High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1319: Chapter 66: Sheep, Sheep, Sheep

In the thirteenth week, the temperature began to rise more rapidly, and this dry heat affected the atmosphere of the school. People were restless, and unease could be felt everywhere.

Since the school cafeteria stopped providing sheep’s milk, the number of people submitting ’sheep’s milk’ requests to the school had been growing by the day. Petition letters flew towards Professor Li Qihuang and the school medical office’s desks like snowflakes — even during Professor Li’s classes, paper cranes would occasionally fly into the classroom, circling tirelessly around his head.

Thus, the professor specially formulated a sheep’s milk substitute for those students who had been ’weaned.’

It was a dairy product with a hint of lemon yellow, and it tasted and felt almost exactly like real sheep’s milk.

Although after drinking the substitute, students would develop certain sheep characteristics — such as horns, hooves, or tails — this only piqued the interest of more people.

For students who had never used a transformation spell, this experience was novel and amusing. Many students who previously had no interest in drinking sheep’s milk also tried the substitute just to see what would sprout on their bodies.

Xiao Xiao grew a cluster of stiff goat whiskers, which made him look far more mature.

In short, apart from classrooms filled with students turning into ’sheep,’ the period before final exams lacked noteworthy events.

Most professors had ended new lessons and were focusing their energy on reviewing and reinforcing the entire academic year’s content. Consequently, the homework they assigned to students also increased manifold.

Especially for Tuesday’s Divination and Astronomy classes.

Professor Yi of Divination class required students to refine their ’daily’ line drawings into ’half-daily,’ effectively doubling the workload; meanwhile, Professor Emma of the Astronomy class assigned three ’exemplary’ Magic Script essays that everyone had to know well enough to recite from memory.

”First University is about to turn into a ’Sheep Sheep University’.”

After Wednesday afternoon’s Philosophy of Magic class, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but comment as he looked at the students with sheep horns walking around the classroom, ”Doesn’t anyone find this odd?”

”Look on the bright side, what’s normal in a magical world?” Xin Fat Man comforted, patting the young scholarship student on the shoulder: ”Just think of it as Halloween coming early this year.”

Zheng Qing looked at the fat man’s curved, thick horns on his forehead, the notebook and feather pen hanging from them, and had a bellyful of complaints he didn’t know where to begin.

He could only awkwardly change the subject.

”The ’Spring Guest Arrives’ market is open tonight. Don’t wander off after dinner; we need to get ready to go,” he urged.

”Oh, that damp little gathering?” the fat one touched his forehead’s horns, his face showing a hint of difficulty: ”I’m afraid I can’t today... I haven’t finished my Tuesday homework.”

”That’s not like you,” Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows.

”There’s always news, but end-term exams come only once,” the fat one mumbled, moving the notebook from his horn to behind his head to avoid the sight and mind — Nicholas’s presence instilled a mysterious sense of crisis in everyone in Astronomy Class 08-1. Nobody wanted to become a ’special’ figure in the school like him.

”If you’re bored, I can go with you,” Xiao Xiao suddenly interjected.

”You?” Before Zheng Qing could respond, the fat man revealed a malicious smile: ”What about Miss Sima? Didn’t you say she would take you?”

Zheng Qing pursed his lips and chose to remain silent.

Xiao Xiao twirled his goat whiskers and glanced at the fat man: ”The school has assigned Sima a task on short notice; she’s been too busy to have time recently.”

”What task?”

”Do you think I’d tell you?”

”You definitely don’t know!”

”Heh, foolish provocation... let’s assume I don’t know.”

”You actually don’t know and are just pretending!”

Listening to the childish and aggressive conversation between the two companions, Zheng Qing tugged at the corner of his mouth, unsure of what kind of expression to make. Just then, he felt someone tugging at his robe from behind.

Turning around, he saw it was Li Meng who had tugged on him.

But Zheng Qing knew that it was Jiang Yu standing behind Li Meng who was looking for him.

”Monitor is looking for you!” Li Meng proclaimed with a proud lift of her head. After delivering her message, she turned and sprinted back to Jiang Yu’s side, clasping her arm.

Zheng Qing noticed that the little witch had a fuzzy lamb’s tail hanging behind her, which made him chuckle to himself.

Jiang Yu was, as always, exuding an aura that made it difficult to joke around her.

She was one of the few students in the class who had never drunk a sheep milk substitute.

Zheng Qing had tried it, but not a single sheep hair had grown on him—he, the young government-paid student, was fully aware that it must be an exception to the ’Forbidden Curse’ at play, but such things were impossible to explain to his companions, so he glossed over it.

”The Spring Guest event is today, right?” Jiang Yu swept her long hair behind her ear and asked directly for confirmation.

Zheng Qing immediately felt two meaningful glances cast towards him.

Pretending not to notice, he nodded slightly and tried to speak in a calm and casual tone, ”Yes, today... it should start around eight o’clock in the evening.”

”Then we...” the witch hinted, looking at him.

Zheng Qing pulled out his pocket watch, feigned checking the time, then quickly relayed the plan he had already prepared, ”The Market is located at the Silent River Estuary on the seabed, a certain distance from the school. We need to leave at least half an hour early. I’ll be waiting for you with Poseidon at the school gates at quarter past seven.”

”What about the school’s curfew?”

”I’ve confirmed with the school. The invitation to Spring Guest is a special case and is not subject to curfew restrictions.”

Jiang Yu nodded in satisfaction and, arm in arm with Li Meng, strolled away.

From a distance, Zheng Qing could still hear Li Meng whining to her older cousin, ”... I’ve already finished my homework! You promised to take me riding dolphins... or turtles are fine too, I don’t mind! I’ve been practicing the Bubble Head Charm for days, it won’t be any trouble!”

”You haven’t memorized the sample essay assigned by Professor Emma... so you can’t go!”

Zheng Qing couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation.

Because Xin Fat Man was gripping his shoulders and forcibly twisting Zheng Qing to face him.

”Is this true?” Fat Man’s face was full of gossip excitement, his voice somewhat twisted, ”You really managed to fix things up with Jiang Da Headmaster? Can you do me a favor and get Li Meng out... Jiang Yu watches her too closely!”

”I think you’re looking for trouble,” Zheng Qing’s face turned red as he strained to pry Xin’s hands off his shoulders, replying irritably, ”She’s just a child!”

”A child with a tail!” Fat Man said dreamily.

”Yikes... hentai.” The young government-paid student stepped back, distancing himself from Fat Man.

But thinking about what Fat Man had said earlier, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but explain, ”We are really just friends! She wants to buy some fresh Jiao blood ink... where else could you find fresher than what the Spring Guests bring?”

Fat Man let out a cold laugh to express his disdain.

Zheng Qing sighed and turned to look at Doctor Xiao.

Doctor Xiao also had something to say.

”Is your recent invitation still valid?” Xiao Xiao twirled his mustache and asked—it was about Zheng Qing’s previous invitation to him to attend Spring Guest.

”Valid, of course it’s valid.” Zheng Qing was eager to have more witnesses to the innocent relationship between himself and Jiang Yu, and hastily agreed, ”The invitation allows for bringing one female companion, one pet, and several followers... you can perfectly act as one of my followers.”
