Chapter 1318: Chapter 65 The So-Called Guardian of the Original Morning

”Finally, welcome back to my class, Nicholas,”

”You didn’t miss much homework, and with the help of Liu Feifei, you could easily catch up. Of course, I also want to use this opportunity to make everyone understand something— the path of magic is as vast as the stars, and not monotonous or confined to a single right way. Different paths converge to the same endpoint, and all of them require you to walk on your own.”

”The path that belongs to you is the best and most suitable ’Way’.”

The classroom fell silent for a moment, and then a burst of enthusiastic applause followed.

The silence was a reflection on Professor Yao’s profound final words, and the applause was for Nicholas, who had climbed out from the abyss once more. Finally, everyone could openly observe the warlock sitting at the back of the classroom, looking at Liu Feifei sitting next to Nicholas, watching both of them blushing and bravely lifting their heads. Many people whistled, and some even used magic to shower the air with petals and summon pink sprites playing harps.

Professor Yao had to sternly stop these few behaviors.

When the classroom returned to normal, it was five minutes later—the small sprites in their gray uniforms took a while to clean up the petals on the floor.

”Today is a theoretical lesson on spells, just like I mentioned before. Today’s main topic is the ’Yuan Chen Guardian Spell,’” Professor Yao, satisfied with the attentive eyes looking at him from the audience, nodded and raised his pipe,

”First, let me see... who in the class has successfully cast the Yuan Chen Guardian?”

Zheng Qing hesitantly and proudly raised his arm to indicate.

Then he immediately realized his hesitation was reasonable—only four people in Astronomy Class 08-1 raised their arms, including Liu Feifei, Jiang Yu, and Matthew.

This amazed him.

Though he had expected that not many in class knew how to cast this spell, he had not anticipated it to be this few. He could understand why Zhang Ji Xin hadn’t learned it, considering the excessive muscle over brains issue with the elder. Yet it was confusing that other top students like Xiao Xiao and Tang Dun also had not mastered the Yuan Chen Guardian Spell.

”You didn’t manage to cast it successfully either?” Zheng Qing confirmed with a bit of pride to the Doctor, ”I thought you would ask Mister Sima to teach you this spell.”

Xiao Xiao glanced at him.

”Pay attention,” the Doctor, his feather pen pointing at the notebook in front of him, said expressionlessly.

Zheng Qing’s curious gaze reluctantly retracted.

”For those who have cast this spell, has anyone grasped the meaning of this spell?” the Professor threw another question from the podium, his gaze sliding across the faces of the four students.

This time, only two people raised their hands.

Jiang Yu and Matthew Karen.

Zheng Qing’s previous successful casting of the Yuan Chen Guardian was purely a happy accident—Elena unexpectedly agreed to his reckless date invitation—and in a moment, the warlock haphazardly mastered the spell.

It could be said it was successful but baffling.

Naturally, he didn’t have any profound insights to share.

”As expected,” Professor Yao looked at the remaining two students, nodded, and shoved the pipe into his mouth—but then, realizing it was not appropriate during class, he quickly took it out and pointed at a student in front of him with the end of the pipe:

”Just like this spell represents a ’Guidepost,’ students who already possess a clear ’Guidepost’ and ’Guide’ always grasp the spell faster.”

While speaking, he turned around, picked up a piece of chalk, and wrote the word ’Guidepost’ on the blackboard.

”These two characters are key to understanding this spell.”

”From the moment each of us is born, we establish an inseparable connection with the starry sky above us. This connection is extremely covert but genuinely real.”

”It may be a specific star, a constellation, or a patch of starry sky... The connection each person has with the sky varies. In other words, the extent of your journey on the magical path corresponds to how deep your connection with the starry sky is.”

”Returning to the name of this spell.”

”When hearing the four characters ’Yuan Chen Guardian,’ most students might veer off track. If you contemplate this spell from a ’Technique’ perspective, interpreting it with ’Great Consumption of Yuan Chen,’ you’d explain the meaning of ’Guardian,’ but it would be completely irrelevant to the actual spell.”

”In this spell, ’Yuan Chen’ leans more towards the meanings of ’zodiac sign,’ ’auspicious time,’ and ’original (New Year’s Day).’”

The so-called ’Great Consumption of Yuan Chen’ is a theory in astrological studies, enjoying substantial popularity in classical mysticism. Proponents of this theory believe that life-carrying Yuan Chen ’in prosperity brings downfall and generosity; in cessation brings misery and meagerness; with official symbols, it attracts unwanted troubles; with calamitous stars, it does not follow precise pathways; in conjunction brings great fortune, but rarely brings substantial progress in the flow of years.’

In simple terms, Yuan Chen is one of the many unfavorable ’lives’ in the Hundred Characters of Destiny and Evil Spirits.

”Can someone review for us the current classification of wizard ranks?” Professor Yao asked again, then casually picked Zheng Qing to answer.

This was a question to garner easy points, which Zheng Qing thought as he stood up.

Without hesitation, he answered: ”Unregistered Wizard, Registered Wizard, Big Wizard, Legendary Wizard, Ancient Wizard...”

”That’s enough, that’s enough,” Professor Yao quickly interrupted the young cost student, motioning for him to shut up and sit down, swiftly diverting the answer: ”Of course, the Alliance also popularizes further subdivision of Registered Wizards into Low Tier, Mid Tier, High Tier Registered Wizards, and so on... What I mean to say is, behind this array of ranks, we can all see a clear ’Path’ established by our predecessors.”

”But this ’Path’ is too broad, as we walk along it, we might just be going around in circles or veering off without even realizing it. Just as it is said, ’watching the river run a horse to death,’ on an endless plain, what looks close might take a long journey with no sense of progression felt. At such times, we inevitably develop feelings of self-doubt.”

”Such emotions are very detrimental to learning and research.”

”Thus, at this time, we need a clear ’Guidepost,’ from the top down, overseeing from a high vantage point, to see whether we are simply marking time or truly moving forward.”

Hearing this, most of the class still showed confused and bewildered expressions. Elder Zhang Da, in particular, was scratching his head, completely at a loss about the professor’s key points.

But Zheng Qing felt a sudden clarity.

He finally understood what his ’Yuan Chen Guardian’ was all about—the clearest, most profound path for him was one that followed the direction of ’Forbidden Curse.’

His Forbidden Curse seed was ’Order.’

And the essence of the Forbidden Curse was destruction, symbolizing death.

From this perspective, the Death God Messenger, representing the ’Order of the Death World’ as his Guardian Yuan Chen, could now be understood. As for why it was only a messenger and not the ’God of Death’ itself, the warlock thought it might be related to the fact that the Forbidden Curse was just a seed and not yet fully formed.
