Medical Sage

Malignant arrhythmia, acute left heart failure, aortic dissection... These were all world-class cardiac and cardiovascular diseases. Not only are they difficult to treat, but their mortality rates are exceedingly high. It’s even more severe to have all three conditions present at the same time... No wonder Old Tuqi was so desperate as to treat a dead horse as if it were still alive and come to me. He had probably run out of options and just wanted to do everything humanly possible—to give it a try. After all, there couldn’t be any impressive practitioners of Chinese medicine in Italy, could there?

He then switched to English, asked the person on the other end to pass the phone to Old Tuqi, and said slowly, ”Alright, Mr. Tucci, I’m aware of the situation. Send me the address you just mentioned, and I’ll make my own way over.”

”That won’t do! Let me send someone to pick you up, my dear Chen. Rest assured, our Saint Laurent Group has people everywhere in Italy,” Tucci said jokingly, mistakenly thinking Chen Fei was reluctant to trouble them. After all, Chen Fei was here to treat their big boss’s wife. How could they be so neglectful as to make him come over by himself? That would be far too disrespectful.

”That’s not it... Alright, then. Have someone wait for me on xxx Street. I’ll be there in half an hour,” Chen Fei initially wanted to refuse, but he changed his mind.

”Alright, no problem! I’ll send them to xxx Street to wait right away!” Old Tuqi seemed to regain his composure, not asking where Chen Fei was and simply nodding in agreement.

”Then I’ll hang up now. See you shortly, Mr. Tucci.” Chen Fei nodded and ended the call.

”Sir Chen, are you leaving?” As soon as Chen Fei hung up, Old Brad, who had been standing by silently, suddenly spoke.

”Yes, I have some personal matters to attend to at the Saint George Ruarg Hospital in Florence. Could you arrange for someone to take me to xxx Street?” Chen Fei replied with a smile and a nod.

”Of course, it would be my honor.”

Old Brad immediately nodded and gestured to a servant behind him before speaking again with a smile, ”Sir Chen, if you need any help later on, feel free to call me directly. The Brad family still holds some influence here in Italy, and in most European countries for that matter. Few would dare to refuse us.”

”Then I’ll keep that in mind. If anything comes up, I’ll be sure to call you, Sir,” Chen Fei replied with a smile. Moments later, a discreetly luxurious top-brand sedan departed from the Brad family’s ancient castle and arrived at the famous xxx Street in Italy.

Chen Fei got out of the car at a rather secluded spot and contacted Tucci once more. Eventually, a top-tier, imposing Bentley sedan pulled up in front of him and whisked him away to Florence.

Florence is a city in central Italy, the capital of the Tuscany region, situated in a basin on the western slope of the middle Apennine Mountains. During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Florence was Europe’s most famous center of art, renowned across the continent for its fine arts, crafts, and textiles. Of course, it remains a world-renowned capital of art, the cultural heart of Italy, and the land where Italian opera was born and flourished! It is also home to the world’s most prestigious institution of higher learning for the arts—the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, famed the world over.

As for the Saint George Ruarg Hospital in Florence, it was a top-tier cardiovascular hospital renowned throughout Italy and even across much of Europe. It had gathered countless authoritative experts specializing in various types of cardiovascular diseases. Among them, Dr. George Anthony Lias was the most famous, considered the pride of the Italian medical community! He was also considered the frontrunner for the next Nobel Prize in a related field.

Several hours after leaving Rome, Chen Fei finally met Tucci, whom he hadn’t seen in a while, at the entrance of the Saint George Ruarg Hospital in Florence.

Accompanying Tucci were two others: a brown-haired old man with a goatee and another Caucasian doctor who carried himself with an air of arrogance. Chen Fei frowned, noticing that the latter’s gaze toward him seemed somewhat hostile.

”Oh, my dear Chen, my savior! It’s so good to see you again. Please, allow me to make an introduction. This gentleman is the big boss of our Saint Laurent Group and also an Earl within the Saint Laurent Family—Earl Pierce,” Tucci greeted Chen Fei with a warm hug before introducing the brown-haired elder with the goatee.

”Hello, Doctor Chen. I am Pierce of the Saint Laurent Family. It’s an honor to meet you, and I thank you for coming,” Pierce extended his hand toward Chen Fei.

”Hello, Earl Pierce. I think you should be thanking Mr. Tucci. After all, if it weren’t for him, I probably wouldn’t be here,” Chen Fei replied, smiling as he shook the offered hand.

”My dear Chen, I’m sure Earl Pierce won’t forget my contribution. However, regarding Miss Luo Sha’s illness, how confident are you?” Tucci, of course, caught the playful tone in Chen Fei’s voice. He first smiled and shook his head before his expression grew serious. He had been so preoccupied with getting Chen Fei here that he had forgotten to ask how confident he was about treating Miss Luo Sha. If the chances are less than thirty percent, then...

”Miss Luo Sha, is that the patient’s name? Don’t worry, Tucci, you should know me. I don’t fight battles I’m not sure I can win. If I weren’t confident, I wouldn’t be here now,” Chen Fei said with a slight smile. Although malignant arrhythmia, acute left heart failure, and aortic dissection were global challenges, to someone ’abnormal’ like him, they weren’t so daunting. There was a way to cure them.

”Really!?”

Upon hearing Chen Fei’s words, both Tucci and Earl Pierce’s faces lit up with astonished delight as they cried out. Chen Fei’s words implied he actually had a way... to cure her!

”Utter nonsense!”

At that moment, the man dressed as a physician, Doctor George, had a sudden, drastic change in expression. He jumped forward, pointing at Chen Fei as he demanded, ”Do all Easterners like you enjoy spouting such nonsense and making grandiose claims? ’Confident’? Who do you think you are? Eddie Stephen? Altinioni? Are you aware that even Nobel laureates have expressed their regret over Miss Luo Sha’s condition? Do you actually believe your medical skills surpass theirs?”

”Doctor George, what are you doing? Shut your mouth, right now!” Old Tucci’s face instantly paled, and he snapped coldly.

”Doctor George, I’m aware of your prejudice against traditional Chinese medicine, but you’d best understand the situation right now! If you cannot do something, don’t interfere with others who are attempting it. Otherwise, I will consider asking you to leave!” Even Pierce’s expression changed as he coldly rebuked the doctor.

”No, my respected Earl Pierce...” Doctor George suddenly panicked. He glared viciously at Chen Fei while sweating profusely, trying to explain himself.

But before he could finish, he was cut off. A mocking smile touched Chen Fei’s lips, and his dark, limpid eyes, clear as polished glass, held a hint of ridicule as he looked at the other man. ”Nobel laureates,” he said calmly, ”are you talking about yourself?”

”Of course... not me. They are two very good friends of mine. After carefully analyzing Miss Luo Sha’s condition, they both declared it too severe and that they were powerless to help. So you? Heh,” Doctor George’s face stiffened as if a raw nerve had been struck. He couldn’t help but glare at Chen Fei with an unfriendly expression, his laugh dripping with mockery.

In his view, this was just a scammer from some Eastern country! Even the most authoritative and professional Western medicine was powerless against Miss Luo Sha’s condition. How could that deceptive traditional Chinese medicine possibly be of any use? Besides, how old was this Eastern lad? He was probably about the same age as his own son. How much medical experience could he possibly have? How much could he know about medicine? This was an absolute farce! Sheer foolishness!

”Oh, so they’re your friends? Then I’m afraid you’re not much of a doctor yourself, nor do you understand what it means to heal and save people,” Chen Fei said, giving him a dismissive glance. He waved his hand as if shooing a fly, his expression one of extreme disdain. ”Mr. Tucci, you were right. People who only know how to talk should indeed keep their mouths shut.” Damn it, it’s not like you won a Nobel Prize, so what gives you the right to be so arrogant? How pathetic.

”You, you, you...” Instantly, Doctor George was so infuriated that his face turned beet-red. He couldn’t believe Chen Fei would dare to humiliate him like this, sarcastically pointing out that he hadn’t won a Nobel Prize! If this man hadn’t been invited by Earl Pierce, he would have already started shouting and had him thrown out of the hospital. He was George—George Anthony Lias! What was his status? His standing? How could some random person, some Eastern swindler, be allowed to insult him like this?

”If you’re not capable, then stop embarrassing yourself here.”

The next moment, however, Chen Fei gave him another cool glance and said, ”Perhaps in the eyes of others, you might pass for a mediocre so-called expert. But in my eyes, you’re worthless. You don’t even deserve to be called a competent doctor. Your mind is too narrow, and because of that, who knows how many innocent patients you’ll end up harming.”

”You, you, you... You’re spouting nonsense!”

Doctor George’s beet-red face turned an even uglier shade. Chen Fei’s accusations were too heavy. What did he mean his ’mind is too narrow’? What did he mean he would ’harm countless innocent patients’? Your so-called traditional Chinese medicine is nothing but a fraudulent trick, and you Easterners are just as deceptive... Am I wrong?

At this thought, he could no longer contain his indignation and rage. He burst out again, pointing at Chen Fei’s nose. ”Do you know how many major blood vessels are in the human heart? Do you realize that arrhythmia isn’t just a medical problem, but one that involves physics? Do you even understand the medical principles behind such a severe illness? Even Nobel laureates couldn’t find a solution for Miss Luo Sha! And you think you can? With your deceptive, so-called Chinese medicine? What a joke!”

He had thrown all caution to the wind, once again ignoring Earl Pierce’s warning.
