High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1317: Chapter 64 Pre-class 2-3 Affairs

A week had passed, and Nicholas once again appeared in the Astronomy Class 08-1 classroom.

As everyone had expected, his face was pale, and his expression, a bit withered—a common state for all who had just recovered from a severe illness. However, to everyone’s surprise was the fluctuation of magical power that wrapped around the veteran student.

The classmates whispered among themselves as they looked at the black curse mark on Nicholas’s forehead. Many had heard about the Northern District Wizard and how Nicholas’s magic talents had greatly diminished after he extracted his Werewolf Bloodline. Yet, for most, it was the first time they learned of his choice to enter Gini Cottage and become a Northern District Wizard.

For the proud students of the First University, such a choice was tantamount to social suicide.

But as for Nicholas, he had been killed more than two years by the dull knife of gossip at the school, and had recently ”magically” offed himself on the shores of Lin Zhong Lake, so he hardly cared about being ”killed” one more time.

Just as Korma the Wise had told him, this world was naturally a world of killing each other. I kill you, you kill someone else, in an endless cycle, without pause.

If others ”killed” him, he also needed to kill ”others.”

Such as frogs.

Nicholas tightened his grip on the net bag he held in his hand, which was filled with a dozen lively little frogs. This was his daily consumption.

Zheng Qing didn’t pay attention to Nicholas, instead focusing his attention on the reactions of his classmates—a task assigned to him by Jiang Yu the day before. She needed to collect information to feed back to the professors about the students’ reactions to the North District Tricksters, as preliminary work for a large-scale divination at the school.

After observing for a long time, Zheng Qing inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief in his heart.

This was Jiuyou Academy, after all, where a wizard’s talent wasn’t so paramount. Most students looked at Nicholas with eyes filled with pity mixed with curiosity; their gaze was very restrained, as if afraid that looking too much would make him uncomfortable.

And so, in a sea of silence, Nicholas walked towards his corner seat in the classroom.

Liu Fei Fei did not sit in the front row today but chose to sit in the vacant seat next to Nicholas. No one laughed at her for it; instead, many warlocks and witches showed a hint of envy and longing in their eyes.

The class bell abruptly rang, jarringly loud in the quiet.

Professor Yao’s figure suddenly appeared at the lectern.

With teaching materials in his arms and a pipe in his hand, his eyes twinkled with a mischievous look, as if he intended to catch everyone off-guard with this sudden appearance—but the quiet and orderly classroom atmosphere clearly caught him off-guard.

The professor put down his materials and rubbed his hands together, looking like a big fly ready to feast.

But this move also made his figure slightly stutter as if losing frames.

Zheng Qing wasn’t the only one who noticed this detail.

Soon, many eyes in the classroom shifted from Nicholas to the professor. Everyone was curious as to why the professor had chosen to use a ’projection’ to teach the class today.

This was inconsistent with the school’s code of teaching ethics.

Like the students, Professor Yao was also curious about the day’s unusual classroom order:

”How is it the class order is so good today? It gave me quite a start.”

He made no attempt to conceal the surprise in his heart.

Then, he noticed many students craning their necks to peer toward the back of the classroom, and then he saw the figure of the warlock with the black curse mark on his forehead.

The Professor suddenly understood.

He cleared his throat and switched the pipe from his left hand to his right.

”Before class begins, let me first address a few matters,” Professor Yao tapped the lectern with his pipe—a mere projection, yet the pipe’s thumps resonated with a bang, startling the eyeballs out of a crowd of young wizards.

Old Yao revealed a satisfied smile.

”Firstly, as you can see... I might be quite busy recently; during class, I’ll likely use projection. But this will not affect the normal teaching schedule.”

”This has been reported to the Professor Joint Meeting, so those who plan on tattling can save your ink.”

Upon hearing this slightly playful sarcasm, at last, a few laughs echoed in the classroom, enlivening the atmosphere.

Professor Yao smiled, nodding, paused for a moment, then continued:

”...In fact, the curriculum for this academic year’s Curse Course is essentially finished. In the four weeks remaining before the final exams, we will focus on reviewing the various knowledge and key points related to curses that we’ve studied throughout the year, while also reinforcing certain theoretical knowledge.”

”For instance, the ’Guardian of the Original Morning’ spell that you all have pondered over the entire year.”

As soon as ’Guardian of the Original Morning’ was mentioned, the last few students who had been drifting off finally perked up and redirected their full attention to the Professor’s lectern.

In the first lesson of Curse Course upon entering the school, Professor Yao had written down the four characters for ’Guardian of the Original Morning,’ but throughout the entire year, he had scarcely explained them.

Even upperclassmen, other professors, and parents outside the school observed a taboo-like silence regarding these characters, unable to provide a clear and accurate explanation. And the books in the library concerning this subject were all stored in the deepest recesses, where one needed a slip signed by the Academy’s Dean to borrow them.

Almost every month, questions regarding the subject would surface, yet they remained unanswered.

Now, the confusion that had persisted for nearly a year was about to be resolved.

Everyone was alert to the utmost degree.

Professor Yao tugged at the corner of his mouth, the wrinkles on his face deepening with his smile:

”The second matter is about safety. I received a notice from the school this morning regarding certain special threats; the school has decided to impose a curfew for some time. It starts from sunset to sunrise the following day. Any unauthorized exit from the school is prohibited during this period.”

”Of course, after applying, you will still be able to visit the library and study rooms.”

”Oh, and from today on, the school will no longer supply goat milk; those in need can submit a written request to the school...hmm, the notice explicitly states that Professor Li Qihuang and the school hospital are in joint charge of reviewing these applications.”

Upon hearing the second announcement, several members of the Atonement Hunting Team sitting at the back of the classroom exchanged glances, their eyes filled with surprise, excitement, and anxiety.

They were surprised and excited because the suggestion they had made to the school was clearly taken seriously.

The anxiety stemmed from the school’s reaction; this was obviously no small matter—especially regarding who was selected to review the applications: Anyone with a brain could scent the signs of danger.

”Professor, what about the fishmen of Lake Bell? Do they have a curfew too?” A student blurted out from the ranks below, diverting everyone’s attention from the goat milk issue and prompting a roar of laughter.

The fishmen of Lake Bell had been causing a ruckus now and again recently, and it had been irritating many.

”A very valuable question.” Professor Yao did not smile at this question but instead was rather serious: ”If the Clock Lake Tribe believes they ought to comply with the school’s administration, then they should also adhere to the curfew. If the fishmen think they are independent of the school, then they may try challenging the school’s prohibition.”

This response left many people in contemplation.
