High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 933: Chapter 281 Winter Vacation Plan

With the proctors’ warning, order in Green Valley was instantly much improved.

However, Andrew Taylor, standing opposite Zheng Qing, still looked at him with an unwilling face. This made Zheng Qing, while talking to Xin Fat Man, have to divert about forty to fifty percent of his attention, vigilant of any possible dirty tricks from that young wolf.

He had never forgotten how, during a previous practice class, Andrew had used the opportunity of shaking hands to prick his hand with a ring, stealing his blood.

”Why did you just say that today there would be a lot of people entering the school hospital?” Zheng Qing repeated his earlier question to Xin Fat Man, his gaze fixed on the young Taylor the whole time, ”I think everyone was very restrained in their bouts.”

He was referring to several pairs of first-year students who had just completed their practical assessments.

After all, Jiuyou Academy is not Starry Sky Academy. The academy’s demands on students’ practical abilities are quite lenient—being able to calmly lift the Law book and normally release magic was considered a success.

Just like the pairs of students who had just been assessed, bowing politely, exchanging moves, each gesture and motion measured, they showed quite a Gentleman-like demeanor from ancient times—compared to the brutality and ruthlessness in Starry Sky Academy and on the Hunting Ground, this type of practical assessment could definitely be called restrained.

Upon hearing the young cost student’s confusion, Xin hid nothing.

”Oh... I forgot.” The fat man lazily flipped through his Law book, his fingers occasionally sliding over his blank wrist.

Normally, a Space watch filled with all kinds of tasty snacks would be tied around his wrist. Due to the examination, all Space Equipment had been collected by the proctors, but it wasn’t so easy to overcome a habit formed over a long period.

The fat man always felt as if the watch was still on his wrist.

”What?!” Zheng Qing turned his head, looking at the fat man in surprise, ”You forgot? What do you mean ’you forgot’?”

”Forgot means... I’ve forgotten the reason why I said that,” said the fat man nonchalantly as he patted his Law book. There was no embarrassment in his tone for not being able to answer the question, instead, he seemed justified, ”This kind of thing happens quite often, doesn’t it?”

Indeed, forgetting things was quite common, but still, such forgetfulness was astonishingly unusual to Zheng Qing.

”Are you sure there’s nothing wrong with you here?” Zheng Qing lifted his arm, tapped his temple to indicate the brain, and speculated, ”Or could it be that you’ve been brewing too many Magic Potions lately, inhaling too many potion fumes, leading to memory decline?”

Xin Fat Man rolled his eyes.

”Excuse me,” he replied irritably, ”Do you think I brew Magic Potions without wearing a protective mask and barehanded? I certainly don’t want to be banned from entering Professor Li’s laboratory next time for violating lab rules.”

This response was quite reasonable. Zheng Qing tugged at the corner of his mouth, but still couldn’t help commenting, ”Even so... It’s very rare to be as forgetful as you are. I think you could apply to become Professor Montreya’s assistant.”

Professor Montreya was in charge of a laboratory on ’Evolution and Bloodlines’ at the First University. To become his assistant meant to serve as one of the professor’s experimental subjects. The students often joked about this among each other.

”Professor Montreya only hires postgraduate students, that is, assistants at the Registered Wizard level,” Xin Fat Man replied seriously, ”Besides, among the undergraduate students, only you cost students would have the chance to work in his lab... I actually want to, but alas, the professor doesn’t need me.”

”Tsk,” Zheng Qing uttered an unintelligible sound and then turned his attention back to Andrew Taylor.

The young wolf now seemed much more composed, lying on a rock, holding a Feather Pen and scribbling in his Law book, apparently preparing some kind of curse.

”Speaking of which, the reason I forgot was because something else suddenly came to mind,” Xin Fat Man changed the subject and continued conversing, ”I’ve been thinking about what I want to do during the winter vacation.”

Yes, winter vacation.

The final exams were to end in a week, and after that, it would be a month-long winter break. However, the thought of having to waste most of the holiday dealing with public affairs at school as a cost student made Zheng Qing feel gloomy.

”Do you have any plans for this winter vacation?” Xin Fat Man suddenly came over with a hint of mystery and whispered in Zheng Qing’s ear.

Zheng Qing turned his head and glanced hesitantly at Fat Man, eventually shaking his head to indicate he had none, ”I’ll just handle the school’s assignments, flip through some history books, and follow my own historical curiosities... Nothing else really.”

”Oh, and, visit home for the New Year’s.” Upon remembering, he quickly added another line.

”You sound like an old man.” Fat Man sighed with dissatisfaction and then poked Zheng Qing’s back with the spine of a Law book, ”Want to go check out the North District?”

”North District?” Zheng Qing was slightly intrigued.

The ”town” Fat Man referred to was Beta Town, naturally.

Before the young cost student could prepare an answer, he was interrupted by the examiner’s voice:

”Next group!”

”Jiuyou Academy, Astronomy Class 08-1, student Zheng Qing!”

”Alpha Academy, Alchemy Class 08-1, Andrew Taylor!”

”Prepare for the examination!”

Not far away, the examiner’s high-pitched shout resonated.

Accompanying it were sudden murmurs in Green Valley, and scrutinizing gazes that seemed to pop up everywhere—like a grain of gold in the sand. When he blended unnoticed among the sands, he was inconspicuous, but the moment he was picked out, he instantly attracted numerous gazes.

This effect was not hard to understand.

In a well-ordered environment, such as a quiet classroom, or an elegant cocktail party, even if everyone knows there’s a professor standing at the back of the classroom or some important figure at a corner of the party, for the sake of courtesy, everyone still pretends not to notice because it’s civilized and staring blatantly at someone is extremely impolite and uncivilized.

In these moments, all it took was a little unexpected noise, like a noise from the back of the classroom, or a glass dropping at the party, to provide a sufficient reason for curious glances to be ’justifiably’ cast in that direction.

For example, now, as the examiner called out Zheng Qing’s name.

Gazes that were initially interested but disregarding for the sake of politeness, were unanimously directed toward the young wizard.

Feeling those gazes filled with curiosity, scrutiny, and excitement, Zheng Qing shrugged his shoulders and raised his hand:

”Here!”
