High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1325: Chapter 72 Sepulano and Uncle Zhang Zhi

Zheng Qing saw Zhang Ji Xin, who was in a small huddle with three other wizards as though admiring some piece of art. To his left was the equally red-faced but lean-bodied Uncle Zhang Zhi, to his right the robust and stalwart Sepulano, and facing Zheng Qing was a wizard he knew well, Andrew, captain of the Ouroboros Hunting Team.

Uncle Zhang Zhi and other wizards under Sepulano clustered not far from the small circle, forming two markedly distinct groups.

Two in red robes, two in white, congregating together—it was hard not to be curious about what they were doing.

Sister Korma stopped in her tracks a good distance away from the four male wizards.

”We’re going to buy some female products, do you want to come with us?” she asked the warlock with a smile.

Zheng Qing thought she was doing it on purpose.

But the warlock by now could handle such situations very well. He quietly extricated his hand from her arm and responded with equal mirth: ”Coincidentally, I need to buy some male products too...”

”Fantastic,” Sister Korma raised an eyebrow, reached out to take Poseidon from the warlock, then turned her head to Jiang Yu and said, ”Let’s go... See you later.”

The last two words were meant for Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing hesitated for a few seconds before ultimately deciding that Little Fox might be safer with a Big Wizard, plus it seemed to prefer being in the company of girls.

The warlock sighed and turned his head towards Xiao Xiao: ”The Elders are over there, let’s go say hello.”

”Very well, my lord,” Doctor Xiao Xiao replied, prolonging her tone in an egregiously unqualified servant-speak.

As Zhang Ji Xin saw Zheng Qing approach, he raised his arm as if to greet him, but also as though to keep him at a distance. Yet before Zheng Qing could decipher his gesture, another wizard among the onlookers had already waved him over.

It was Sepulano.

Uncle Zhang Zhi also looked up at Zheng Qing without intervening.

Zheng Qing paused for a second, then chose to step forward—he only wanted to greet Zhang Ji Xin and ask why he had come to the Quanke Comes. Neither Sepulano nor Uncle Zhang Zhi were individuals he felt the need to avoid.

”Elders, what brings you here?” the young warlock called out from a few steps away.

Before Zhang Ji Xin could open his mouth, Sepulano put his chubby index finger to his lips, then pointed to a flowerpot in the middle of them, signaling to keep quiet.

In that flowerpot, a Speaker Flower had just pushed through the soil, unfolding its delicate petals.

Soon after, and with a hissing crackling noise, the rough and strident Fishman Language flowed from the Speaker Flowers into the ears of the young wizards.

”... The Salmons and Angkens returned from Danghag last week. They were released early for good behavior. Before coming back, they were drinking at a pub on the Sharr Route in Danghag and ended up seeing a few Hunters.”

”On them were the symbols of Iron Cross, Tulip, Coiling Dragon, Black Tortoise.”

”Hiss...”

From the flower came a collective gasp of air.

”The schools are summoning the Hunters from the New World back to campus!” the voice grew excited: ”Look at these Hunters, they’re from the most famous hunting teams!”

”What are they being called back for?”

”To defend Black Prison, Preller,” another somewhat elderly voice reassured: ”Those hunting teams are returning to campus to defend the Black Prison. Over the past few years, the Sea Demons have been testing First University’s limits, and this year it seems they can’t hold back anymore.”

The other side sank into silence, giving the Speaker Flower the opportunity to stretch its tense petals and curling leaves.

”How do you know so much?” the excited voice challenged.

”I had a chat with Professor Garcia.”

”Why didn’t you tell us?!”

”...Because you never asked us.” The ancient voice seemed very calm, ”If you’re willing to chat with the elders of the tribe, you would know many things you do not.”

”So, what do the sea demons want to do?” A hoarse voice hissed, changing the subject.

”It’s said that many important sea demon figures are imprisoned in the Black Prison, and there are also demon treasures.” As for the specific reasons, the ancient voice was not sure, but he had some guesses, ”Now, rumors are flying all around at Wandering Bar... They all say the Dark Council is very interested in the sea demons’ plans. I guess it won’t be long before the school faces a great battle.”

”...So, those hunters won’t come to harass us, right?” the hoarse voice confirmed.

”If you’re willing to keep quiet for a while, yes, I believe they won’t make a move against a small Lake Bell Fishman Tribe.” The ancient voice sounded very tired, ”But if you continue to cause trouble, believe me, they will ’kill two birds with one stone’—after this great battle, there will certainly be many vacancies in the Black Prison.”

”We are not afraid of those wizards! If they dare to mess with us, I’ll rip them to shreds!”

”Yes, yes, no one is scared of those wizards. But there’s no need to get into petty disputes with them.”

...

The chat ended there, and the rest of the conversation became noisier and cruder. Soon, the Speaker Flowers quieted down completely and shortly after, curled back into a ball and shrank into itself.

Sepulano put away the flowerpot and looked towards Uncle Zhang Zhi.

”Just like you heard,” he squinted, his voice as deep as ever, ”the Lake Bell Fishman will be quieter for the time being. That is, if you don’t provoke them too much.”

”What does this have to do with Alpha?” Uncle Zhang Zhi stared at the Fat Wizard and asked softly.

Sepulano chuckled.

”I know you understand,” he spoke ambiguously, glancing at Zheng Qing, and finally added, ”At such a crucial time, everyone hopes the school can remain peaceful.”

Zheng Qing wasn’t sure if Sepulano’s ’crucial time’ referred to the critical moment of the club elections or the crucial moment when the school dealt with the Black Prison.

But it didn’t prevent him from grasping the content of what he had just heard.

The Lake Bell Fishman Tribe was planning to back down, and Alpha Academy also didn’t want any complications. That is, as long as Jiuyou Academy didn’t keep harping on the Fishman for smearing feces on the library walls or attacking patrol teams.

It was hard to say which side truly benefited.

Every side had its losses, but also stood to gain.

Uncle Zhang Zhi did not respond to Sepulano’s request immediately.

He moved his gaze from the air—where the flowerpot had been—onto Sepulano, tugged at his hat brim toward him, then spun it around on Zheng Qing, and finally landed on the group of White-robed in the distance:

”The difference between us and the Fishman is that, sometimes, a wizard’s methods are more ruthless.”

”It’s just that the Fishman don’t bother to conceal their actions.”

”Just like those guys from Atlas Academy preach, on the day of Judgement, God will punish the wicked. We are not far from Judgement Day. All evil will turn to ashes in judgement.”

Zheng Qing was taken aback.

He never knew that Zhang Ji Xin’s brother was even more radical than him.

Sepulano seemed accustomed to Uncle Zhang Zhi’s rhetoric, just smiled, ”Then I will take it as a conditional yes from you... By the way, I truly think you are more suited to Atlas Academy. The school’s current house system is a joke.”

This time, Uncle Zhang Zhi did not engage him but turned to look at Zheng Qing:

”Nice to meet you, ’World’ of the Great Arcana... I apologize, but I need to borrow your hunter a bit longer. Feel free to come to Heavenly Mansion for tea when you’re free.”
