High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 918: Chapter 266: The Pink Octopus

”Zheng Qing?!”

”Where’s Zheng Qing?!”

”Zheng Qing?? Are you at the library?!”

”Zheng Qing! Come out fast! Something big happened!!”

Xin Fat Man’s shrill and piercing voice echoed throughout the entire library, making the tall floor-to-ceiling windows buzz with vibration. It was as though a voiceless forest was suddenly interrupted by a plucked drake, shattering the quiet atmosphere in an instant, and soon drawing numerous dissatisfied complaints and noisy denunciations.

Zheng Qing’s face instantly turned green.

He struggled to get up from the floor, hoping against hope, and listened again.

Indeed, it was Xin Fat Man’s shouting, and he was indeed calling his name.

”Damn it! Has this fatso taken the wrong medicine?” The young cost student grabbed the Law book and pocket watch at hand, stuffed them into the Grey Cloth Bag, and bolted toward the exit. He didn’t even bother to tidy up the table full of books.

He had to do something.

For example, find Xin Fat Man before he found Zheng Qing, then knock him unconscious and drag him out of the Book Mountain Library; or slip out of the library quietly before Xin Fat Man found him, pretending he had never been there and didn’t know that dead fatso.

Theoretically, the first plan was the best, as it would limit the damage to the greatest extent. But considering the gap in combat strength between himself and Xin Fat Man under normal circumstances, the young wizard finally decided that the best plan was to simply get away.

Regrettably, in this world, there are too many disappointments, not to mention the ones that come one after another.

Just as he passed through the narrow aisle between two shelves, Zheng Qing bumped head-on into a familiar greasy fat man.

Before he could recover from the collision, his arm was tightly grabbed by the fat man.

”Damn! Zheng Qing! You’re here!!”

Xin Fat Man looked at the young cost student with frenzied eyes, his face turned so blue it was almost purple: ”You still have the mood to stay here?!! Let’s go, hurry up and follow me! It’s a big mess! The wands have gone mad, and the school has gone mad too!!”

As he spoke, he started dragging Zheng Qing towards the exit of the library.

Zheng Qing’s face paled with fright at Xin Fat Man’s slightly crazy behavior and his bluish face. He leaned his body back, struggling desperately against the overwhelming force coming his way, and stuttered, ”Right, calm, I’m being calm right now... Xin, Xin Fat Man, you calm down too... let’s just, let’s just talk this over... stay cool, stay calm.”

Because he was somewhat nervous, his voice even cracked.

Xin Fat Man tugged a few steps, found it unexpectedly difficult, and decided to stop, anxiously looking at the young wizard: ”What are you doing? I am being very calm right now, just follow me!”

His booming voice almost broke the ceiling of the library.

From the corner of his eye, Zheng Qing could see many sets of eyes, filled with curiosity and distaste, poking out from behind different bookshelves, silently sizing them up.

This immediately made him break out in a fine layer of cold sweat on his forehead.

He pulled his other hand out of the Grey Cloth Bag, unfolded the Law book, and recited in haste:

”Silence and Think, wake and break the force!”

This was an advanced Calming Incantation that he had learned from Su Shijun, which, apart from the basic effect of calming the mind and concentrating the energy, also vaguely incorporated the effect of a ’sudden wake-up call’, and was often used by high-level wizards to prevent conditions like losing control of their magic.

Zheng Qing felt that in the current situation, using this spell was indeed more than appropriate.

A pale green light suddenly burst out from the Law book, hitting Xin Fat Man squarely in the chest. The slightly agitated Fat Man, after being hit by the spell, saw the bluish tone of his face gradually fade away, and the force in his hands also lightened a bit.

Zheng Qing finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He pulled his arm back from under Fat Man’s grip, straightened up, then while shaking his arm, frowned and quickly asked, ”Did you just lose your mind? Yelling and shouting in the library, do you want to end up like Doctor again, toiling under Mr. Octopus for a whole semester?”

”I didn’t lose my mind, and Doctor wasn’t assigned labor just for yelling and shouting.” Fat Man, regaining his composure, sighed, his voice lowered, also showing a hint of helplessness, ”This is for your own good... Let’s go outside and talk, let’s go out first, we’ll talk once we’re out.”

”Explain yourself first, what exactly is going on!” Zheng Qing hurriedly followed Fat Man as they trotted out of the library, all the while asking anxiously, ”What were you ranting about just now? What does it mean, the school has gone mad?”

”It means exactly what it says...” Fat Man’s explanation came to an abrupt halt before he could finish.

Correspondingly, his pace, leading Zheng Qing out of the library, also came to a stop.

Zheng Qing, not reacting in time, bumped into Fat Man once again.

”Damn it, couldn’t you have said something before stopping...” Zheng Qing’s brewing complaints were immediately swallowed back down deep into his belly when he saw the massive pink octopus in front of them.

The administrators of Book Mountain Library were a group of octopuses, something every student at First University knew.

Only, in Zheng Qing’s memory, these octopuses were generally not much larger than a mature winter melon, and more importantly, they were almost uniformly of a translucent color. The only thing distinguishing them to the average student might be the employee number stitched on the edge of the grey hat on the administrators’ heads.

Of course, it seems that no student took the trouble to memorize those employee numbers for the octopus administrators.

When students encountered this administrator in the labyrinth of shelves, they would generally just call it ’Mr. Zhang’, with the more polite students even bowing or paying their respects. As long as you didn’t draw doodles on book pages or tear out a page and stuff it in your pocket in front of them, Mr. Octopus was usually quite approachable.

But clearly, the octopus that appeared in front of Zheng Qing and Xin Fat Man did not seem to fall into the category of ’quite approachable’. Zheng Qing secretly wondered if the octopus had changed color and swelled up so much because it was so infuriated—though this was a speculation he definitely wouldn’t voice out loud.

”Good day, Mr. Zhang!”

”Good day, Mr. Zhang!”

The two first-year students in red robes instantly went from belligerent youngsters to well-behaved children, bowing respectfully to the pink octopus in front of them and greeting it in unison.

However, this gesture didn’t earn them any more favorable treatment.

”Student Sinn Bana Schmidt-Bayer!”

”Student Zheng Qing!”

”You are far too audacious!!”

”Yelling and causing a ruckus in Book Mountain Library, disturbing the library’s order, are you staging a revolt?”

The gigantic pink octopus spat out a dense blob of ink, forming a series of large, serious, austere black letters in mid-air: ”Send for your dean to come and collect you!!”

The two young wizards immediately turned pale with fright.
