High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1827: Chapter 48: Above the Clouds

”We were actually thrown from the airplane!”

”Are we going to hit the ground like pancakes?!”

”Ephemeral wings, gather garments!!”

”Damn it, why does my ephemeral wing have only one pair of wings?”

”Canggeng Yu Fly, ignite your feathers!”

”Chasing quail, strong magpie!”

”Success! I’ve flown! Wahaha! I’ve flown!”

”Wild goose is flying, orderly are its feathers!”

”Follow the previous plan, line up properly, don’t panic!”

”Soaring and flying!”

”Soaring and flying! Soaring and flying! Soaring and flying!... Is this spell missing half? Damn it, is the school trying to murder me, the genius?!”

”Help! It’s a disaster! My spell is out of control ahhhhhh!!”

”Like a cooing dove, fly swiftly to the sky!”

”Caw!!”

”... Eh? Why am I imitating bird calls? Does this spell have a side effect like this?”

”Pheasant flies, gorgeous are its feathers!”

”Wow, these feathers are so beautiful... I really want to pluck some to make a feather pen.”

Countless flying spells penetrated Zheng Qing’s ears, interspersed with many familiar complaints, jokes, and even curses.

Zheng Qing was stunned for a moment before coming to his senses—he originally thought that ”Swallow soars in flight, its sound everywhere” could only communicate between fixed individuals, but unexpectedly, this auxiliary spell formula worked like a giant radio, gathering all kinds of sounds into his ears—just like those voices he just heard were from classmates falling with him from the sky.

Instinctively looking around, the sight was one of magically fueled envelopes lighting up one after another: birds, insects, and even two bats.

The blood-red bat must be Matthew Karen, but it’s unclear who’s inside the black bat.

Yet regardless of birds, insects, or those two bats, at this moment, none felt the freedom of flight, but like Zheng Qing, were falling like meteors.

This was a choice made by everyone—to gather their wings, lower altitude, then choose a moment to slowly descend, both for order and to conserve magic power.

Thinking of this, the young student shook his head, while trying to dismiss the chaotic sounds drilling into his ears, and looked around, hoping to find traces of other teammates of the Absolution Hunting Team amid those streaks of light slipping through.

Finally, he realized all that effort wasn’t necessary.

”Hey, hey?”

”Can you hear? Did everyone hear?”

Xiao Xiao’s voice, testing the microphone, easily cut through the overlapping noise, sounding clearly beside Zheng Qing’s ear. With his voice, the other students’ uproar was quickly isolated, growing distant and barely audible.

The young student’s face revealed a hint of ease and surprise, but before he could speak, another ecstatic voice rang in his ears:

”Heard it! Heard it!”

”Eh? I can hear myself speaking... Wow! My voice is so loud!!”

”I mean, my voice is really nice!”

The young student instinctively tilted his head to one side, trying to dodge Li Meng’s joyful screams, while several low giggles and Jiang Yu’s quiet reprimand could also be heard:

”Li Meng, be quiet!”

”Hey, hey hey?” Xiao Xiao continued seemingly unaware of the brief ruckus caused by the little witch, still calmly testing the sound: ”Please respond if you can hear, reply immediately if you hear.”

”Li Meng reporting!” Still, Li Meng was the first to respond, through the vast sky, Zheng Qing seemed to see her solemnly raising her hand.

He couldn’t help but smile before answering, ”Zheng Qing reporting.”

Amid his reply, a meteor-like figure flashed past him, Zheng Qing glanced sideways, vaguely seeing a blur waving at him from a burning fireball, but couldn’t tell who it was.

In his ears, the responses of the hunters in the Absolution Hunting Team echoed:

”Jiang Yu reporting!”

”Elder reporting,” after Zhang Ji Xin answered, habitually criticizing: ”I say, can you all be serious? Even though this isn’t a Hunting Competition, for safety, it’s best if we use code names when communicating.”

”Chubby reporting... But I think you can’t make Mr. Zha call himself Mr. Zha.” Chubby laughed cheekily as usual in his response.

”Agreed to use code names,” Xiao Xiao did not dwell on such details but instead calmed the lead hunter and quickly switched to more pertinent matters:

”Everyone has successfully deployed the flying spell, right? Good... The magic power dispersed during the flying spell will form a relatively stable magic envelope outside us, the shape is related to the spell... This envelope will maintain our survival at high altitudes, so don’t randomly puncture it.”

”Who would do something that silly.” A low complaint from Chubby sounded by Zheng Qing’s ear.

But immediately, Li Meng, like a flared-up cat, shouted: ”What’s silly! That’s the magic exploration spirit! In the face of the unknown, aren’t we supposed to boldly explore...”

All the hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team fell into collective silence.

The little witch’s attitude was decidedly firm, but anyone could tell her confidence wasn’t quite there, and the longer she spoke, the further her voice seemed, even accompanied by faint hissing leakage sounds.

Moments later, Jiang Yu’s slightly tired voice sounded: ”Nothing’s wrong... She only poked a small hole in the envelope, it’s already patched up. Li Meng, behave yourself!”

”I’m very behaved.” Li Meng’s quiet mumble continued in Zheng Qing’s ear.

Xiao Xiao sighed heavily, raising his voice slightly: ”Alright, since both the flying and contact spells are OK, then please slightly control your descent speed, follow the direction guided by the contact spell, and begin gathering around me... Don’t worry about wasting magic power, gathered together is certainly stronger than being alone.”

”Can’t we gather after landing?” Chubby habitually questioned.

”Look downwards, everyone,” Xiao Xiao sped up slightly in his speech: ”The dark thing below us isn’t land but cloud layers. I reckon we have a high chance of passing through storm clouds... If lightning doesn’t strike us then, I’ll crush and eat the turtle shell I have.”

Zheng Qing immediately bowed his head and looked down.

Indeed, what he had thought was the ground, the patch of darkness, was becoming clearer with the continued descent. The turbulent cloud layers rolled beneath his feet like a roaring ocean.

”Huh?”

A light ”huh” from Jiang Yu reached his ears, Zheng Qing knew what surprised her.

In the fleeting moment of communication among the hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team, a classmate descending the fastest—the silhouette just brushed past Zheng Qing earlier—had already broken through the thick cloud layer, attempting to fly through it.

At the gap he created, several thin, silvery-white lightning bolts wrapped around silently.

Behind the gap, the cloud sea roiled easily concealing the scene. Like a stone falling into quicksand, like raindrops splashing into water, that classmate vanished in an instant.

Many people saw that scene.
