High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2385: Chapter 606: This Little Matter of Cleaning Up

Actually, as an irresponsible student, it was not only Zheng Qing who found himself increasingly pressed for time.

The most pressing matter at hand was the imminent Spring Festival.

As New Year’s Eve approached, the usually well-ordered Greenhill Mansion suddenly became busy. The fox maids flitted around the mansion like butterflies among blooming flowers in spring, cleaning or organizing, striving to make the vast mansion look brand new before the festival.

Magic is miraculous, but it isn’t omnipotent.

Especially in a place like Greenhill Mansion, which has many forbidden magic areas and magic barriers, many places require the maids to clean personally, rather than simply using cleaning magic to avoid disrupting the hidden, intricate, and sensitive detection magic scattered in every corner of the mansion.

Of course, perhaps this also demonstrates the style of old-school wizards—compared to ordinary wizards who prefer to solve everything with magic, these families who spend much energy on emblem studies and history tend to use some non-magical methods in minor daily details to highlight their uniqueness.

Mentioning differences.

Old-school wizards use iron-gray walls, heavy stone columns, towering staircases, and enclosed ancient castles to declare their classical and conservative nature to guests; whereas radical wizards prefer living in open and luxurious street estates, subtly expressing a resistance to the ”Wizard Behavior Management Method”.

And those in between, such as the younger generation of wizards from old-school wizard families, have to compromise between family traditions and personal beliefs, attempting to reconcile two different lifestyles.

Just like Greenhill Mansion.

It is both a mansion with the classical beauty and enclosed attitude of old-school wizards and a luxurious estate built on the street, possessing styles from both groups of wizards through its semi-enclosed fence and small street-side garden.

Accordingly, it also harbors the troubles of both wizard groups.

For instance, the vast and complex buildings in the mansion, resembling the dark and damp ancient castles in Vienna or London. Since most of the time the owner of Greenhill Mansion is in the laboratory at First University, many buildings in the mansion remain closed, with only a small functional area being used daily.

This implies there is an enormous amount of cleaning work to be done as the year-end approaches.

Furthermore, in the semi-open little garden, as winter ends and spring begins—this year’s beginning of spring has already passed over a week ago, and it’s only about twenty days until the insects awaken—more and more flower sprites and grass spirits are waking from their slumber in underground burrows and tree holes, following the scent of flowers to the outside of Greenhill Mansion to share in the breath of life.

This is not easy.

Because it is not the flowering season, the blooming flowers in the garden are the result of careful magical care by the fox maids, and every blossom already has a guardian, not needing more spirits.

”This is the seventh flower sprite you’ve brought back in the past few days.”

Zheng Qing looked helplessly at the sprite that sneaked into Greenhill Mansion hiding in Poseidon’s tail fur, barely concealing his distress: ”Su Ya told you about the concept of environmental carrying capacity this morning, right? I also can’t find any more flower pots for your friends...”

”Chirp!” The little fox hugged the warlock’s arm, swaying back and forth, eyes wide, looking pitiful.

Old fathers can’t stand such cute eyes.

”Would she be willing to live in a cactus? An unflowered cactus.”

Zheng Qing tentatively suggested his idea, unsurprisingly, the frail flower sprite showed a disdainful expression on her delicate little face and buried herself deep in the little fox’s tail fur, making him feel like throwing her out of the mansion in frustration.

But seeing the little fox’s eyes, he had to pinch his nose and concede: ”Alright, alright... I remember Zhang Ji Xin’s house has a small greenhouse at the Tianmen Mansion in town, we can ask him if he can spare a flower for your friend in the afternoon... though I suggest you feed her some honey first, lest she weakens and dies before we even find a new flower.”

”Chirp!” The little fox happily nibbled his finger.

Zheng Qing struggled to suppress the feeling of comfort that surged from the depths of his heart, yet still tried to keep a straight face: ”Don’t be too happy too soon; now, pick up your ’Basic Magic Potion Theory,’ take advantage of your fresh morning mind, and memorize the part about ’different uses for raw and cooked’ herbs... Otherwise, we won’t be going out in the afternoon.”

”Chirp...” Poseidon weakly replied, his eyes quickly dimming, and his ears drooped visibly.

While the little fox clashed with the textbook, Zheng Qing also picked up Su Shijun’s notecard and searched for those professional books related to Fu bullet making.

He had to admit, the professional books Su Shijun picked for Zheng Qing were far richer in content and systematically knowledgeable than the random books Zheng Qing himself sought at school, especially the ”Qingqiu Secret Method,” whose intricate banishment techniques for Fu bullets were admirable and breathtaking.

Who knows how long had passed.

A sudden flurry of footsteps interrupted Zheng Qing’s thoughts.

Pat-a-tap.

Su Ya dragged her fluffy tail as she hurried into the study, waving a duster.

”Help!”

She grabbed Zheng Qing’s clothes, her tone not a hint of a request, seemingly like a mansion steward, with a bit of ’doing serious business’ flaunt: ”There’s a window too high to reach on the second floor, everyone can’t reach it, and since you are the only male here, you need to come up with a solution!”

”Where’s Sister Su Man?” Zheng Qing glanced at the pocket watch.

The little fox had been reading for nearly two hours, and it indeed required a bit of activity. He glanced apologetically at the desk but found the little fox still reading seriously, without sneaking a nap, feeling deeply gratified.

”Sister Man went out, now I’m in charge of cleaning as the mansion steward!” Su Ya puffed out her flat chest, looking proud and lively.

Zheng Qing vaguely recalled Su Man only asked her to sweep the floors, lest she ran around indiscriminately, yet he didn’t know why she could end up cleaning windows. He suspected that other maids in the mansion probably wouldn’t encourage the little fox lady to do such strenuous things.

”Um, okay... Dong Dong, go upstairs and take a stroll too, have a break.”

Before Zheng Qing’s sentence was finished, the little fox that was lying diligently on the desk seemed to have unbridled frenzy, leaping off the desk at lightning speed and landing beside Su Ya.

The two little creatures were winking and gesticulating at each other, their tails tangled, completely ignoring the third person in the room.

”Lead the way.”

Zheng Qing scowled, angrily knocking Su Ya on the head.
