High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1302: Chapter 49: 12 Weekends

Dormitory.

In the darkness.

Zheng Qing opened his eyes, staring dully at the rumpled canopy above his head, his eyes lifeless, his gaze seeming to fall on some distant place. After a while, his gaze slowly focused.

He woke from his dream with an image of a chest in his mind.

It resembled the chests in the grey cloth bag, only it was in a greyish blue color, appearing somewhat quaint and heavy.

Within the chest were two charm guns.

Zheng Qing knew that these two charm guns might not enable him to release a real Forbidden Curse, but they could allow him a taste of ”Forbidden Curse power”—provided, that is, he could manifest those guns out of his mind.

According to his teacher, this would require an exceptionally strong imagination to sketch out even the smallest details of the charm guns from nothingness.

Zheng Qing estimated that the difficulty of fully manifesting the charm guns was not much less than passing the registered wizard examination.

Perhaps, this was also a form of balance and order.

He thought sardonically, lifting his hand and holding it in front of his face.

The grey-blue chest in his mind quietly opened a crack, and magic power surged in his palm, silver threads weaving through the darkness, conjuring the illusion of a Colt Python.

However, the illusion appeared fragile, trembling in Zheng Qing’s hand as if it might shatter with a squeeze. Moreover, there was no trigger on the charm gun.

His teacher had said that he already had the trigger.

Zheng Qing pondered slightly and recalled the law book stuffed deep in the grey cloth bag—his teacher had said that the spells copied in that book were not Forbidden Curses but merely a ”guidance spell, which was the trigger for unleashing the Forbidden Curse.”

”Should I stuff the book into the gun barrel? How can I fit it in...”

The boy muttered, slightly tightening his grip, and the illusion of the Colt Python instantly shattered, turning into specks of silver light.

Just as he had expected.

The young wizard sighed deeply, turned over, and tossed aside the chest in his mind along with the law book in the grey cloth bag, quickly falling back into a deep sleep.

The world could wait, sleep was paramount.

...

...

The next day was the weekend of the twelfth week.

After waking up, another day full of energy!

While practicing in the Flying Garden in the morning, Zheng Qing practiced ”Unarmed” punches with his eyes closed, pondering over his itinerary for the day. Little Fox lay on a large blue stone under the tree, idly playing with its tail.

The good news was, after the temporary lesson last night, the teacher had not assigned any homework to Zheng Qing—a deeply thoughtful arrangement for a young wizard burdened with end-of-term academic tasks.

The bad news was that he was still very busy today and did not have time to play with Little Fox.

Besides writing homework for other subjects, Zheng Qing had to go to Professor Montreya’s laboratory to work in the afternoon, and he also had to participate in the night patrol of the School Works Committee in the evening.

Having taken three weeks off and missed work, Zheng Qing felt quite sheepish when he returned to Professor Montreya’s laboratory, as if every face that greeted him wore a teasing smile.

But it turned out to be just the misguided perception of a young wizard who was publicly funded.

Professor Montreya was indifferent to the temporary assistant’s three-week absence. He assigned tasks and supervised experiments as usual. Zheng Qing spent the afternoon trembling with nerves, only to find that his anxiety was a needless self-elevation.

Perhaps in the eyes of his mentor, he was a seed of ”Order,” possessing boundless possibilities. But to most professors at the school—specifically to Professor Montreya—Zheng Qing was merely a young wizard who came to his laboratory with a recommendation letter from other great wizards, to gain experience and have a medical check-up.

At most, this young wizard held the title of publicly funded student, had won a Copper Merlin Medal, and had snagged a spot in the Great Arcana in the annual ”Magic Wand” rankings.

But for a professor at the First University, these honorary titles were nothing more than a burden.

Nothing could capture their attention more than a sophisticated magic experiment.

Realizing this, Zheng Qing felt much more at ease when he participated in the night patrol at Lin Zhong Lake that evening—sure enough, the old school worker assigning tasks did not care about the young wizard’s repeated requests for leave.

These two encounters left Zheng Qing with a bit of a gap in his feelings.

The previous night, he had accompanied his mentor across the boundary of the old and new worlds, experiencing the power of the great wizards. The next night, he was with a group of young wizards who hadn’t yet reached the rank of registered wizards, listening to them chatter about the ”big events” happening at school without being able to share his own significant secrets.

Such was the reality of moving through the world incognito.

Due to this unshareable frustration, Zheng Qing mostly played the role of listener while his roommates discussed, focusing most of his attention on the task of replacing the Refreshing Charms for the sprites.

At the beginning of summer, the paper houses of the sprites were much hotter than in winter. The warming charms hanging on the walls of the paper houses had to be taken down and replaced with Cooling Charms that ventilated the air.

This was indeed a test of patience.

The young publicly funded student was busy with his task, listening with keen ears as Xin Fat Man lectured about the intricacies of the ”change of regime.” During this process, Fatty Cat Tuan Tuan kept walking around him, tail erect, occasionally brushing the Refreshing Charm in Zheng Qing’s hand with the tip of its tail, almost as if hanging a sign saying ”I want too” on its face.

Out of some kind of ”kindred spirit,” Zheng Qing took out two inferior Cooling Charms, folded them into paper stars, strung them with Red String, and hung them around the fat cat’s neck to finally send it away.

As for the other ”fat man” in the dormitory, Xin Fat Man was discussing the ”change of regime,” which referred to the change of leadership in the Student Union and Club Union. To be precise, it was about the current Lei Zhe and Augustus stepping down and the new Lei Zhe and Augustus taking office.

Over the weekend, the biggest news from the First University was the school’s handling of the destruction caused by Lei Zhe and Augustus last weekend, which had destroyed half a street.

Regarding the final handling of Lei Zhe and Augustus’s destruction of half a street, Xiao Xiao had almost guessed everything—the Sacred Will and the Blood Comrades evenly shared the rebuilding costs of the damaged area, including Lei Zhe and Augustus, about thirty students received a school warning as punishment, but the most severe one was only put on school probation because that student used an ”Illegal Spell” not authorized by the Mage Alliance.

Besides, Lei Zhe and Augustus also declared their resignation due to their negligence at the beginning of May.

Despite the anticipation, this matter still shook the entire university.

Everyone’s attention was drawn to those who would take over these titles, and almost everyone discussed this matter in the hallways and across the campus. The possibility of different candidates saw betting agencies offering attractive odds, which attracted a lot of discussion.

From a certain perspective, the school’s handling was nothing short of wise.

At the very least, including the Fishman Tribe’s disturbances, Zheng Qing’s attack on Sepulano, and Nicolas’s bloodletting, among other prior hot topics, were all overshadowed by this major event.

Chasing novelty while rejecting the old is the eternal choice in the world of public opinion.
