High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1334: Chapter 81 Dreaming without Knowing I am a Guest

Hunting Team Training sounds like an exciting term, but in reality, the process is quite tedious.

Hunters need to recite spells they’ve practiced countless times in fixed scenarios and occasions at the fastest speed, while mustering ”complete courage” to face non-existent demons.

In addition, there are the cumbersome formation positioning during the hunt, lengthy pre-hunting tactical derivations, and lackluster encounter scenarios—such as Talismans accidentally being tainted and failing to activate, blood attracting another pack of covetous demons, spell mishaps injuring comrades, getting lost, twisting ankles, falling off cliffs, unexpected plant and animal allergies, and so on—relatively speaking, if the overall director of the training arranged some completely illogical and nonsensical sessions, it might make the hunters feel a bit more intrigued.

But these situations would never occur under the direction of Doctor Xiao.

He is even more rigid than the most old-fashioned masters at school, always keeping the Absolution’s training plans within a very narrow range, making it feel constraining.

”Only by dancing with shackles on can you have the greatest freedom in the hunting ground!”

This is the phrase he often has on his lips.

Normally, as the captain of the Absolution Hunting Team, Zheng Qing would respond outwardly and forcefully gear up to participate in the training, even if he felt it was boring.

But today, there was a slight hiccup.

Because yesterday, Saturday, he spent the whole day, besides doing homework at the library in the morning, working in Professor Montreya’s lab in the afternoon and having a night patrol task at Lin Zhong Lake in the evening.

Up until now, Zheng Qing had slept for less than four hours.

So, in today’s training, the warlock frequently made mistakes, and often lost his focus.

”Stop!”

After Zheng Qing missed another opportunity to deploy a healing Talisman, Xiao Xiao frowned and scolded: ”...just now, when Fat Xin accidentally rolled down the slope, it was his left leg that broke, not the right! If you wasted the Talisman paper on his right leg in the hunting ground, it would not only deplete our already tight supplies but also cause unnecessary negative effects on the entire hunting team... Remember, you are the captain of the team, basic mistakes will make the hunters think you are panicking!”

”I can tell him which leg is broken,” Fat Xin mumbled while sitting on a rock—his right leg was wrapped in a thick layer of bandages, forcing him to stretch it straight out like a stick: ”...if I knew it hurt.”

Implicitly implying, the doctor does not need to split hairs over details like ’left leg’ or ’right leg.’

”You were knocked unconscious!” Xiao Xiao sternly glanced at him and added her own narrative.

Fat Xin immediately lay back heavily on the grass, comfortably groaning: ”Oh... okay, okay. I passed out.”

Zheng Qing heaved a deep sigh.

”I need to rest for a while.”

He said weakly, while vigorously rubbing his face and shaking his head: ”I didn’t sleep enough yesterday, I’ve been unable to concentrate all day today...”

Zheng Qing’s colleague knew about his assistant duties in the lab and night patrols.

The doctor hesitated only for a few seconds before nodding curtly: ”Next time, such a situation must never occur during the hunting team training.”

”Okay, okay.”

The young sponsored student raised his hand, moved aside, and muttered: ”I just need to rest for a while...”

While speaking, he had already found a spacious and clean bench in the Lakefront Corridor pavilion, leaning against the sturdy column, and in just a short moment, began to snore loudly.

”It looks like he really is quite tired.” Fat Xin, listening to Zheng Qing’s snoring, shook his head: ”It’s rare to hear him snore while sleeping.”

”About the training that follows...”

”Didn’t we still have a team leader?” Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses and pointed at Zhang Ji Xin, ”Well, you will be in charge of the search and anti-demon training later... No problem, right?”

”Absolutely,” Zhang Ji Xin patted his solid chest and guaranteed.

...

...

Zheng Qing had a remarkably comfortable sleep in the pavilion, despite the simplicity of the place.

He felt as if he was lying on a twenty-layer velvet mattress, surrounded by the white noise of rain and a light breeze, sinking into the deepest sleep—no, not sleep, just slumber.

From falling asleep to finally opening his eyes, none of those annoying dreams that usually occurred appeared.

This made the boy feel particularly joyful after opening his eyes.

He stretched lazily and stood up.

Tonight, the moon was very big, and the moonlight was very bright.

But the heavy mist made the brightness lose its luster, beyond ten meters everything was just a blur. Zheng Qing pulled out the Law Book, cleared his throat, and recited a spell preserved in the book:

”The bird sings ying ying, seeking its companion’s voice.”

A crisp bird chirp seemed to come from a very distant place, and immediately after, a yellow light flashed in the distance as if it was on the other side of Lin Zhong Lake. Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows in surprise. He did not remember any training plans made by the Hunting Team that involved changing locations.

But that didn’t matter, he would find out the reason after finding everyone.

The warlock hopped on the spot twice, loosened up his body, and then walked along the fog-enshrouded lakefront corridor towards the direction where the yellow light had flashed. From time to time, the dense mist would carry one or two crisp bird chirps, guiding his direction.

However, the further he walked, the farther the bird chirps seemed to be from Zheng Qing, and the surrounding fog also became thicker and heavier.

Until at last, the fog was so dense that he could not see the path one meter ahead, and the bird chirps seemed to be hiding in a thick quilt, turning low, hoarse, and weak.

Zheng Qing cautiously stopped, holding the Law Book in his hands, and began visualizing his Charm Gun in his mind.

”Although a bit slow, the reaction is still correct.”

A familiar voice rang in his ear, as if standing right by his side: ”... A wizard must always have a thorough understanding of the environment. You must stay alert to any minor anomalies. This is your guarantee for progressing further on your path of magic.”

Zheng Qing’s fingers stiffened for a few seconds as he flipped through the Law Book; the Charm Gun he had visualized in his mind also shattered under the dramatic turmoil of his emotions, turning into a burst of cyan-golden light.

”Sir?” he exclaimed in surprise.

”It’s time for class,” Mr. Wu suddenly appeared beside the warlock, placing a hand on his shoulder and leading him deeper into the fog: ”...Just like our original plan, I will give you additional lessons on Sunday afternoon.”

Only then did Zheng Qing realize there was something odd about the time.

The Absolution Hunting Team’s training was scheduled for Sunday during the daytime, and the sun was still high when Zheng Qing fell asleep. It did not make sense for him to sleep until the moon was high in the sky without any of his teammates reminding him.

”So,”

The boy followed his teacher’s steps forward while glancing around and muttered: ”I am still in a dream right now, right...”
