High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1816: Chapter 37: Three Matters at the Class Meeting

Upon hearing about Zhang Ji Xin’s tragic experience, all three listeners gasped collectively.

Zheng Qing couldn’t decide whether Zhang Ji Xin was more pitiable or his father, who, despite being over forty, was still getting beaten. Suddenly, his own experience lying in the school hospital didn’t seem as tragic.

But since Zhang Ji Xin got beaten, what about the others?

He instinctively turned to look at Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man.

”Don’t look at me, I didn’t get beaten.”

Xin Fat Man had somehow fished out a piece of dried meat, chewing on it vigorously as if trying to calm his nerves, causing his voice to sound a bit muffled, ”Besides you guys and the professors, no one knows I went to the Black Prison...”

”I actually wish I had gotten beaten.”

Xiao Xiao sighed heavily, patting the black notebook under his hand, a trace of melancholy appearing on his face, ”But my dad, on the contrary, rewarded me with a new notepad... I told him I already had one, he said it could be saved for his grandson.”

Zheng Qing didn’t know if he should laugh here out of respect.

He thought for a moment and decided to replace an impolite laugh with a question: ”Why did he reward you?”

Xiao Xiao glanced at him in surprise, ”You don’t know? Being a Recorder, being able to personally witness battles between Wizards and Demons, recording the fall of a Big Wizard, even a Legend, participating in the ascension of an Ancient One, is such a glorious thing...”

The smile gradually faded from Zheng Qing’s face, and he cautiously probed while observing the expressions of his other two companions, ”You saw the Legend fall... You should have been passed out like us, right?”

The other two companions seemed not to have heard his question.

Zhang Ji Xin frowned, as if still pondering whether to voice the things that troubled him; Xin Fat Man appeared focused on dealing with the dried meat in his hand, though his chewing sound was noticeably quieter.

Xiao Xiao squinted and glanced at the young scholarship student, patting the black notebook on the table, and softly replied, ”I don’t need to have my eyes open... It can record what should be recorded. But compared to writing it down myself, its entries lack comprehensive description and appear a bit dry... For example, in the Black Prison, the last few lines in the notebook only say ’On a certain year, month, day, at a certain time, a Legend fell at a certain place; a Legend ascended to Ancient One at a certain place’... If I were to write it myself, I could expand those two sentences into a narrative of several tens of thousands of words.”

This kid, still such a chatterbox.

This thought flashed through Zheng Qing’s mind, and he momentarily forgot to continue the conversation.

Fortunately, at that moment, Zhang Ji Xin also made up his mind, gesturing for his companions to come closer, and lowered his voice, ”I only heard this, don’t spread it around... Especially you, Fat Man, if I hear any bad rumors...”

”May the heavens strike me with thunder! All my snacks are yours! Tuan Tuan is also yours!” Fat Man quickly swallowed the meat in his mouth and raised his right hand, making three fierce vows.

Perhaps to reassure his companions or to show his determination, he even broke the feather pen in his hand and tossed it aside.

This clean and decisive attitude left Zhang Ji Xin speechless.

After a pause, he glanced around before continuing in a low voice, ”I only heard, um, during that previous war, someone from the school let those Dark Council guys into the Black Prison, causing the school’s battle plan to not be completed successfully... Vice Principal Shi seems to have been unable to advance because of this matter and missed the Great Wizard Conference.”

”I’ve heard that over the past few months, the school has been secretly searching for that traitor... I guess Vice Principal Shi is very upset right now, so he might have people from the Trident Sword help with the investigation.”

”What does this have to do with the Trident Sword?” Xin Fat Man asked quietly.

”The current director of the Trident Sword, Nud, is Vice Principal Shi’s student and was placed in that position by Vice Principal Shi himself.” Xiao Xiao answered succinctly.

Fat Man immediately had an epiphany.

BANG BANG BANG!!

The loud sound of the notepad hitting the lectern echoed throughout the classroom, causing several boys to instinctively close their mouths and huddle down, believing their ’spreading rumors and causing trouble’ had been exposed. However, they quickly realized it was Class President Tang Dun calling for the students to be quiet.

The four of them quietly tidied their desks and sat down.

Almost at the same time, the noise and clamor in the classroom gradually subsided, and everyone’s attention turned to where the noise had originated at the front of the classroom.

On the podium, the two monitors of Astronomy Class 08-1 stood on either side, expressions solemn.

”Quiet!”

Tang Dun, standing on the left, knocked on the lectern again, paused, and then continued, ”Today, this class meeting is not a regular meeting, so the professor will not be coming. Student Jiang Yu and I will be presiding...”

Upon hearing that no professor would be present, the few moments of solemnity that had accumulated in the classroom instantly dissipated, and a clearly felt atmosphere of seriousness leaked away.

”Which professor?” Xin Fat Man was the first to raise his hand, asking the question he was most concerned about, ”Is it Professor Yao, or Professor Yi of Divination Class, or Professor Li of Potion Making?”

Many in the class were concerned about this matter, and the words caused a temporary uproar.

Tang Dun took a few seconds to react, knocking heavily on the notepad in his hand, and shouted, ”Quiet!! Professor Yao is still our advisor. If you don’t want to lose points before the official start of the semester, you’d better behave!”

Pulling out this tiger skin, the commotion in the classroom finally subsided.

Seizing the opportunity, Jiang Yu, standing on the right side of the podium, stepped forward, looked around, and said crisply, ”Today’s class meeting has three items: First, to collect summer homework, students who haven’t handed it in can do so by eight o’clock tomorrow morning; second, make sure each person confirms their elective courses for this year by September 1 and submits their schedule; thirdly regarding tomorrow’s trial session, Tang Dun will explain the arrangements in detail to everyone.”

”As for the final exam results and the new school year scholarship spots, those will be personally announced by Professor Yao at the class meeting on the evening of August 31 after the trial session.”

Having said that, she gestured with her eyes to the warlock beside her.

Tang Dun didn’t give the crowd below time to chat and immediately continued, ”The trial session begins at 9 am tomorrow and continues until 9 pm on August 31, a total of seven full days; for fairness, the trial location is confidential, the trial content is confidential, the trial method is confidential...”

”If everything is confidential, what’s the point of telling us!” A student below immediately jeered.

Tang Dun’s face rarely showed a hint of awkwardness, but he maintained his usual calm demeanor and continued unfazed, ”The gathering point is at the First Hall. Everyone is allowed to bring a blank Law Book, feather pen, cinnabar, blank charm paper, and unformulated magic potions, but cannot bring pets, alchemical war puppets, amulets, vestment robes... Violating the relevant regulations will result in early elimination from the trial, with a 30% deduction from their midterm grades and a 20% deduction from their final grades.”

Once this punishment measure was announced, the entire class was in an uproar.
