High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1818: Chapter 39: Before the Cat, Under the Moon

”Are you feeling uneasy?”

”No... Haha... Not at all!”

”Then why are you fidgeting around while sitting there?”

”...There’s a wooden splinter on the chair, it stuck me.”

”Why aren’t you fidgeting anymore?”

”I snapped off the splinter.” Nicholas replied dryly and couldn’t help but wiggle again, while stretching his arms and legs in a lazy posture, indicating that he was very relaxed and natural at the moment.

At the same time, to turn passive into active, he naturally surveyed the classroom situation—most students had left, making the classroom appear a bit empty. Except for a few witches surrounding Atlas at the podium, there were only Liu Fei Fei and Nicholas whispering intimately in another corner of the classroom.

Seeing those two, Nicholas’s gaze seemed to be stung, immediately retracting his eyes to focus on the maple desk in front of him, his mind quickly pondering the reason why the witch sought him.

Fortunately, Jiang Yu did not let him wait long.

She took a small box out of her handbag, placed it on the desk, and pushed it in front of Nicholas.

”During the afternoon when I went to the office building, I heard we were having a class meeting tonight, and Professor Li asked me to pass this to you.” The witch spoke softly, handing over a few more documents: ”Additionally, there are some proxy documents that I signed for you, this is the receipt... see if there’s any issue.”

Nicholas took the documents, glanced over them briefly, and realized what was inside the box.

It was a Transformation Potion.

Initially, he came into contact with this magic potion to suppress the headaches caused by the leakage of Curse Power. Before the Forbidden curse seed germinated and the Curse Power had hardly leaked, using this magic potion to transform effectively avoided the informational disturbance caused by the violent fluctuation of the thought-force field, allowing Nicholas a carefree period.

But as his shadow pierced through the Two-dimensional World and returned, under the deep gaze from the darkness and the starry sky, the Forbidden curse seed, nourished by an increasing amount of ’resources’, germinated, grew, and eventually exploded one after another, making the simple transformation spell unable to ensure Nicholas’s brain safety.

Luckily, he had the Blood Symbol Bullet to contain Curse Power beforehand, and later the little green snake, made from refining the Sea Demon King’s ’remains’ by his mentor, so the Warlock had no fear of any antics from the seed deep in his soul.

Thus, these Transformation Potions were almost superfluous for Nicholas now—like wearing a bulletproof vest on a battlefield erupting with cannon fires, providing little more than psychological comfort—the school nonetheless, unaware of this detail, continued the established practice of periodically issuing magic potions to him.

Nicholas privately speculated that unless he submitted an application, this ’benefit’ might be received all the way to graduation. For Atlas’s purist wizards or Alpha’s clan aristocratic wizards, this benefit might be dismissed. But to Nicholas, even a mosquito’s leg is meat, and there’s no reason to return them.

More importantly, he really enjoyed the feeling of transforming into a cat.

It made him feel comfortable.

”Anything wrong with your report?”

Nicholas carefully folded the signed reports from Jiang Yu and stuffed them into the grey cloth bag, finally gathering the courage to lift his head and look at the witch’s face—he realized he hadn’t seriously looked at her for quite a while.

Her eyes were still so bright, her hair so dark, her skin so fair. Her slightly pursed lips resembled a vermilion fruit in the snow, and her loose ceremonial robe couldn’t hide her gracefulness.

The young Warlock and witch silently looked at each other for a long time—or just a few seconds, even one second, but to Nicholas, the serious gaze made time seem extraordinarily slow and thus unusually long.

Crash!

A sound of something falling to the ground came from the podium, interrupting the stare between the two young people. Immediately followed were the surprised cries of a few witches, prompting Nicholas to withdraw his gaze and look towards the source of the noise.

It turned out Atlas was holding assignments intending to leave the classroom, but carelessly dropped them onto the ground.

Jiang Yu also glanced back, hesitating whether to go over and help.

”He could’ve just stored the assignments in the Storage Box, why carry them.” The young cost student casually laughed, whispering: ”Maybe it’s just to make those girls help with the work.”

Having this speculation, Jiang Yu refrained from going to help.

And Nicholas promptly pulled the topic back to the box filled with transformation magic potions in front of him.

”I wonder when this potion was brewed,”

The Warlock pulled out one potion from the box, held it up to the light to examine the clear liquid inside the Ampoule Bottle, muttering: ”Wonder if it’s expired...”

”Just drink one and find out,” the witch snorted.

This sounded like a good idea.

Nicholas hadn’t turned into a cat for a long while, and upon hearing the witch’s suggestion, a strong impulse arose within him. An impulse to climb a tree, run along the wall, and arch his back while yawning.

His left hand subconsciously tucked into his robe sleeve, calculating the time—today is July 18, the Geng Shen Month, Renxu Day, not the beginning of the month, not the optimal time for potion consumption, but over one semester’s practice, his mastery of the transformation spell far exceeded before, and even without consuming it at the month’s beginning, the transformation effect wouldn’t be compromised.

Pa.

While his left hand’s calculation was unfinished, his right thumb subconsciously exerted some strength, snapping open the Ampoule Bottle’s mouth.

He heard the witch’s soft exclamation beside him, and Nicholas lifted his head, seeing Jiang Yu’s astonished expression, immediately realizing his impulsive act—but only without the most impulsive there’s also more impulsive—upon some misaligned brain circuit, he stupidly raised the Ampoule Bottle in his hand: ”Would you like one too?”

The witch raised her eyebrows and gazed at him for a long time.

A time long enough for Nicholas’s misaligned brain circuit to find the correct docking way, making him realize he did a foolish thing.

”Do you have a lot of transformation potions?” the witch finally spoke.

No punching!

Nicholas let out a heavy sigh of relief from his heart, raised the box in front of him, and once again let himself loose: ”Lots, plenty... if not, I’ll apply for more... Old Yao said I have health insurance, can be fully reimbursed!”

”That’s rare, other cost students don’t seem to have such advanced health insurance.” The witch lifted a hand to tuck her hair behind her ear, casually extending her hand and took the Ampoule Bottle Nicholas offered, examining it from side to side:

”Hmm, is there an empty magic practice room next door?”

...

...

Moments later, the lights in the last few classrooms on the sixth floor of the main teaching building dimmed.

In the moonlight, one could vaguely see a black and a white cat climbing out of the classroom window, along the slender roof ridge of the main teaching building, running towards the distance one after the other.

Under the moonlight, night had deepened.
