Chapter 2378: Chapter 599: Zheng Qing Didn’t Bite Off His Own Tongue

Zheng Qing could swear that this winter break, apart from that black wizard, he hadn’t gotten into any other trouble.

However, this confidence wavered when he saw the guests outside his door.

The few Trident Sword members visiting Zheng Qing were all familiar faces.

Leading them was the serious-looking Milly Wizard, a senior agent from the Investigation Bureau who had previously handled communication matters with the Mouse Clan, leaving a deep impression on several D&K employees. Behind him, on the left, was Andrew, a special agent from the Trident Sword’s Beta Town office. This short, stout wizard was the first Trident Sword member Zheng Qing ever met and was a classmate of Thomas from the Assistant Team. On the right was Li Yijin from the Rapid Response to Emergencies Department, the department Andrew used to belong to. Not long ago, during the siege of the black wizard Walter in Silent Forest, he was a member of the Trident Crisis Support Team.

Seeing this odd combination immediately confused Zheng Qing.

Through his interactions over this winter break, he gained some understanding of the Trident Sword. It appeared as a simple and violent organization but was, in fact, strictly managed internally.

Theoretically, wizards belonging to different departments should not carry out tasks together, to reduce the risk of internal operations.

”I heard that interdepartmental collaborations within the Trident Sword are only for major events. It seems the rumors are just rumors, ahahaha.” After exchanging pleasantries, Zheng Qing looked at the three individuals, particularly at Andrew, who he was relatively more familiar with—or at least, he thought was more approachable—and chuckled, probing.

Milly Wizard remained silent with a stern face; a younger Li Yijin curiously looked around, examining the layout of the living room, clearly the first time he’d set foot inside the Greenhill Mansion.

”How do you know we’re not here for a ’big event’?” Andrew winked, replying with a grin, ”But you got one thing right: rumors are just rumors... Originally, everyone guessed you were just a smokescreen pushed by Su Councilor, but seeing you live in Greenhill Mansion, it seems more real...”

Ahem!

Milly Wizard coughed heavily, interrupting Andrew’s somewhat whimsical words. Zheng Qing also glanced sideways, unsure where this seemingly reliable guy got the audacity to make up stories about someone in a great wizard’s home.

Ding.

A clear bell rang.

Several fox maids entered in single file, serving the guests with tea, fresh fruits, and pastries, then gracefully withdrew, making no sound throughout the process.

Once the last fox maid disappeared from the living room.

Milly Wizard, with a serious expression, looked at Zheng Qing and slightly bowed: ”I apologize for my colleague’s rudeness. Our visit today is to discuss two matters with you briefly...”

He raised his head, took out a document bag from his bosom, opened it, and handed Zheng Qing a form.

”Regarding the siege of the black wizard Walter, as decided after the Alliance’s appraisal, you will receive a Merlin Gold Medal as part of the finalized reward plan.”

Milly Wizard briefly explained the purpose of the form: ”According to the records of the Magic Association Investigation Bureau, you have already received a Merlin Brass Medal, with a summoning spell embedded in it that can summon a double-headed Minotaur. Considering your outstanding contribution this time, the Alliance offers you two reward options to choose from.

The first option allows you to embed a new spell on the Merlin Gold Medal, including but not limited to guardian, exorcism, summoning, and energy-shaping, with the spell intensity at the level of a middle-ranked great wizard;

The other option lets you combine the spells of the two Merlin medals, upgrading the summoning spell to a group summoning spell—a magic only a high-level wizard can cast. But I need to remind you, the spell can only be fixed on the Golden Merlin Medal, meaning, if you choose this option, your Merlin Brass Medal will become an honorary medal without any embedded spells.”

It only took Zheng Qing a few seconds to decide.

The summoning spell embedded in the original brass medal was just a registered wizard-level spell. Although Zheng Qing was not yet a formal registered wizard, most of the troubles he encountered far exceeded the registered wizard level, making that seemingly useful summoning spell not provide enough help on many occasions.

Like the recent siege of the black wizard in Silent Forest.

The Nose Ring and Earring only made a brief appearance in the initial skirmish before being forced off the battlefield. Earlier, in the winter hunting at school or the hunting competition, similar summoning techniques not personally performed by students were not allowed.

So the summoning spell on the brass medal became quite useless.

If as Milly Wizard said, Trident Sword could help Zheng Qing make this useless spell into something powerful and flavorful, it would naturally be wonderful.

”I choose the second option.”

Zheng Qing quickly made his choice, ticking the corresponding option on the form and filling in his information as instructed by Milly Wizard.

As the young scholarship student kept his head down, writing, Milly Wizard opened the law book on his lap, tapped it lightly, and a soft yellow halo of magic power silently spread out, forming an oval, eggshell-like translucent barrier, covering all four of them inside.

Yet, this light barrier only lasted for less than half a second before shattering into tiny stardust.

In the living room, the three in black robes all looked up, showing a hint of confusion and perplexity. Exchanging a glance with his two companions, Milly Wizard nodded, and the three of them simultaneously made a hand gesture, attempting to re-cast the spell.

This time, the barrier collapsed even before it could form.

Zheng Qing happened to finish the last stroke, looked up, and witnessed the scene.

”You all...”

He raised an eyebrow, his face showing undisguised displeasure—no one likes others casting strange magic randomly in their house—simultaneously, he placed a hand on the grey cloth bag at his waist, a hint of vigilance flashing in his eyes.

In this moment, thoughts flashed rapidly through his mind, even considering the possibility that these few people were imposters of Trident Sword agents, the ravens had come to trouble him again, and so forth.

”Sorry, the second matter is of great importance, so we need to take some safety precautions before discussing it.” Milly Wizard showed a trace of embarrassment in his eyes, once again lowering his head to apologize.

Zheng Qing hesitated, his hand still resting on the grey cloth bag, while the completed form lay pressed on the table, not yet returned to the other party.

An unsettling silence filled the living room for a moment.

Just then.

The sound of footsteps, thump, thump, came from outside the hall.

”Good morning, gentlemen.”

Su Shijun’s pleasant voice reached Zheng Qing’s ears, and looking back, the young scholarship student almost bit his tongue. He saw the owner of the Greenhill Mansion, somehow now dressed in loose, furry robes, with her hair down and barefoot, walking into the living room in a lazy, charming manner just waking from sleep—Zheng Qing swore he even saw a tiny furry tail tip peeking out from underneath the witch’s robe!

This Fox Spirit!
