Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 236: Chapter 237: Clash in the Void

Runar and Wukong stood facing each other in the vast, empty void between universes. There was no ground beneath their feet, no stars shining overhead, and no air to carry sound. Only pure nothingness stretched out in every direction. Far in the distance, the glowing membrane of William’s universe appeared as nothing more than a tiny, faint point of light. At a carefully chosen safe distance, five half-step Multiversal observers hovered quietly, their full attention locked onto the two powerful beings.

Runar stood relaxed, his humanoid form radiating calm confidence. A small smile played on his lips. ”Ready when you are, old monkey. Don’t hold anything back.”

Wukong twirled his staff, Ruyi Jingu Bang, in one hand. His new Information Lifeform body glowed with a rich golden aura. ”Hah! Don’t worry about me, young friend. I just broke through to this level. Give me a real test. I want to see exactly where I stand.”

Runar chuckled softly. ”Alright. I won’t break you, but I won’t treat you like a beginner either. Let’s begin.”

The fight started in an instant.

Wukong exploded forward first. He activated his complete Rule — the Rule of Boundless Metamorphosis. This was the ultimate evolution of his famous 72 Earthly Transformations. No longer limited to simple shape-shifting, the rule now let him transform the very nature of his existence. He could adapt instantly to any attack, evolve his techniques on the fly, and change his fundamental properties at will. His staff had evolved along with it, becoming a perfect extension of his will. It could grow endlessly, multiply, change its density, and carry the full conceptual weight of metamorphosis.

In the blink of an eye, Wukong split into one hundred golden clones. Each clone wielded a massive version of the staff that stretched across impossible distances in the void. They attacked from every angle at once. The strikes did not break physical space — there was none here — but they sent powerful ripples of conceptual pressure spreading outward like invisible tsunamis.

Runar did not move at first. He simply observed. Then he stepped forward once. Using the Principle of Radiance, pure revelation washed outward. Every false clone was instantly exposed for what it was. Half of Wukong’s copies shattered into sparkling golden fragments of information before they could even land a hit.

”Not bad at all!” Wukong’s real body laughed loudly, his voice echoing through the conceptual layers of the void. ”But that was just a warm-up!”

He pulled all remaining clones back into himself and charged again. His staff expanded until it was the size of an entire world. It spun with metamorphic energy. Thanks to his rule, the staff kept changing mid-swing — first becoming a solid crushing force, then a piercing conceptual spear, then a hungry vortex that tried to absorb and rewrite Runar’s own information structure.

Runar met the enormous staff with one open palm. The collision created no explosion or sound, but the five distant observers felt a massive surge in information density. The void around the two fighters fluctuated wildly. Streams of pure data twisted and flowed like invisible storms. Brief flashes of possible alternate realities flickered into existence for a fraction of a moment before vanishing.

”You’ve grown incredibly strong,” Runar said calmly while pushing the staff back with gentle but unstoppable force. ”That Rule of Boundless Metamorphosis fits you perfectly. The 72 Transformations were always meant to reach something like this.”

Wukong grinned fiercely and kept pressing the attack. He transformed rapidly — becoming a colossal golden dragon crackling with lightning, then a raging storm of flaming blades, then a blur of pure speed that attacked from every direction at once. Each new form carried the full power of his rule. His staff struck from impossible angles, sometimes existing in several different states at the same time.

Runar countered with smooth, effortless movements. He used the Principle of Unity to temporarily bind all of Wukong’s changing forms together, making them predictable for a split second. Then he applied the Principle of Eternity, slowing the flow of time around Wukong’s fastest attacks. This gave Runar all the time he needed to respond perfectly. He stayed in control, almost playful, never using his full strength.

Even so, Wukong refused to back down. ”Hah! If you’re just playing around, then show me something more interesting!” He poured every bit of his power into the next series of strikes. The Rule of Boundless Metamorphosis reached its peak. His body and staff became one ever-changing weapon that seemed to defy all fixed laws. For a brief moment, he actually managed to push Runar back several conceptual steps through pure combat experience and relentless adaptation.

Runar’s eyes lit up with real respect. ”Very good. You truly earned that breakthrough.”

Now Runar increased his output slightly. He activated all four of his peak principles together. The void around them filled with radiant, non-physical light — the Principle of Radiance revealing every weakness and possibility. The Principle of Truth forced reality to align with what truly existed. The Principle of Unity connected everything in the area under his control, while the Principle of Eternity gave him absolute mastery over the flow of events.

His accumulated multiversal energy — the vast depth gained from merging forty-one universes — flowed out in controlled, gentle waves. The pressure was overwhelming yet precise. Every transformation Wukong attempted was instantly understood, analyzed, and gently neutralized before it could fully form.

The two Information Lifeforms exchanged hundreds of moves in what felt like both an instant and an eternity. Wukong attacked without pause, his staff flashing, his body shifting through thousands of forms. Runar responded with calm precision, sometimes using only a finger to redirect a world-shaking strike, sometimes creating temporary domains of perfect information order that trapped Wukong’s attacks inside.

”You’re really something else,” Wukong said during a brief pause, breathing heavily even in his information form. Sweat-like energy beads formed on his forehead. ”I can feel the gap clearly now. One rule against four peak principles... plus whatever insane reserves you’re carrying. This old monkey still has a long way to go.”

Runar smiled warmly. ”You fought excellently. Your rule has unlimited potential. Keep refining it with that fighting spirit of yours, and one day the gap between us will shrink dramatically.”

At the safe distance, the five half-step Multiversal observers were completely transfixed. Their eyes and senses recorded every single moment in perfect detail. They transmitted live audio and visual feeds back to William’s universe without stopping.

Kael, the undefeated half-step Multiversal genius from William’s side, felt his mind expanding at shocking speed. Every clash between Runar’s principles and Wukong’s rule poured fresh, profound insights directly into him. Concepts he had struggled with for centuries suddenly became much clearer. His cultivation base trembled with excitement. New pathways opened up in real time. He muttered to himself, ”Everything I believed was the absolute ceiling... it was only the starting line. This is what true Multiversal power looks like.”

The other four observers experienced their own breakthroughs. One from Willith’s side absorbed deep fragments of metamorphic understanding, causing her technique combinations to evolve and become more flexible. Another gained clearer insight into the nature of information existence, strengthening his foundation as an energy lifeform. Their comprehension advanced rapidly just from being near such a high-level exchange.

Back at the tournament venue, William had received the live feed immediately. He broadcast it across his entire universe through every available viewing construct. Willith did the same, sending the transmission straight to her own universe. Billions of beings from both sides stopped everything they were doing. Cultivators, gods, ordinary people, and powerful experts alike stared in stunned silence at the holographic displays.

At the main arena, the ongoing tournament matches were completely forgotten. The crowd sat in absolute awe.

”Two Multiversal beings fighting like this...”

”Their movements are so fast I can barely see anything after using a supreme artifact to slow doen the video.!”

”Look at how the void itself bends and fluctuates around them!”

Whispers spread like wildfire. Many younger cultivators felt their blood boil with inspiration. Elders nodded slowly, realizing how much deeper the path of cultivation truly went.

The five observers stayed focused. Their combined awareness protected them while they soaked up every principle expression and rule interaction. Kael, in particular, felt his future path becoming much clearer. ”If I can incorporate even a fraction of this...”

In the void, the intense exchange finally began to slow. Wukong lowered his staff and let out a hearty laugh that echoed through the emptiness. ”I admit defeat! But what a glorious defeat this was. Thank you, young friend. This old monkey learned more in this short fight than in the last thousand years of training.”

Runar nodded respectfully and let his aura fully settle. ”Anytime you want another spar, just say the word. Your growth today was impressive. That Rule of Boundless Metamorphosis will take you very far.”

The two powerful beings floated calmly side by side once more. Runar glanced toward the distant membrane. ”We should head back before William gets too anxious. He was already worried about us destroying something important.”

Wukong laughed again. ”That cosmic worrywart. He’s probably pacing back and forth right now.”

As they turned to leave, the five observers quickly retreated through their own portal. The battle in the void was over, but its effects had only just started. The open display of principles and rules would inspire countless cultivators across two universes. Many would spend years, decades, or even centuries analyzing the recorded fight.

The multiversal exchange had reached an entirely new level of significance. What began as a simple tournament had become something that would be remembered across the ages.
