High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1838: Chapter 59: Landing

In this world, contradictions have always been complementary.

Spells are no exception.

There is ’Flowing Fire in July,’ and there is ’Frost in September’; there is ’Ge Zhitianxi,’ and there is ’Peach and tender’; ’The insects fly buzzingly, Sharing Sweet Dreams with You’ can make people drowsy, and ’Turning Over On The Pillow’ can make people feel energized. There is the cloistered ’Preparing The Window,’ and there is the spell to unlock ’Below the swing door, no defense at the window.’

Accordingly, there is a flying curse, and naturally, there is an anti-flying curse.

’While the feathers flutter, the tail flickers’ is such a spell.

When Old Verne’s withered fingers pressed on the pages of the Law book and recited this spell, Zheng Qing felt a sudden tightness in his heart and shouted to his companions, ’Scatter!’

He didn’t know the specific effect of this spell, but it did not affect the wizard’s intuition frantically warning his heart. However, the effects of words are ultimately slower than magic.

As a tawny stream of light rose from the Law book, enveloping the young wizards who were unable to evade; Zheng Qing suddenly felt relieved as the magic enveloping him dispersed instantaneously, and the wings buzzing behind him vanished without a trace.

In his peripheral vision, Zheng Qing saw the wings of mayfly on Xin Fat Man and Zhang Ji Xin, the magpie jay feathers on Jiang Yu, and the spotted dove wings on Li Meng all disappeared together.

After briefly hovering in mid-air for half a second, the young wizards went crashing toward the ground like stones, and in the blink of an eye, disaster threatened to unfold before him.

”Silence and Think!”

Xin Fat Man’s low roar was the first to resound; it was a calming incantation meant to bring calm, with an enormously potent additional effect for the Blue Giant of the Atonement Hunting Team—it allowed Xin to instantaneously transform into the Blue Giant state, although consuming significant physical energy compared to natural activation, he rarely used it ordinarily.

And now, this was one of those ’rarely’ critical moments.

Under a faint blue halo, the front-runner in the team rapidly expanded like an inflating balloon, transforming into a towering seven-to-eight-meter-high Blue Giant within moments. As his feet planted firmly on the ground, the already cramped campsite seemed even more restricted, prompting the elder wizard standing in front of the gray tent to unconsciously furrow his brow and smooth out the billowing robes with the airflow.

Yet, Fat Man was not the first to land.

At the moment the mayfly feathers disappeared, Zhang Ji Xin, positioned at the right of the team, let out a low roar, clasped his hands to his head, and curled himself up, crashing heavily downward like a meteor.

Ten meters of altitude held virtually no difficulty for the red-faced male wizard who’d practically trained muscle into brain matter. The instant he landed, this primary hunter from the Atonement Hunting Team swiveled on his heels and charged toward the elder wizard in front of the tent like a shell fired from a cannon.

At that same moment, the urgent voices of Xiao Xiao and Jiang Yu simultaneously echoed in Zheng Qing’s ears:

”The feathers of the avocet settle in front of the tent!”

”The fluttering ones are gathered and coming!”

When the young cost student regained awareness, only he and Li Meng were suspended in mid-air by the Blue Giant gripping their belts, each hand holding one of them.

A faint embodiment of wild goose wings appeared behind Xiao Xiao, flapping gently, taking him atop the tent; Jiang Yu’s originally pale yellow magpie jay feathers transformed into black and white pigeon wings, gracefully fluttering to the fence at the camp’s edge.

Thus, the entire hunting team transformed into a battle formation in a flash, with Zhang Ji Xin at the front, Jiang Yu securing the rear, Xiao Xiao occupying the vantage point, and Fat Man along with two others acting as support in the center, creating a strategy that could both attack and defend.

Of course, saying Zheng Qing was only tagging along isn’t entirely accurate.

As soon as Fat Man grabbed his belt, the young cost student’s hand was already pressed on the spell formula of ’Ge Zhitianxi’ he was most familiar with. However, the landing crisis vanished in a flash, leaving him no time to weave a large net between the tent top and the fence.

Considering that this Binding Spell can have utility in any situation, the warlock opted to keep it in hand, tense and ready, waiting for developments to unfold.

Bam!

Zhang Ji Xin, charging ahead like a projectile, was effortlessly caught by Old Verne’s withered hand, and with a spin and a toss, he heavily pressed the red-faced male wizard’s head into the soft mud in front of the tent.

”Landing event over.”

With just this one sentence, Old Verne halted the spell Zheng Qing was about to incant, almost causing him to choke.

The elder glanced at the young wizards, adding, ”You can now check your real-time scores, provide feedback if you have complaints, or enter the tent to rest and prepare for your next task.”

With that, he swung his broad sleeves and turned back to the tent.

Zhang Ji Xin propped himself up with his hands, struggled for a moment, then lifted his head from the mud, glaring angrily, his voice like a bell: ”This amounts to corporal punishment!”

He shouted at the back of the elder: ”I’m going to complain to the school! To the School Works Committee!”

Facing the accusation, the elder merely turned his back on the crowd, waving lazily.

Almost disdainful of explanation.

”So unfortunate.”

Xin Fat Man deflated like a punctured balloon back to normal size, hissing in pain, shaking his head repeatedly at the muddy-faced male wizard: ”It’s just because you’re exceptionally tough-skinned; if it had been Mr. Zha or the Doctor, their nose might have been rubbed flat by now.”

Zhang Ji Xin turned around, glaring angrily at Fat Man.

”Water of Canglang, cleanse and clarify!”

Jiang Yu summoned a clear spring with a gesture, assisting the hunters of the Atonement Hunting Team in purging muddy stains, while also reviving Li Meng, who predictably fainted early on.

”That old man is indeed a bit excessive.” Doctor Xiao also expressed a certain degree of dissatisfaction, but he simultaneously delicately voiced his speculation to the red-faced male wizard: ”...Yet, I think your complaint is unlikely to succeed.”

”Just because he’s old?”

Zhang Ji Xin unhappily wiped his wet hair: ”I didn’t provoke him... truly a disaster out of nowhere. He could have used a peach blossom to send me away, or lifted me up with a Binding Spell.”

”Not necessarily.”

Fat Man stroked his smooth chin, pondering: ”Maybe you didn’t provoke him, but your grandfather might have hit him, and he’s taking it out on you... I remember you mentioned your grandfather had a bad temper and used to hit quite a few people at school back in the day. Their ages should be similar, right?”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Ji Xin was stunned and suddenly felt this guess had a plausible chance.

And it only made him more frustrated.

”Mr. Zha, what do you think?” Fat Man turned to the always silent cost student.

Zheng Qing ignored these rambunctious young wizards, gripping his Trial Card, pondering his scores, and silently calculating his gains and losses in the ’Landing’ event.
