High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1833: Chapter 54: Raven and the Test Subjects

This is a vast hall.

The light is dim, and it is quiet.

In the immense hall, there are only four or five figures clad in black robes, wearing Raven Masks on their faces, standing around an experiment table in the center, busily conducting experiments.

Above them gathers the only light source in the hall, a few Alchemy Shadowless Lamps, encircling like flowers, casting a dense, clear white light.

In the white light, on the experiment table, lies a two-headed monster, unconscious, its neck, wrists, and ankles bound with Dragon Skin Belts. Its chest has been cut open, with two rows of tongs emerging from both sides of the table, gripping the edges of the incision, forcibly pulling them apart, exposing the slowly writhing innards of the creature.

The Wizards in Raven Masks remain silent, holding silver knives, scissors, tongs, hooks, needles, and other tools, meticulously carving runes on the creature’s innards. Their movements are swift and skilled, occasionally voicing a word or two, immediately prompting the others to understand and cooperate seamlessly.

Clang.

With the sound of a golden needle falling onto a tray, the Wizards collectively sigh in relief.

”Why hasn’t the Professor arrived yet?” A Wizard marked ’Zero Seven’ on the Raven Mask turns around, looking towards the depths of the hall, appearing somewhat anxious: ”It’s just the final step left... didn’t he mention yesterday that the experimental progress was slow?”

Perhaps due to the Raven Mask, the voice sounds somewhat hoarse, indistinguishable in gender.

Beside him, a Wizard marked ’Nineteen’ on the mask immediately comforts: ”Perhaps because it’s almost the start of the term, a meeting at the school delayed him... didn’t they say there’s a freshman trial meeting today?”

”Not freshmen, but second-year Veterans.” Another Wizard scoffs: ”The trials we participated in were indeed for freshmen. Those Level 08 guys, who’ve been in school for a year, learned who knows how much magic, only then participating in trials, don’t know if they’re just pretending with each other.”

”It’s a good thing the school is willing to change.” Mask ’Nineteen’ sighs lightly, seeming eager to say more, but swallows the words back.

Perhaps touched by this, the other Wizards around the experiment table suddenly fall into silence, making the entire hall especially quiet for a moment.

At this moment.

A point of red light suddenly illuminates the pitch-black end of the hall.

Woo, woo, woo!

Short, piercing buzzing and glaring red lights alternately flash, breaking the recent tranquility. The Wizards in front of the experiment table pause for a few seconds, then exclaim in panic:

”What happened?”

”Is there a malfunction somewhere?”

”No, a malfunction is a yellow light! A red light means an external enemy invasion! It means they have violently breached our alert Array, killing at least one Guard!”

”This is Buji Island, what enemy would dare to cause trouble here?”

”Didn’t the black tide stirred up by Sea demons at the end of last semester start from the depths of Silent Forest?”

”Could it be the school?”

This guess plunges the hall into a terrifying dead silence. Compared to this possibility, they would rather a more brutal and violent Demon intruded into the laboratory.

After a long time, urged by the flashing red light and piercing buzzing, the Wizard marked ’Zero Three’ finally speaks dryly: ”There have indeed been some bad rumors lately. If the school makes a move, then the Professor would surely have been tied up... we must retreat immediately.”

”Retreat?!”

Wizard Zero Seven erupts in fury, pointing at the experiment table, then gesturing around, harshly questioning: ”What about this Ogre? A Two-headed Ogre is already rare, especially one that’s survived two experiments by the Professor... and what about the other specimens?”

Having made the decision, being the highest-numbered Raven present, Zero Three wouldn’t be easily swayed by a companion.

”Only by living can we continue the experiments.”

He looks around, as if convincing others, but also convincing himself: ”Only by staying at the school can we have enough resources to complete these experiments... why did the Professor set up the lab in the depths of Silent Forest if not because such desolate places could accommodate our experiments?”

”Besides, I didn’t say to waste these specimens.” Saying this, Zero Three turns to Zero Seven, speaking earnestly: ”If you’re worried, take Eleven and Nineteen to go see for yourself, I’ll give you control over the Protect Legal Formation, if it’s the people from the school, try to hold them off... it won’t need to be for long.”

He then turns to another Wizard, who has remained silent throughout: ”Zero Five come with me, let’s tidy up this Ogre, I have a good place, maybe give the school a little surprise.”

Saying the last part, he seems to speak through gritted teeth.

”Don’t cause trouble.” Wizard Zero Five frowns slightly but does not fully reject this arrangement: ”The Professor brought us to experiment, not to cause trouble for the school.”

”I don’t want to cause trouble either, just want to clean up.”

Zero Three sighs slightly, not hiding his intentions: ”This Ogre, and some other specimens, were all secretly taken out from Black Prison... they all have Black Prison anchors on them, I just want to send them back first, in case the Professor sorts everything out, we can still capture them again... and if it’s school people, we must clean this place up as much as possible.”

Compared to the slightly hesitant Zero Five, the impulsive Zero Seven exhibits extraordinary decisiveness.

”Let’s do it.” He turns, pointing at Eleven and Nineteen: ”You two come with me to check up front, be careful not to reveal your identities.”

Then looks at Zero Three: ”I leave this to you guys.”

Without waiting for Zero Three’s response, he leaps, transforming into a beam of light, disappearing into the dark depths of the hall. The other two companions follow without a word, without hesitation.

Zero Three silently lowers his head, putting on a pair of Silkworm Skin gloves, quickly sewing up the Ogre’s wounds. Zero Five sighs slightly, also gloving up, and starts to help.

Faint noises of spell chanting and commotion come from afar at times; occasionally, the hall trembles, even the shadowless lamps above the experiment table shake a few times.

But the two Ravens in front of the experiment table remain calm throughout.

Until a small Green Bird, carrying a trail of firelight, breaks through the darkness, suddenly appearing in front of them, speaking with their familiar hoarse voice:

”It’s the school’s people!”

”They’re wearing Disguise Masks... unable to use curses on them.”

”We’ll leave from another direction! You have at most three minutes left!”

Upon hearing this, Zero Three’s face changes suddenly, he puts down the needle and thread, sighing deeply, and says to Zero Five: ”There’s no time, pour two doses of Magic Potion into its mouth, the rest, just leave it to fate.”
