High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2352: Chapter 573: Cut Down and Clear Away

’Power at Great Wizard Level’ and ’True Great Wizard’ are not the same.

The latter is the backbone of the Mage Alliance. Each Great Wizard has a seat in the Alliance’s highest authority, the Great Wizard Conference, where they can participate in votes, discuss alliance policies, and decide the fate of ordinary wizards and even the course of time. Each of their names is well-known in the alliance.

The former merely possesses some traits of Great Wizards—such as a massive true form, formidable magic power, or extreme mastery of certain types of magic, etc.—capable of demonstrating battle abilities equivalent to Great Wizard level in a short period, making them ’Registered Wizards’, fundamentally different from true Great Wizards.

However, because they have touched the boundary between top registered wizards and Great Wizards or even reached over with a few fingers, many wizards privately call these individuals ’Quasi-Great Wizards’ or ’Pseudo-Great Wizards’.

The Alliance does not recognize this designation.

Yet it cannot deny the existence of such wizards.

Most commonly, within the Alliance, many clans with high-tier bloodlines, such as the Titan Giants, Thunder Giants, Behemoths, Changbai Mountain Chi qiu, Tanggula Ice Chi, Iron-eating Beasts, etc., their adult individuals are exceptionally large and inherently possess the most noticeable traits of Great Wizards; besides, the state of second-rank battle formation expansion was originally created referencing Great Wizard features.

Since they’re fake, naturally they can’t beat the real ones.

Just like now.

On the battlefield in the depths of Silent Forest.

The Absolution Hunting Team’s Bo Fu Clan true form conjured by expanding the second-rank battle formation was instantly shattered by a giant claw from the side.

The entity attacking this young hunting team was not the kind of berserk experimental subject they encountered during Winter Hunting whose magic power merely reached Great Wizard level, but rather an existence truly evolved into Great Wizard realm, transforming both soul and magic power.

Only such a true Great Wizard can perceive the mismatch between the magic power and soul of the battle formation’s true form, easily pinpointing the nodes of magic flow.

Bang! Bang!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The five young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team fell to the ground like cannonballs. Zheng Qing felt as if all his bones were shattered, but what’s worse was the backlash from the broken battle formation causing his every breath to feel like knives slicing, unable to muster even a trace of magic power.

Perhaps Xin Fat Man and Dylan had stronger physiques, able to maintain some state at this moment.

”Snore...”

”Cough, cough, cluck ha gro...um um...”

A strange sound like an elderly person’s throat clearing violently echoed in the open battleground, easily capturing everyone’s attention. As Zheng Qing struggled to prop himself up, he effortlessly saw the source of the bizarre noise, the owner of the giant claw.

Most of its body had already climbed out of the pyramid building, draped in a broad black robe, tattered yet abolishing half the battleground’s color as if nighttime had descended. Sunlight fell upon the robe, silently vanishing, as if a black hole lurked there, its end within the pyramid building.

Its face was hidden beneath a substantial hood, making discernment difficult, with only a slender sheep-horned chin and strands of gray-white hair exposed. Perhaps sensing hostile gazes from all directions, the hair gently lifted and wriggled, a grey halo rising above the strands, appearing from afar like tentacles of varying thickness.

It had many arms.

Zheng Qing couldn’t immediately count them, only seeing one hand holding a vast black law book, another resting on a pitch-black cane, and one slowly retracting—the claw that had ambushed the Absolution Hunting Team—while several arms propped against the pyramid exit and ground, like centipede legs, pulling its immense body bit by bit from inside the tower.

Inexplicably, Zheng Qing thought of the image of a larva breaking free of its cocoon.

”Bang!”

A golden Fu Bullet enveloping astonishing magic power carved a straight line through the air, striking precisely at the curled goatee, only scorching a few strands.

”Hiss!!”

Like a child poking a hornet’s nest with a stick, the goatee that had been patiently resting on the chin howled, transforming into a mass of fierce tentacles, frantically grasping in all directions.

”Yeah, quite terrifying.”

The captain of the Red Training Hunting Team, a tall witch, carried a heavy Charm Gun on her shoulder, tensely watching the towering black figure rising slowly, attempting to sound relaxed: ”Absolution folks, can you get up? If your legs aren’t weak...run quickly!”

Before finishing, she deftly turned the gun muzzle towards a descending black curtain.

”Bang! Bang!”

Two more golden lines sliced through the air, crossing each other like sharp scissors forcibly severing the black curtain, dozens of thick tentacles screamed and howled ing towards the ground, only to disappear once again into the expansive black robe.

”Bang! Bang! Bang!”

The captain of the Red Training Hunting Team didn’t hesitate to use expensive custom Fu Bullets, forming a thin defensive line between the massive silhouette and her teammates.

”Everyone!”

The witch’s voice was not loud, yet it clearly resonated across the battleground, calming and decisive: ”Retreat immediately, leave the battlefield. In the name of the First University Assistant Corps, due to unforeseen circumstances during this mission, you are permitted to leave on your own accord...”

”Hehehehe...”

The eerie laughter, as chilling as a nocturnal owl’s cry, interrupted the witch’s words. A pair of bony hands rose from the curtain-like robe, slowly removing the heavy hood, revealing a wrinkled, goat-like aged face.

This was the very head that appeared when the pyramid building floated above.

It blinked, originally silver-white eyes seeming to be filled with magma, instantly turning bright red; blinking again, the pale cheeks split into thin red slits; blinking a third time, those slits forcefully opened, revealing red eyeballs alike.

”Hehe,”

Its mouth hidden among the floating, swirling tentacles didn’t hinder its voice from spreading widely: ”Broken my lab, who, allowed you to leave?”

The gigantic black law book lifted, floating before it, a withered hand crawled over its shoulder, extending a slender forefinger to inscribe runes upon the turning book pages:

”Zai Shan Zai Zuo!”
