High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2359: Chapter 580: It Wasn’t Me

”Are you sure?”

In his mind, the Green Snake clinging to the Tree of Forbidden Curse finally opened its mismatched colored eyes, lazily flicking its tongue and warning, ”You do not yet possess the ability to control the Curse Power.”

”You can teach me.”

”Learning is a long and arduous process, there are no shortcuts. With your willpower, you might interfere with a babbling brook, but you absolutely can’t control a rushing river. If I open the floodgates, the best outcome for you is to be washed away by the roaring flood...meaning you’ll still have a chance to return...if worse, you drown in the river, even if that old man wants to fish you back, it might be difficult.”

The words of the Little Green Snake were filled with metaphors, sounding somewhat cryptic yet not hard to understand.

Boom!

In the distance, a dim flame snake crashed heavily on the ground, raising a black cloud of dust. It was Professor Simon from Starry Sky Academy; Zheng Qing still clearly remembered the immense and mighty Fire Dragon he revealed upon arriving at the battlefield.

But now, as Magic Power continuously drained, Professor Simon could no longer maintain his full True Form. Even so, he fought desperately alongside two other Big Wizards, shielding the young wizards.

”There’s no time left.”

Zheng Qing closed his eyes, gritted his teeth, and gave the Little Green Snake in his mind a final command, ”If you won’t act, then leave my consciousness... I need strength now.”

While speaking, he opened the empty ammo chamber, randomly took out an ordinary Fu Bullet from his Grey Cloth Bag, loaded it, then aimed at the massive shadow covering most of the battlefield and decisively fired — he didn’t expect the Fu Bullet to shatter a certain Blood Star atop the night sky, he just wanted to do something.

After firing the shot, he suddenly recalled the Talisman scroll rewarded by Professor Yao. Although that Talisman carried only a touch of Legendary Wizard’s aura, it was much stronger than the charms he drew himself at this moment.

While searching for the Talisman scroll, the young wizard didn’t forget to glance at the Fu Bullet he had just fired.

Unlike the Blood Symbol Bullet, this ordinary Fu Bullet flew much slower.

For a moment, Zheng Qing even doubted whether this leisurely climbing Fu Bullet could reach the Black Wizard’s face. Perhaps Lady Luck heard his prayer, as this ordinary Fu Bullet miraculously bypassed countless tentacles and Spell obstructions, directly hitting the Black Wizard’s forehead.

The forehead which Zheng Qing had shattered many times only to ’Revert to Origin’.

Crack.

Like a pebble thrown onto a giant rock.

This ordinary Fu Bullet didn’t even leave a trace on the Black Wizard’s forehead, flipping end over end, descending from the sky, seemingly fizzling out.

”I need strength - huh?!!”

Zheng Qing roared once more at the Little Green Snake in his mind, but before he finished speaking, he abruptly stopped, stunned to see the giant face suspended in midair slowly covered with cobweb-like cracks starting from the forehead.

If ordinary human-sized heads, such a distant distance, Zheng Qing wouldn’t be able to see so clearly; but Walter’s head was indeed too large, like a small mountain, those web-like cracks fell like a slow avalanche from a high mountain, unstoppable, hard to miss.

Crack-pop.

Crack-pop, crack-pop.

The faint and intermittent sound of cracking echoed particularly clearly on the noisy battlefield, Zheng Qing felt like he was witnessing a finely-crafted porcelain rapidly cracking in oven flames, the blood color shrouding the entire battlefield along with the night veil over half the battlefield receded swiftly at speeds visible to the naked eye, bland daylight fell again, illuminating the Black Wizard’s face, which was slowly crumbling to appear even paler.

”No... no... what happened... no!!!”

Walter halted the Spell gestures he was executing, gathered the hands floating toward his face from every direction, attempting to stop the crumbling fragments, to reconstruct his face, but when his hands reached his face, he was horrified to find them covered in web-like cracks also, crumbling slowly from the fingertips.

It’s difficult to describe the look of panic on dozens of red eyeballs, Zheng Qing couldn’t even ascertain whether this scene in dreams would be frightening or beautiful.

Almost simultaneously.

The experiment subjects on the battlefield involved in chaotic melee with the wizards - from Werewolves to Blue Demons to Berserkers to eerie beasts with large bat wings - suddenly stiffened in place, howling, turning into heaps of white ashes.

”You! All of you! Return it to me! Give it back to me!”

The Black Wizard screamed madly, tilting his head up, frantically howling, the sound filled with fear and despair, utterly devoid of the ferocity from a moment ago, dozens, hundreds of arms stretched out from the black robes resembling a night sky, reaching upward, seemingly trying to grasp at life-saving straws.

But there was nothing in the sky.

All hands clutched at air.

Thin sunlight fell through the clouds, illuminating the crisscrossed arms, orange-red flames burned from inside out, Zheng Qing felt like he was witnessing a scene of classical execution of an inferior Blood Servant.

”Is this Professor Yao’s Talisman paper?”

An old man picked up a Talisman that Zheng Qing had accidentally dropped on the ground, dusted it off, then handed it back to the young wizard, praising, ”Young man, well done!”

”Very good.” Another large hand patted his shoulder softly.

”Nice.” A third voice sounded Close at hand.

Zheng Qing turned his head blankly, saw the three Big Wizards smiling and nodding at him, then suddenly vanished before him, not yet reacting to what had just happened.

Phew.

He slowly exhaled a breath of white air.

”This wasn’t me,”

In his mind, the Little Green Snake coiled on the Tree of Forbidden Curse widened its eyes, showing a few strands of innocence and surprise, ”Honestly, it wasn’t me... I haven’t even decided whether to do you a favor.”

Zheng Qing gazed woodenly at the Charm Gun and Talisman paper in his hand, hesitated a moment, then replied haltingly:

”It wasn’t me either.”

Saying it once, he felt sure.

But as he looked around and saw the surrounding cheering figures, and the massive remains still smoking in the distance, he suddenly became unsure: ”This... definitely wasn’t me... had nothing to do with me... right?”

”You did it!”

A rumbling voice interrupted the young wizard’s self-muttering, a Blue Giant extended a large hand grabbing his waist, lifted him high, disregarding the crisscrossed wounds on its body, behaving like a joyful rhinoceros, galloping across the scorched earth, shouting, ”You did it! You did it! You did it!”
