High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2364: Chapter 585: A Plate of Grilled Meat

”As a journalist, the most important thing is to keep your eyes and ears open, know where information converges, understand the difference between rumors and truth, and how to use the fewest words to get the most out of others... Of course, this also requires talent.”

The fat wizard shamelessly praised himself, then pointed with his chin to a corner of the banquet: ”Look, over there, the teaching assistants and some novice lecturers at the school are chatting. You can’t hear any big wizard secrets from them, but you can hear lots of news that the internal institutions of the Alliance haven’t announced yet... because many of their classmates have already entered real power institutions like Trident Sword, Danghag, and work on the front line. They’re at the age where they love to complain about their bosses, gripe about their work, and show off news to their friends... The thing about the Merlin Medal was heard over there.”

Zheng Qing looked in the direction Xin pointed.

Sure enough, he saw many young wizards gathered in small groups, whispering about something. Among them were members of the Assistant Team like Thomas and Hilda, as well as Andrew from Trishula’s Beta Town office, and a few young lecturers like Zhang Huaigu who taught talisman class, Sima Yangyun who taught history, and the magical biology teacher Gan Ning.

When Zheng Qing looked over, Gan Ning was holding a plate of grilled meat, smiling and talking to two beautiful lecturers, making Teacher Zhang and Sima laugh heartily.

”The doctor got injured at such a bad time,” Zheng Qing sighed softly.

”Exactly!”

Rarely, Xin Fat Man seemed a bit mature, agreeing with the young student’s sigh, but his next words made Zheng Qing realize their conversation was not on the same wavelength: ”Your lecturer in magical biology, named Gan something...”

”Gan Ning.”

”Ah, yes, yes!” Xin nodded carelessly, then licked his lips: ”...Your Teacher Gan Ning’s grilled beef chunks are really delicious, so tender and springy, not chewy at all. The doctor missing out on this is truly his loss! A huge loss!”

Zheng Qing glanced sidelong at the fat wizard, feeling speechless.

”No wonder you’re still single.” He remembered the words of the blonde witch from the campus newspaper at the moonlight dance, and patted the fat wizard’s shoulder with regret: ”I believe if the doctor were here today, he wouldn’t care about the tenderness or tastiness of those grilled beef chunks.”

”They’re really delicious,” the fat wizard widened his eyes, grabbed the young student’s sleeve, and eagerly dragged him over: ”If you don’t believe me, try a few pieces yourself!”

Zheng Qing suspected this fat guy just hadn’t had enough and was using him as a shield!

When the two of them reached Gan Ning’s back, the lecturers were discussing topics related to illegal laboratories.

”...The school and Trident Sword have unified their investigation, identifying Walter as the mastermind behind the alias ’Professor.’ It organized a black wizard organization called ’Ravens’ to carry out depraved experiments in demon flesh modification.”

Gan Ning shared the news he had gathered with lightheartedness: ”It’s said that in the remains of the illegal laboratory, the School Works Committee found lots of evidence supporting this. This info was leaked by my classmates in Trident Sword and the School Works Committee. It’s definitely correct!”

”So, does that mean the Raven organization has been completely eradicated?” Teacher Zhang Huaigu showed a hint of surprise, and even her soft Wu dialect voice became clearer: ”Last year’s hunting competition and winter hunt, they caused huge trouble. I heard that Zhu Si, the Dream Interpretation teacher, was attacked by those Ravens!”

”Teacher Zhu Si is apparently the daughter of the Rat Immortal,” Sima Yangyun whispered to her best friend.

”Really? Does that mean the Ravens attacked a legendary wizard’s daughter? No wonder the school and Trident Sword were so eager to deal with this small organization that popped up suddenly.”

”With a top great wizard at the helm, the Ravens can’t be considered a small organization.”

”That top great wizard seems to be overrated. I know the name Walter. It was on an arrest warrant, but the bounty was only a little over a thousand jade coins. The Alliance classified him as a B-level black wizard, probably not stronger than a quasi-great wizard level... No one knows how he suddenly became a top great wizard.”

”Could he have been hiding his strength before? Like many adventure novel heroes who enjoy playing the pig to eat the tiger, pretending to be submissive normally but bursting with power when facing strong enemies...”

”Nonsense! You study history, and don’t you know reality is often straightforward and brutally honest! There’s not so much dramatic conflict... ”

”Having read too much history makes reality feel boring, so I fantasize about those dramatic conflicts... But speaking of boring, my hair has been feeling quite dry lately. Do you have any good remedies?”

The two witches’ conversation veered off-topic, leaving Zheng Qing, who had been eavesdropping for a while, feeling speechless, prompting him to cough softly twice.

”Zheng Qing? Has Su Councilor already left?” Zhang Huaigu immediately noticed her most satisfactory student and glanced gossipy around.

”Of course, he left, otherwise, would he have dared to talk to other witches?” Sima Yangyun mocked unceremoniously.

This left the young student feeling a bit embarrassed, causing him to cough unconsciously twice again.

”If you have lung issues, you should lie in the school hospital with your doctor, what’s the point of coughing here? ” Mister Sima seemed a bit irritable tonight.

”What’s with ’your doctor’? Isn’t Doctor Xiao one of your own?” Xin Fat Man, well-versed in dealing with these slightly older seniors, immediately snickered and joked, making Sima a little embarrassed in return.

”Eat, eat.”

Gan Ning, holding the plate full of small grilled meat pieces, inserted himself among the young wizards and laughed: ”The Absolution hunting team has made a big splash this time, achieving a Great Demon-level kill record, quite dazzling even among those large hunting teams... I heard you might get a Merlin Gold Medal for this!”

The last sentence was directed at Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing didn’t have much feeling about the bronze medal or gold medal, and hearing Gan Ning’s words, he secretly exhaled a breath of relief, finally remembering what he had wanted to ask earlier: ”Sorry, Teacher Gan, I just heard you say that Walter is the ’Professor’ of the Ravens? Is that true?”

As he spoke, he speared a piece of grilled meat and popped it into his mouth.

Indeed, it was tender, springy, and flavorful.

Unable to resist, he speared a second piece, while next to him, Xin Fat Man had already devoured over half a plate.

”Most likely true,” Gan Ning squinted his eyes and smiled slightly: ”But it’s not certain, since it’s all privately circulated news. Just like everyone is guessing how many talismans with legendary aura Professor Yao gave you...”

Before finishing his sentence, the boy in front let out a small scream.

Zheng Qing felt as if he’d bitten into a hard beef bone, almost chipping his tooth, so he gently sucked in cool air, reached into his mouth, and pulled out a gold ’Copper Bean.’

The bean shape seemed familiar.

But before he could react, the copper bean melted like snow in the sun between his fingers, turning into a liquid full of tendrils that silently and quickly seeped into his palm along his skin’s texture.

Zheng Qing finally remembered what this thing was.

His face immediately turned ashen.
