High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2362: Chapter 583: Celebration

Edgar Allan Poe once said, don’t believe anything you hear, and only believe half of what you see.

Zheng Qing was once skeptical about this saying until a regular fu bullet in his magazine hit a certain Great Wizard, reducing him to oblivion with one shot. At that moment, he suddenly thought of this saying and understood what it meant to ’only believe half of what you see,’ just like the dead Black Wizard, the only credible thing was that he was dead.

The poet still had some subtlety.

At this moment, the young Wizard felt that sometimes, even believing half of what one personally witnessed seemed a bit too much.

”It really wasn’t me.”

That night, at a celebratory banquet hosted by the Trident Sword, Zheng Qing didn’t know for the how many times he repeated this sentence. He sincerely looked at the owner of Greenhill Mansion, invited to the event, with a somewhat helpless tone: ”I swear, really, at the time, my gun only had a standard fu bullet, definitely not exceeding the level of an ordinary registered wizard...”

”Ordinary registered wizards don’t have the ability to make a top-tier Great Wizard continuously open their mind multiple times.” Su Shijun hooked his arm with one hand and held a glass of Amber Light in the other, smiling as she spoke ambiguously to the young man.

Regarding this, Zheng Qing couldn’t deny it.

”That’s because...”

”That’s because the talisman Professor Yao rewarded you with was very useful, right? I heard Professor Simon even helped you retrieve one,” the witch interrupted the young cost student’s explanation quickly and nervously and then redirected the conversation: ”Indeed, I don’t believe a standard fu bullet could blow up a top-tier Great Wizard, but if you see it as the last straw that broke the camel’s back, it makes perfect sense.”

Even Zheng Qing occasionally had such thoughts in his mind.

Could it really have been his achievement?

Did he really take down a Great Wizard with just a charm gun?

But ultimately, he still had some self-awareness, sipping a small mouthful of amber-colored liquid, feeling his cheeks heat up: ”I can clearly feel that the fu bullet didn’t have any effect. Any effect... that’s the most basic understanding a gunman has of his fu bullets. So, Mr. Waterlei’s death really had nothing to do with me... Instead, I wonder if there was a mistake in those Ravens’ experiments, causing the experimenter’s body and soul to collapse together?”

”According to your speculation, shouldn’t we celebrate even more?”

The witch gently clinked her glass against the young man’s, delightedly concluded: ”In any case, whether it was the Ravens’ experiment failing or you breaking the camel’s back, the results don’t differ much... you’re the hero of this mission.”

When Zheng Qing heard this word, he had an itching feeling all over, as if stabbed by the sunlight, a sense of awkwardness.

He wished he could immediately crawl under the nearby bar table.

”Why...”

”Because everyone needs it.”

The witch nodded slightly to several Great Wizards coming to them with an elegant smile and firmly led the warlock in the opposite direction: ”Sorry, I don’t want to listen to the old folks of Danghag bicker, they seem to have some misunderstanding about my relationship with the school... Where were we? Oh yes, everyone needs this ’hero’.”

As she spoke, a sprite carrying a fruit platter wobbled past the two, and the witch kindly took the platter, handing it to the young man, then placed her and the young man’s wine glasses in the arms of the bewildered sprite.

”The school needs to tell the Alliance and the parents that the unsettling factors at the school have been cleared up.”

She speared a strawberry from the platter, first stuffing one into Zheng Qing’s mouth before spearing another for herself, briskly adding: ”The Alliance needs young warriors to demonstrate their ’vitality’ to the New World or someone else; the Trident Sword needs closure rate and performance; the Moon Council needs to prove that its Upper House Members aren’t lunatics...”

At this point, she playfully winked at Zheng Qing before continuing: ”... that’s right, I’m the lunatic. I need you to prove my choice wasn’t wrong, and you need a brilliant record, a Great Wizard-level Black Wizard is just right.”

With this series of ’needs’, Zheng Qing was dizzy, and he swallowed the strawberry without knowing whether it was sweet or sour.

”But you don’t need to think too complicated.” The witch speared another grape and stuffed it into the young man’s mouth: ”Many things in the world are originally the result of coincidence, contradiction, and compromise, not many whys and not many clear and simple cause-and-effect relationships.”

This time, Zheng Qing tasted that the grape was sweet, and there were no seeds.

Then he finally realized something unusual—that Su Shijun was acting too ’normal’ tonight, like a genuine girlfriend, with none of the usual sense of distance.

He cautiously glanced at the witch beside him.

”What’s the matter?” The Great Wizard was very sensitive to any gaze.

”Nothing,” the young man gave a dry laugh, cautiously swallowing the grape skin, and carefully chose his words: ”Just feel like you’re different than usual... this style... could it be Su Ya used a Compound Soup Remedy or something, ah, hahaha.”

”Su Ya doesn’t have the guts.” The witch gave him a blank look, succinctly explained: ”Since you’ve attended the Moonlight Ball with me, being a little more intimate can help prevent a lot of trouble for us.”

As she spoke, she released her arm from the young man’s, snapping her fingers.

Pa!

Several sprites in neat uniforms suddenly appeared in front of her, bowing respectfully, and the witch returned the fruit platter still filled with many fruits to the sprites.

”It’s only a few days before New Year’s Eve.”

She placed both hands on the warlock’s collar, carefully smoothing out the wrinkles, suddenly bringing up a completely unrelated topic to the evening banquet: ”Since your Alliance-assigned task ended early and you’re not planning to go home, then come to the mansion for the New Year. If there’s nothing else, you can move over tonight... I mean, there are plenty of empty rooms in the mansion... lately, there are many things happening in the laboratory, Dong Dong is not being watched, and has gone wild.”

Zheng Qing didn’t believe that the Little Fox dared to run wild under the Big Fox’s eyes.

Likewise, he also didn’t believe he had any other choice.

The witch’s smile was very gentle—even wearing those large red-framed glasses couldn’t diminish that charm—but Zheng Qing had reason to believe that if he dared to show any sign of refusal at this moment, the smiling beauty in front of him would mercilessly smack him into the deepest part of the floor, and none of the several Great Wizards and hundreds of registered wizards present would have any objections.
