High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1824: Chapter 45: Mayfly’s Feather

”Have you all seen your starting scores?”

The teaching assistant in the middle of the room interrupted the young scholarship students’ peeking, and after getting a series of affirmative responses, he casually grabbed a student’s trial card and displayed it to all: ”Now, carefully touch the edges of your trial cards... you’ll feel a slight bumpy texture.”

Saying this, he tossed the card back to the warlock who caught it in a fluster.

The teaching assistant raised his voice and explained loudly, ”Then, repeatedly chant the guiding spell ’Sky’s Manifest Thoughts’, and you’ll capture a spell from those bumps, a piece of knowledge that the school has sealed in your trial cards using advanced alchemical skills... It’s little, but important!”

He noticed Zheng Qing looking around, and immediately glared hard, slightly intensifying his tone: ”You have half an hour to master this spell... It’s very important for your next task!”

Next task?

Zheng Qing caught this keyword, which also meant the trial had already begun? Learning this spell would earn ten points? The young scholarship student immediately perked up, carefully feeling the subtle bumps on the edge of the trial card.

Similarly, most of the people in the room instantly fell into a similar ’focused atmosphere’, although a few students were whispering and seemed to intend to use the ’power of unity’ right now.

Zheng Qing was one of them.

After the teaching assistant provided the method, it took only a short time for Zheng Qing to perceive a spell from those uneven touches—Ephemeral Wing, Apparel Exquisite.

Including incantations, spell formulae, recitation techniques, and key points to note when using it, all flooded from the copper card into the warlock’s mind.

Zheng Qing instinctively touched the feather pen in the grey cloth bag.

But then, he restrained his impulse, tilting his head slightly: ”The ephemera in this spell, is it the kind we know? Shedding skins multiple times, not drinking or eating as an adult, living briefly... that kind of aquatic little bug?”

Just like the ’Gē Zhitianxi’ from ’Gē’ is an ancient vine plant, and before using ’Gē Zhitianxi’, one needs sufficient understanding of the nature of ’Gē’.

Each spell involving specific magical plants or creatures must be well understood about the specific creature. Misunderstanding can lead to uncontrollable situations when chanting a spell. It could either greatly enhance a spell’s power or adversely cause the wizard to be backlashed by the spell.

Although the knowledge from the trial card already described in detail the form of ’ephemera’, which was identical to the little bug in Zheng Qing’s mind, suddenly practicing a spell that had never been learned alone and without experience, anyone would feel nervous and inevitably need to find some confidence from others.

It’s like checking answers after an exam; everyone knows it’s useless, but it’s hard to control the urge to verify.

Upon hearing Zheng Qing’s inquiry, Jiang Yu glanced at him with confusion, her slender eyebrows beautifully furrowed together: ”Ephemera? What ephemera?”

Zheng Qing felt a jolt in his heart: ”The ephemera in the spell? The one in ’Ephemeral Wing, Apparel Exquisite’.”

The witch’s eyes paused briefly, then she revealed a look of realization: ”The spell I perceived isn’t ’Ephemeral Wing’, it’s ’Oriole in Flight’...”

Li Meng immediately added, ”Oriole is the kind of yellow oriole bird that eats ephemera!”

Jiang Yu pinched the little witch’s shoulder, signaling her to be quiet, her face slightly flushed, pretending not to hear the little witch’s words just now, and calmly said, ”...I guess the spells in each person’s trial card aren’t exactly the same.”

”But by peeking through the cracks, we can probably deduce the next task in this trial.” Xiao Xiao, sitting on the other side of Jiang Yu, leaned forward into their conversation: ”The spell in my card is ’Swallow soars in flight’... notice what they all have in common?”

”They’re all flying spells.” Xin Fat Man, who had somehow unraveled his seatbelt, also came over, speaking solemnly: ”The spell I got is the same as Mr. Zha’s, ’Ephemeral Wing’.”

Li Meng hid in Jiang Yu’s lap, avoiding her gaze, made a funny face at Zheng Qing with silent chuckles, but at this moment, Zheng Qing didn’t have the time to care that Fat Man used the annoying term ’Mr. Zha’ again.

”Didn’t Mr. Hilda tell us to stay in our seats? Aren’t you afraid of being deducted points?” he rapidly complained to Fat Man, while looking around nervously.

Only to find no sight of the teaching assistant.

Fat Man’s indifferent voice came from the side: ”As the saying goes, what is not forbidden is allowed. If there’s no rule about leaving your seat resulting in point deduction, the risk of deduction is quite low... It’s all about our courage.”

His voice was slightly loud and very resonant in this small room. Seemingly influenced by him, and with the room currently very stable, many other students started looking around, leaving their seats to find their companions.

In no time, small circles formed.

Zhang Ji Xin also took the opportunity to squeeze over and added softly: ”My spell is ’Ephemeral Wing’... another flying spell.”

At this point, Fat Man winked at Zheng Qing and lowered his voice: ”There’s another saying, ’a crime not punished in crowds’.

Zheng Qing rolled his eyes, refraining from criticizing Fat Man’s little scheming, instead pursued: ”Where did Mr. Hilda go? Wasn’t he just in the room?”

”When you were flirting with our class monitor, the teaching assistant went out through that little door.” Xin Fat Man turned around, pointing to the small door at the end of the aisle, opposite the entrance.

Then he was immediately kicked in the backside by Li Meng, who nearly knocked him off balance.

Zheng Qing also clenched his fists, finding Fat Man quite deserving of a beating.

But Jiang Yu’s voice made him abandon the idea.

”All the spells we received are flying spells, which implies the next task is related to flight.” Calmly analyzing, as if she hadn’t heard words like ’flirting’, the witch said: ”...If anyone finds the spell in their hand too complex, I think it’s best to seize the moment while Mr. Hilda isn’t in the room to discuss with others.”

This truly is a very reliable suggestion.

Meanwhile, Xiao Xiao adjusted her glasses, fidgeting with the turtle shell around her, gazing thoughtfully: ”Is this room? No, this isn’t a room... it’s a cabin. We’re currently in the air. Remember the experience when we enrolled last year?”

Zheng Qing froze for a second, suddenly feeling the hairs on his back stand up.

”Are we going to be dropped from the sky by the school again?” His tone was slightly uncontrolled. Although the experience of last year’s special admission plane was a while ago, it still impressed him deeply.
