High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2363: Chapter 584: Grave Digging

”No problem!”

The young scholarship student said firmly, quickly and sincerely, ”Just in time, I’ve prepared some coursework related to talismans, and I can take this time to encourage Dong Dong to study ahead.”

He silently apologized to the Little Fox in his heart.

Su Shijun nodded with satisfaction, her hand slightly releasing his collar, then frowned, her gaze quickly sweeping over Zheng Qing’s left side, showing a trace of annoyance on her face: ”That’s settled then, I should go ahead... more and more people at the banquet, more and more annoying pests... remember not to go back too late, if Sister Man locks you out, I can’t help you!”

The boy carefully turned his head to follow the witch’s gaze, only to see Matthew’s uncle, Duke Milton of the Blood Race, holding a glass of wine and greeting people as he walked over.

”Oh, by the way, I have one last piece of simple advice for you.” Su Shijun’s slightly serious voice came to his ear.

Zheng Qing withdrew his gaze, curiously looking at the witch.

She looked at the boy seriously, insinuating: ”An ancient Maya priest once said, if you really want to share a secret with others, I mean a ’very important’ and ’very dangerous’ secret, you should first dig a grave... this grave may bury the person who leaks the secret, or the person who hears it, or even the person who wants to steal it, or even the person involved in the secret.

So, I want to remind you that some things become secrets precisely because they should not be known by many people. Knowing too much doesn’t do anyone any good... that’s all, see you later.”

Zheng Qing stood there stunned, not realizing when Su Shijun left him.

He just suddenly remembered a novel he read a long time ago called ”Three-Body Problem,” where the protagonist Luo Ji, before the final battle with the Three-Body World, dug a grave for himself before sharing the secret of the real universe.

He didn’t know if the author of that book knew about this saying among the Maya priests, but he knew the essence of the two was connected.

”If I were you, I’d first find a crowded place to hide... Duke Milton looks like he wants to drain your blood now.” A familiar voice suddenly came to his ear, startling Zheng Qing.

”Oh, shit!”

The young scholarship student cursed under his breath, quickly glancing at the gloomy Duke Milton not far away, then swept his eyes over the speaking Xin Fat Man, and said irritably: ”Do you have meat pads on your feet? Can’t you make some noise when you walk!”

The five hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team did not all attend the banquet. Xiao Xiao was injured and was lying in the school hospital, and Blue Bird, uninterested in such matters, was with him in the hospital.

Among the three who came to the banquet, Zheng Qing was a given, Dylan was caught by the people of the Moon Council as soon as he appeared, leaving Xin Fat Man, who loved to chat and eat, thriving in such venues.

”Meat pads? Isn’t that stuff found on cat paws?”

The Fat Wizard was holding a plate piled high with roasted meat, eating with oil all over his mouth: ”I remember you turned into a cat after transforming... you have a much higher chance of growing meat pads than I do.”

As Zheng Qing squeezed through the crowd with the Fat Wizard, he quietly grumbled, ”Compared to me, you’re more like a cat... always disappearing without a trace at the slightest sound, hiding in some corner spying... is that some kind of quirk of investigators?”

A row of sprites holding long trays flew slowly past them.

”It’s not a quirk, it’s called news sensitivity.” The Fat Wizard picked up a small cup of Green Bee from the tray, sipped a little, and sighed contentedly: ”Eating big chunks of meat and taking small sips of wine, that’s the ultimate enjoyment of life.”

”That’s your only pursuit in life.”

Zheng Qing pouted, watching the sprites slowly fly away with the trays, randomly thinking back to the Fat Wizard running around after the battle had ended, made him shiver and grit his teeth, asking, ”I still haven’t asked you, what were you doing back there, I told you it wasn’t me...”

”It has to be you... and it can only be you.”

Xin Fat Man picked up another piece of grilled steak, stuffed it into his mouth, and mumbled as he chewed, ”Think about it, what was the situation on the battlefield at the time... everyone was trapped in that blood-colored barrier, magic power draining away, a few Big Wizards getting beaten by that weird old man, and it was only you that used your Charm Gun to open its mind a few times, everyone could see that...”

”I mean, isn’t it possible it was a Crow experiment accident or that the Black Wizard collapsed on its own?” Zheng Qing thought back to his conversation with Su Shijun.

The Fat Wizard gave the boy a sidelong glance, even forgetting to chew the meat in his mouth.

”Are you really that stupid or pretending to be dumb?”

He gulped down the small cup of Green Bee, tossed the cup towards the airborne sprites, and wrapped his arm around the young scholarship student’s shoulders, suggesting he look around: ”See? There’s the Trident Sword! Danghag! Wizard Council! Moon Council! First University! Only when that Big Wizard died from the hunters of Wizard Council can everyone sit at the table and divide the rewards... if, as you said, Walter’s death was an accident, then at least half the people in this room wouldn’t have any credit to take.”

Zheng Qing listened in bewilderment, especially since his brain hadn’t caught up with why the people from Danghag and Moon Council would join the fun.

But it didn’t stop him from understanding the vague meaning the Fatty wanted to convey.

”As for why they chose you,” Fatty released his arm from the boy’s shoulder, sighed with some envy: ”Some burdens can only be carried by shoulders wide enough. Like this matter, if you hadn’t really opened Walter’s mind a few times, no matter how loud I shouted, who would believe it?”

”But you didn’t have to hold me up and run around the whole battlefield.” Zheng Qing grumbled.

”You don’t understand anything!”

Xin Fat Man somehow found an apple, bit down hard, and analyzed with an old-fashioned tone: ”Such achievements, if you don’t ’advertise’, it’ll be nibbled away bit by bit until nothing’s left! We have to spread it wide, let the forty or fifty wizards present all know... then those big shots won’t dare to swipe away your credit! Oh, speaking of credit, I heard the Trident Sword plans to give all the hunters who participated in the battle a Merlin Medal, did you hear anything from Su Councilor?”

Speaking of this matter, the Fat Wizard’s face lit up, forgetting to eat the meat.

”Merlin Medal?” Zheng Qing immediately thought of Nose Ring and Earring, who helped a lot on the battlefield, shaking his head: ”Didn’t hear anything... but you, how do you manage to gather all this information?”
