High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1825: Chapter 46: Preparations

Even though I experienced major events like my own explosion and the Black Prison Battlefield over the past year, the helplessness and fear I felt falling from the plane when I first entered school still linger vividly, becoming material for many of Zheng Qing’s dreams.

The young wizard once suspected that the recurrence of his headaches after entering school was largely due to falling from the sky, leading to nightmares at night and subsequently causing mental exhaustion.

The warlock’s voice was a bit loud, and many people in the room heard it.

This caused the scene to fall into uncontrollable chaos immediately after a few seconds of silence—no one wanted to experience that kind of helpless and out-of-control state again.

”That’s very possible.”

Due to the chaos in the cabin, Xiao Xiao had to raise his voice slightly: ”But I guess the situation might be worse than last year... after all, they want us to fly spells now.”

This means there won’t be a beam of light waving on the ground, picking up the young wizards falling from the sky.

Zheng Qing had already started simulating in his mind how he would look and the colors as he smashed into a pulp—the ’mortality rate’ passed around by classmates before the trial further intensified this mindset.

”I already know the spell ’Canggeng Yu Fly’.”

Xin Fat Man suddenly interrupted Zheng Qing’s wild thoughts, quietly consulting those around him: ”What do you think about me using this spell in mid-air?”

The spells in his card are the same as Zheng Qing’s, both are ’Ephemeral Feathers, Clothes Elegant’. ’Canggeng Yu Fly’ is the spell in Jiang Yu’s trial card.

”I guess that’s why you didn’t get ’Canggeng Yu Fly’.”

Xiao Xiao interrupted Fat Man’s little cleverness: ”The school definitely doesn’t encourage us to cut corners during the trial... if you use ’Canggeng Yu Fly’ to land safely, you might not get deducted ten points, but you most likely won’t get ten points either.”

This sentence was a bit awkward, but not difficult to understand.

Fat Man showed a trace of reluctance on his face: ”I guess so... I guess the first test is our learning ability, and the second test is our ability to practice what we learned...”

”It’s not just learning and practice abilities.”

Xiao Xiao shook his head and pointed at the companions around him: ”There’s also the ability to unite and help each other... why does the school recommend everyone form different small teams? Why are our seats next to each other?”

”We must consider the situation after landing.” Jiang Yu added.

”Very wise.” Xiao Xiao nodded approvingly: ”This also means that apart from the flying spells in the trial card, we must hurry to copy other spells from the law book.”

Zhang Ji Xin immediately reminded: ”Additionally, it’s easy to get separated when falling from the sky. If we want to maintain a complete hunting team formation, we need to do something in the air.”

Zheng Qing glanced at the enthusiastic companions around him, then looked at Li Meng, who was eagerly shrinking in Jiang Yuhuai’s arms, and suddenly felt he had to say something to avoid ending up in a similar situation as Li Meng.

”How about using a Binding Spell to tie everyone together?”

He cleared his throat and proposed a solution that seemed to have some operational space but wasn’t very reliable: ”I can draw a few binding talismans on the spot... easy to use, doesn’t affect everyone maintaining the flying spell in mid-air.”

”Two questions.”

”There’s a problem.”

Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man both shook their heads in denial, then the two exchanged a glance, and Fat Man cheerfully gave the floor to the Doctor, while he bowed his head and started tentatively copying his flying spell from the law book.

”First, the flight height determines that even if we exit the cabin one after another, the distance between us will be over a hundred meters.” Xiao Xiao raised a finger, his expression serious: ”If anyone hesitates slightly...”

He glanced at Li Meng and Zheng Qing as he spoke and quickly added before they could get angry: ”If someone hesitates slightly, the distance between us will be even greater... ordinary vines summoned by a Binding Spell can hardly link two targets that far apart.”

”Secondly, different spells with the same attribute have magic field conflicts, and being too close might cause both spells to lose control.”

”Wait, the same what?” Zheng Qing didn’t catch the last part from the Watermelon Head boy: ”It sounds like some kind of magic theorem or something.”

Xiao Xiao was about to start explaining when Jiang Yu interrupted.

”It means that if two people using different flying spells are too close together, it can easily cause the spells to lose control.” The witch summarized succinctly: ”This is not considered a magic theorem... because this situation is limited to young wizards with slightly poor magic control, registered-level wizards won’t be affected.”

Zheng Qing finally understood: ”So, the school thinks our magic control ability is very poor.”

”That’s a fact.” The Doctor said calmly: ”The trial meeting was originally aimed at newly enrolled wizards... although we took a shortcut and delayed the trial by a year, this doesn’t affect our overall level compared to last year, and there hasn’t been a substantial improvement.”

Zheng Qing did not agree with this point. This time last year, when he saw a fishman just out of the water at Lin Zhong Lake, he was so scared that his hands and feet turned weak; and now, even if Satoguya sat lazily in front of him again, he felt he could remain composed, even take the time to nod off.

After all, he’s someone who’s been blown up once.

But now is not the time for debate.

Zheng Qing looked at Li Meng, who was daydreaming in Jiang Yuhuai’s arms, and then at Jiang Yu, gesturing with his hand: ”What about her? Flying alone?”

Just thinking about it was unsettling.

”Meng Meng’s learning ability is very strong.”

Jiang Yu seemed to be encouraging herself, but she didn’t look very confident in her own words—which was understandable, especially considering that classmate Li Meng once fainted in a curse course due to improper spell use, making what Jiang Yu said about ’strong learning ability’ more debatable.

”What spell did she get?”

”’Quail’s Benben’... a Companion Flight Spell. It allows a wizard who can’t fly independently to fly together with the help of another wizard.”

Hearing the word ’help’, Zheng Qing suddenly recalled Xin Fat Man’s earlier suggestion, a flash of inspiration in his mind, and he blurted out: ”Maybe the school doesn’t encourage us to cut corners, but they certainly don’t mind us learning a few more spells.”

Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, pondering slightly: ”For example?”

”For example, the Companion Flight Spell. Besides Li Meng, others should also try to master it.” With the Doctor’s encouragement, Zheng Qing felt his train of thought suddenly open up: ”And, for instance, we need to consider possible bird attacks in the air... and communication; it’s certainly harder to communicate during a flight than on the ground. If possible, we need to find a spell that allows us to communicate with each other in the air.”
