High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2360: Chapter 581: The Most Elegant Virtue

”It’s done.”

When Zheng Qing’s first Fu Bullet hit the Black Wizard’s forehead.

High above the battlefield, far away.

In the clouds.

Sitting on the back of the grey Raven, Professor Montreya put away the feather pen and notepad in his hands, lowered his head, and took one last look at the irregular dark patch of intertwined black and red embedded in the dark green Silent Forest below, and ordered indifferently, ”The relevant data basically meets expectations, and the time is almost up... let’s end it here.”

”Won’t you observe for a while longer?”

Crow No.3 lay on the edge of the Raven’s wings, stretching its head, greedily feeling the majestic aura emanating from the top-tier Big Wizard in the dark patch, and murmured with a hint of intoxication in its eyes, ”This is our best creation, except for some flaws in appearance... Imagine, if everyone in the world could...”

He wisely ended his reverie here.

The professor raised his eyelids and glanced at him.

”Restraint is the most elegant virtue in the world.”

The professor said meaningfully, ”Just like Mr. Waterlei below, he has started to instinctively lose himself in this power that doesn’t belong to him... People who act on instinct often can’t distinguish whether what’s in front of them is bait or food... For most Black Wizards, pursuing power is their instinct, power is the best bait. Clearly, our Mr. Waterlei is a standard Black Wizard.”

”And a stupid Black Wizard lacking self-control,” Crow No.3 muttered, withdrawing its gaze and adding two descriptors to the professor’s evaluation, then supplementing with two metaphors: ”Like a peacock in a hurry to fan its tail feathers, or a young boy showing off toys to strangers.”

The latter metaphor was one the professor had used not long ago.

While speaking, he pulled out the notepad from his bosom, flipped a few pages, and found a piece of parchment hidden at the very bottom, with contract clauses written in Rune Text slightly blurry in the dim light, only the last sentence — the final interpretation of this contract belongs to the project leader — flashing with a strange red glow, appearing very clear.

He raised his head again, looking at the professor, as if he still wanted to say something.

But seeing that thin and hard back made him abandon the words that were already on his lips, obediently drawing out the feather pen clamped at the edge of the notepad, and hastily signed his opinion and name at the end of the contract — determine the experiment ended, according to rules, destroy related experiment bodies, Gan Ning.

The last stroke dropped.

The tip of the feather pen emitted an unobtrusive scorched stench, starting from the point where the tip touched, a faint scorched black like a snake, tracing back along the marks he left earlier, and in the blink of an eye, the whole piece of parchment was shrouded in fragments of sparks and bluish-white smoke.

Gan Ning blinked again, and the parchment on the notepad turned to ashes, swept away by a breeze, the ash disappeared instantly, leaving only intermittent scorched marks on the board, recording the traces of the contract’s former existence.

The young Raven cautiously turned his head to look outside the Raven’s back.

There was a hint of regret in his eyes.

In the Silent Forest, the dark patch of intertwined black and red that was so clear a moment ago had now faded significantly, and he seemed to be able to see the once-majestic Great Demon below the dark patch gradually disintegrating under the influence of rules.

”Hold onto the feathers, we should leave as well.” The professor’s tone was indifferent as he reminded, ”...everyone is waiting for us.”

The grey-white Big Crow’s wings lightly fluttered, and the figure suddenly disappeared on the spot.

Gan Ning hurriedly grabbed the thickest bunch of feathers in front of him, his vision blurred, and when he regained his senses, there was no more swirling mist around, only lush coniferous forest below, cold wind sweeping over the treetops, making a slight rustling sound, like a green ocean. He recalled that this place should belong to the north side of the Silent Forest, a distance of several hundred miles from the battlefield just now.

Caw!

The grey-white Raven let out a hoarse cry, folded its wings, gliding smoothly downward, and the giant trees it faced seemed to have been activated by magic, one by one, actively dodging the descending Raven, yet unexpectedly not disturbing the birds on the trees.

Gan Ning clearly saw a Skylark tilting its head grooming the feathers on its back, and the grey-white Raven’s broad wings nearly brushed past its little head as it descended, yet this usually alert and timid fellow surprisingly didn’t notice at all.

Whoosh!

A gentle breeze spiraled downward, brushing away some dry yellow grass fragments on the ground.

The grey-white Big Crow hovered at halfway up the tree, motionless. Professor Montreya still sat with his eyes closed on the Raven’s back, while Gan Ning tightened the Raven Mask on his face and leapt down.

Swipe!

Swipe! Swipe!

One after another, figures wearing Raven Masks leaped from the forest, landing around Gan Ning, under the grey-white Raven, standing respectfully with a hint of tension, waiting quietly.

The professor did not waste time; as soon as everyone arrived, he spoke directly.

”This experiment was very successful, thank you all for your hard work... Every task should be reviewed after completion, as it helps increase experience and reduce errors. So, do any of you have any constructive opinions regarding today’s task?”

He patiently waited for feedback from the students, as if lecturing in class.

For a long time.

No one spoke.

All the Ravens cautiously stared at the small patch of grass in front of them.

”Since no one has any opinions, then each of you will submit a thirty-thousand-word experiment report after the task ends, completing it before the start of the new semester as a part of your remaining winter break homework...”

The professor arranged smoothly, as if not noticing the bitter expressions below, and in the end, casually supplementing, ”As for the reports... once completed, you can directly hand them to Number Three. If there are any other reports or situations before the winter break, also report directly to Number Three. I have a pressing task and don’t want any other matters to disturb me.”

Most Ravens cast their gaze towards the few Ravens standing in the front row, their eyes full of scrutiny and speculation. Conversely, the Ravens at the center of the gazes — Number One, Number Two, and Number Three — appeared calmer than the others.

”Additionally!”

The professor’s tone did not change in the slightest, yet made everyone immediately retract those looks, returning to their previous respect: ”Before finishing, I’d like to share another thought with you all. Perhaps this idea may seem a bit excessive to you, but I think, at any time, preventing problems before they arise is never a bad term.”

Prevent problems before they arise.

It doesn’t sound like a good term.

Everyone instinctively perked up, but the professor, his tone as serene as before, seemed as if chatting casually with everyone, but the more serene his tone, the more nervous the Ravens familiar with him felt.
