beach in Limassol is like at night.”

Chen Fei pulled his hand back, casually lacing his fingers behind his neck. A faint smile touched his lips as he walked past the slightly dazed Shadow Immortal Dance.

”Was I really that obvious?” she murmured. Hearing his words and feeling him brush past, Shadow Immortal Dance’s fair, stunning frame trembled slightly as she bit her soft lip. She really was a terrible liar. She always got caught... It had been that way since she was a child.
