High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2356: Chapter 577: Blood-Red Starry Sky

”Is it planning to commit suicide by slashing its wrists?”

Beyond the crisscrossing spell light, a mocking laugh from a hunting team could be heard, but no one took such words seriously. Any wizard with a little knowledge of black magic knew the close connection between blood and curses.

For a moment, everyone was on high alert, staring intently at the slashed wrists, the blood flowing from the intersecting wounds, and every subtle movement of Walter’s raised hand.

”In the long wait, the pain first disappears, and then reappears...”

Hundreds of crimson eyeballs opened and closed uncertainly, exuding a chilling glow. The black wizard’s gray-white long hair spread down, writhing like long snakes extending into the void. Under the night sky, which covered nearly half the battlefield, came the cold and sharp chant of the old man:

”... We open our eyes wide, wipe away the tears

And then see the truth...”

It was the strange ballad that once echoed in Silent Forest, now turned into a bizarre form of magic. Accompanied by this spell, the flowing blood scattered and transformed into clusters of blood beads of varying sizes. These blood beads seemed to be strung together by invisible threads, hanging in the night sky, shining with an unsettling red light.

”... Pain is the fruit of truth

Pain purifies the blood

And the blood shall illuminate all things...”

Boom!

Boom! Boom!

The intangible and heavy pressure from above descended like a maggot clinging to the bone, recklessly spreading through the weak spots of magic flow, causing several already heavily injured hunting teams to collapse in their second rank formation, including the Absolution Hunting Team.

This time, falling out of formation, Zheng Qing felt as if he was drowning.

The bright red color surged in from all directions, and the eerie breath rushed into his body through every pore, making him feel breathless.

He raised his head, eyes wide open, looking towards the sky.

Those clusters of blood beads, resembling stars in the night sky, even their scattered positions referenced the Star Map, where the young wizard easily recognized a few familiar constellations.

When the black wizard’s final incantation ended, the ’blood stars’ settled in their positions and burst into dazzling brilliance. In just an instant, the entire battlefield was enveloped in boundless blood red. At this moment, no further explanation was needed; everyone instantly understood what ’blood shall illuminate all things’ meant.

”I don’t know who came up with this twisted and bizarre idea of stringing blood beads as stars in the sky.”

The vice-president of Starry Sky Academy, that massive fire dragon, let out a low growl, interrupting the lingering chant of the black wizard:

”Allowing someone who lost the ability to gaze at the starry sky years ago to preside over this ritual... I admire your fearlessness... but don’t you understand that every leaf, every branch, every grain of soil in this forest is telling you ’unnatural’ creatures to shut up?!!”

”Hou Bi Xiao Xing, muttering in the dark!”

The immense spell power spread with the dragon’s roar, and in an instant, the blood-red starry sky seemed covered with a thin veil, immediately becoming blurred and illusory. The world regained transparency, and the dim sunlight fell through the veil’s gaps, making Zheng Qing feel a significant relief from the oppressive suffocation surrounding him.

It was as if he surfaced from the water in that fleeting moment.

But it was only for a moment.

Soon, the thin veil dissolved at a speed visible to the naked eye, and the fire dragon’s powerful magic, in this blood-drenched world, melted quickly like snow under the scorching sun.

The steadily silent Lady Margaret, Vice-President of Atlas, standing on the other side of the fire dragon, folded her snow-white wings and stepped forward, opening the white law book in her hands:

”When the Lambs opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about two measures.”

Her voice didn’t have the usual gentle softness of a nun, but was instead somewhat cold and indifferent, much like the rays of light emanating from her, akin to sunlight reflecting off the ice, prompting one to tighten their robes and hold their breath instinctively.

This blood-red world seemed to experience the same sensation.

As Lady Margaret spoke, the whole world fell silent for exactly the amount of time it takes the second hand to move two notches on the dial.

Taking advantage of this brief gap, the witch turned to the second page of the law book and continued to recite: ”The first angel blew the trumpet, and the sky was lit up like fire, a third of the sky and a third of the earth burned, and all the bloodlight was burned.”

The curled-up angelic shadow floated out from the witch’s law book, raising its head, spreading its wings, and lifted the horn in its hand to let out a mournful blow. Amid the blood-red sky, intense flames erupted abruptly, like patches of red wax. Within the firelight came Walter’s cries of agony, but this was not the end.

”The second angel blew the trumpet, hail mixed with fire and blood, a third of the sea was turned into blood...”

”The third angel blew the trumpet, with burning blood stars, like torches falling from the sky...”

”The fourth angel blew the trumpet, the sun, moon, and stars split, a third of the daylight without light, a third of the night without darkness...”

”The fifth angel blew the trumpet, I saw stars falling one after another from the sky to the ground...”

One after another, angelic shadows arose from Lady Margaret’s law book, blowing one melodious horn after another. As she described, the blood-red world created by the black wizard kept collapsing with the sound of the horns. Seawater painted a third of the night sky blue, another third of the night faded away, and the stars transformed from blood beads crowded in the remaining third of the night sky, falling down one after another.

It seemed like everything was about to end like this.

Then Zheng Qing heard the black wizard’s agonized cries gradually turn into a stifled and twisted laughter: ”Heh heh, heh heh, hahaha, hahahaha...”

In its laughter, the falling blood stars shattered one after another, and the sky suddenly began drizzling rain, as fine as ox hair but weighty as Mount Tai. The blood rain wandered aimlessly in the sky, staining each white angelic shadow red. The blood rain hit the ground, collapsing the second rank formations constructed by registered wizards one after another.

In Zheng Qing’s view, the tall figures belonging to wizards began to collapse one by one, like wood corroded by acid for a long time, already rotten inside. Even the true forms of the three big wizards inexplicably started to shrink in the widespread blood rain, becoming smaller.

The falling blood rain never truly touched the ground; instead, it gathered the stolen magic power, converging into one slender blood river after another, flowing back against the current, returning to the night sky, manifesting as shining blood-red stars.

In a short time, only the dark and enormous shadow remained on the battlefield.
