High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1809: Chapter 30: Inside the Pedestrian Street

Zheng Qing looked in the direction Zhu Si pointed and saw two familiar figures in the crowd.

Li Meng was hugging her arms, clutching a skewer of candied fruit, glaring at him angrily as if complaining that he disrupted their girls’ gathering.

Beside Li Meng, the little fox lady Su Ya from Greenhill Mansion was trying hard to twist her body and sneak out of the crowd. But with the crowd pressing around, she only managed to squeeze out half her body.

A large white and blue tail, like a flag, was draped around the little fox lady’s neck, wagging vigorously as if cheering for her.

Zheng Qing’s face instantly turned dark.

He rushed forward, putting a hand on Su Ya’s shoulder and grabbing that fluffy large tail. Both the little fox lady and Poseidon yelped in surprise, turning to see the angry young man.

Poseidon, though, showed no shame, displaying an innocent look and chattering away, completely unconcerned that his tail was held by Zheng Qing.

Although Su Ya was a maid, she came from a wealthy family and understood shame. Her fair face turned completely red, and her furry fox ears were pressed tightly against her hair, not moving at all.

”Didn’t you say you were taking him back to do homework?”

Zheng Qing pointed at the embarrassed Poseidon, whose mouth was smeared with oil, and sternly questioned the little fox lady, ”Is this the homework he’s supposed to do?”

Su Ya didn’t have her usual defiance when she saw Zheng Qing, drooping her tail and ears, and timidly replied in a small voice, ”Miss hasn’t gone back yet... we’re just playing for a little while... Li Meng said she’d help us with the homework, just for a little while...”

Truly beyond human!

Even asking someone for help with homework, she could speak so confidently!

But the most crucial part was the choice of helper.

”She’s helping you?”

Zheng Qing glanced at Li Meng, who was casually licking her candied fruit, almost bursting into laughter with anger: ”She never even finishes her own homework! And you expect her to help you do yours!”

He felt that Su Shijun leaving Su Ya to oversee Poseidon’s homework was a huge mistake.

Hearing the warlock’s comment, the little fox lady obviously didn’t quite believe it, looking at her good friend only to find Li Meng pouting, wanting to retort but lacking confidence—she knew that look well, seen every time the head maid Su Man made her practice etiquette.

”I didn’t know about this!”

Zhu Si immediately stepped forward to clear her name, ”I was just taking them shopping... Isn’t it back to school tomorrow? Li Meng’s Cinnabar and Yellow Paper aren’t ready yet.”

”And the feather pen.” The little witch, biting her candied fruit, suddenly chimed in, looking displeased at her companions: ”How could you say you didn’t know at a time like this? We’re in this together!”

”Not knowing is not knowing, and asking someone to help with homework isn’t a good thing.” Zhu Si argued very seriously.

Listening to Zhu Si and Li Meng bicker, Zheng Qing instinctively turned and glanced at the little witch who had stayed long in the Dreamland, feeling that this scene had a touch of dreamlike unreality and couldn’t help but poke the little witch’s cheek to confirm she was indeed alive now.

The fingertip felt soft and warm, indeed a living person.

Zhu Si’s face immediately turned red, and she turned her head. Zheng Qing realized his mistake but hadn’t time to speak before feeling a sharp pain in his calf.

”Pervert!”

Li Meng kicked Zheng Qing and then pointed at his nose, angrily: ”Aren’t you satisfied with my cousin? Even such a little girl you won’t spare!”

”I’m not small at all!”

”What nonsense are you saying!”

”Why do you think they call him Mr. Zha?”

Zhu Si, Zheng Qing, and Xin Fat Man spoke simultaneously, and they exchanged glances. At a loss, Zheng Qing didn’t know whether to refute Li Meng first or to beat Xin Fat Man up.

Just then, the crowd suddenly erupted, like water boiling over, instantly drowning out the bickering among the young wizards. Xin Fat Man slipped away into the crowd like a fish, vanishing without a trace, leaving Zheng Qing unable to find him even if he wanted to cause trouble.

Turning back to the center of the crowd, Zheng Qing realized why things suddenly got lively.

It turned out that someone had quietly untied the gray sack next to the bald-headed black wizard lying on the ground, and the creature originally stuffed inside had crawled out—another bald head.

Only this bald head was a bit smaller, probably just over 1.5 meters tall, with gray skin, and erratic bursts of magic power surrounded him. At a glance, it was clear he was a wizard with sub-racial blood. He cautiously looked around, his body hunched, and his eye movements seemed a bit shifty.

Seeing Zheng Qing, his eyes lit up and he opened his mouth as if wanting to say something. But a wad of cloth was stuffed in his mouth, preventing him from speaking for the moment.

Zheng Qing felt this gray-skinned guy looked familiar and was pondering when whispers from the onlookers reached his ears:

”That’s right, it’s him...”

”I’ve visited that shop, there’s no mistake.”

”Weren’t the first generation kin supposed to be powerful? How did this rat person end up captured by a black wizard?”

”He probably used some underhanded means...”

”Not necessarily, I heard from my third uncle’s neighbor that something went wrong with the rat immortal’s advancement, so the first generation rat people aren’t as strong as the first generation vampires...”

Zheng Qing’s eyes suddenly widened.

Rat people?

This gray-skinned guy in front of him is a rat person?

To his knowledge, there were only two rat people in the entire wizard world, and they both worked for D&K. If he was one of them, it meant this guy was either Dingdang Ears or Ding Dong Ear?

With this realization, Zheng Qing scrutinized him more carefully and noticed more details—like the thin, mouse-like tail behind the gray-skinned guy, only hairless; and the green vest he wore, which, when worn by a mouse, was small and exquisite but now looked several times too large, making it unfamiliar to Zheng Qing.

But how did he end up captured by a black wizard?

Zheng Qing was just about to step forward and yank the cloth from the rat person’s mouth when he felt a force at his waist, gentle yet firm, pulling him away from the rat person.

At the same time, the roar of the pedestrian street sheriff, Robert Lee, rang out again among the crowd: ”Everyone, move away from the crime scene! Don’t you have any sense? If anyone pushes in, don’t blame me for issuing fines without mercy!”

The murmuring and hubbub among the crowd grew louder, with some people laughing, some playing, and some conversing intensely. Even though it seemed even more chaotic, the order actually became a bit more orderly than before.

”Sheriff! Sheriff!”

”He’s an employee from our shop! We’re the victims!”

”Don’t push... let us through! We’re the victims! We need to file a report!”

Zheng Qing suddenly lifted his head, following the direction of the shouting in the crowd to carefully identify, and indeed saw several familiar figures, including Xiao Xiao, whom he and Fat Man had come to find.
