High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2395: Chapter 616: Blades and Light Sabers

Jiang Yu was wearing a long white wool robe, her hair in a high ponytail, her black tresses tucked into a large hood, making her look clean and neat from a distance as if she had styled it into a unique bun.

Beside her stood a small red suitcase, with the plush bear Li Neng lying on the handle, gazing longingly through the wide wooden fence of the Greenhill Mansion at the beautiful Flower Sprites in the garden.

Su Man stood by the mansion gate, quietly accompanying Jiang Yu in the cold breeze across the creek.

Upon hearing footsteps, the two witches looked down the street.

Zheng Qing immediately noticed a large black butterfly perched on Jiang Yu’s robe at the shoulder blades, its wings slightly undulating in the sunlight and glimmering with brilliant colors, and its antennae were so clear that they could be seen even from afar.

Almost instantly, the warlock sensed the little fox in his arms itching to move.

He looked down, and the little fox, originally somewhat dazed, had widened its eyes, ears perked up, staring eagerly at the black butterfly, with its tiny pink paws opening and closing as if it had already leaped at it in another dimension.

”Happy New Year, Student Jiang Yu!” Su Shijun greeted the guest cheerfully, ”Is something the matter? I don’t see you carrying a hammer.”

Zheng Qing instinctively glanced at the small suitcase beside the witch—at the last Moon Dance, before Jiang Yu danced with him, she had swung a wooden hammer at him quite fiercely.

It had left him quite dazed at the time.

Just like now, her arrival left the boy a little bewildered.

Jiang Yu pursed her lips, her courtesy tinged with a hint of detachment, and responded stiffly, ”Happy New Year, Su Councilor. I have something to discuss with the leader of our hunting team. My old grandmother said I would have a smooth day, so I’m sorry, I didn’t bring a hammer today.”

Apologize for what, your hammer.

Zheng Qing grumbled internally, tightening his grip on Poseidon in his arms. The little creature had been eager to leap into someone else’s arms since just now.

”The dress is beautiful, Ground Brush’s February custom design?” Su Shijun naturally reached out and plucked a blue fox hair from Zheng Qing’s shoulder.

It was only then that Zheng Qing realized that the three of them were wearing similarly styled black robes today.

The stark contrast of black and white gave him an urge to streak in public.

”Thank you.”

Jiang Yu first expressed gratitude for the Big Fox’s compliment, her gaze shifting slightly with the fox hair that Su Shijun plucked away, her tone indifferent, ”I don’t study clothing much, my family buys them for me, I’d rather spend time on magic experiments.”

”At your stage, it’s indeed necessary to focus more on studies, like Dong Dong,” Su Shijun said with a tone of a senior praising a junior—which was appropriate given her status and rank—then she turned, slightly reproachful, to the head maid Su Man who was standing aside, ”Guests should be invited inside... By the way, those few taels of green tea sent home recently, go brew them fast.”

”My apologies,” the head maid meticulously apologized to Jiang Yu, turning and quietly leaving.

Zheng Qing quietly swallowed, trying to lighten his breathing, as if trying to turn into a stone at this moment. At times like this, he especially envied Luffy from Pirate King, who could carefree act the fool, unlike him, who due to being somewhat clever, could understand the witches’ conversations and hence feared.

But alas, the desire for peace wasn’t matched by the lack of wind.

”It’s not her fault.”

Watching the head maid leave, Jiang Yu naturally turned to Zheng Qing, implicitly indicating, ”I just didn’t get an invitation from the mansion owner, so I shouldn’t casually enter.”

Zheng Qing felt a tingle down the back of his neck.

He had been shrinking his neck like a quail, not uttering a word, so why was this inexplicable fire directed at him?

”Everyone’s so familiar, why adhere strictly to rules,” the warlock finally broke his silence, forced a dry laugh, and decided to cut straight to the point before entering, addressing the topic bothering him most, ”Is there something you need from me?”

”Yes.”

Jiang Yu nodded slightly, calmly saying, ”I arrived early on Buji Island, have nowhere to stay, so I’m looking to crash with the team leader for a bit... As the owner of Greenhill Mansion, you certainly have the authority to decide this small matter, right?”

Her gaze fixed intently on Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing suddenly had a strong desire to rewind to a few seconds ago. He could distinctly feel the pocket watch in his pocket pressing against him, almost hearing the ticking of the hands.

That a legitimate daughter of the Zhongshan Jiang Family could shamelessly say ’nowhere to stay’ was beyond him, so much so that his brain momentarily froze, rendering him incapable of response.

Fortunately or unfortunately, there was another witch nearby.

”So you admit he’s the master of Greenhill Mansion, right?” Su Shijun cut in with a smile, subtly emphasizing the words ’master.’

Jiang Yu pretended to glance up and down at the mansion, nonchalantly saying, ”Why not accept a free beautiful house?”

She accentuated the words ’free.’

Naturally, Zheng Qing’s mind flashed to that line from ”Ventriloquism” he memorized in high school—’And thus all the guests turned pale, sprang to their feet, drew up their arms, trembling in their limbs, almost ready to bolt’—his arms were yet to spring out from his sleeves, but they were trembling, limp and weak nonetheless.

I leap!

The little fox in his arms finally seized the opportunity, breaking free from the warlock’s grip, leaping into Jiang Yu’s arms, then stretching its little paws to grab the black butterfly on her shoulder.

A slight smile lifted Jiang Yu’s lips, as she naturally cuddled the little fox, scratching its ears.

Chirp chirp.

Poseidon chirped ingratiatingly twice, continuing to focus on catching the butterfly.

Aren’t you afraid of getting smacked by your mom, you idiot!

Even the clumsy bear on the suitcase knew to cover its head and play dead, yet you’re not even as good as a plush bear!

Zheng Qing silently mourned for the clueless little fox for a second, in which he imagined the four fox tails behind Su Shijun almost transformed into large hands, grabbing Poseidon’s fur and throwing her into the Greenhill Mansion’s confinement room.

But a second later, nothing happened.

The Upper House Member of the Moon Council showed great restraint.

She lightly patted her chest, feigning relief, ”I’m sorry, you don’t know how troublesome kids can be without having raised any...”

Swoosh!

A cold wind swirled past the street corner.

”Let’s go inside, go inside.” Zheng Qing whispered, playing the role of a tool, ”It’s terribly cold outside... We can talk inside, inside...”

The two witches gave him a synchronized sideways glance, their meaning quite clear.

Who are you referring to as ’we’?
