High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 905: Chapter 253 Confucius said

The Yellow Flowered Cat had originally not planned to reveal itself.

Instead of going to the trouble of dealing with all sorts of messy affairs outside, it preferred to shuttle between different spatial cracks, hiding in corners invisible to others, quietly observing some oblivious fellow.

But the reality of the situation was, if it didn’t take action, that fellow was about to be captured—a truly terrible situation for a cat that knew a bit of the truth.

It was like a photography enthusiast, watching over an ugly duckling that had blended into a flock of ducks, delighting in its growth day by day. Just as winter passed and the duckling had grown and was about to soar high, a vulture descended from the sky, snatching away the still not fully grown ugly duckling with one swoop.

Could anything be more frustrating than this?

In fact, no matter how you looked at it, this year’s winter hunting activity greatly deviated from the ’First University extracurricular practice activity’ that the Yellow Flowered Cat had envisioned.

Of course, the great name of the Yellow Flowered Cat wasn’t actually Yellow Flowered Cat.

In order to avoid leaving traces that could be picked up by detection magic, let’s just use this code name for now.

According to past traditions and what the veterans said, the so-called winter hunting was about the school demarcating different hunting areas with various danger levels on the edge of Silent Forest. Then, they would drop students of varying abilities into them to clear out the ’pests’ in the hunting areas. Sometimes, if there weren’t enough pests outside the school, the school would entrust other institutions to provide some live prey.

In general, this should be a large-scale exercise with a planned, schematic, and conclusive outcome. It was supposed to be a very secure and safe end-of-term assessment.

However, because the Silent Tide came early this year, the quantity and species of ’pests’ that ran out of Silent Forest were a little over the normal standard. But all of this was still under the school’s control.

It was just that with the emergence of an unexpected ’Sandbox Mini World’ in hunting area D-Alpha, and with this mini world slowly collapsing, followed by the appearances of Fei Rui, four unwelcome guests, Su Shijun, and that Nameless giant hand one after another, the Yellow Flowered Cat finally couldn’t continue to observe from the shadows.jpg.

If it didn’t take action now, that little brother was about to be captured by that giant hand!

Luckily, at the last moment, it finally managed to contact the master who was in a far and unpredictable place.

”Hey... The old immortal can’t make it, so they sent you to take the fall?”

The voice from the black hole was unhurried, seemingly not at all surprised by the Yellow Flowered Cat’s emergence. However, unlike the calm voice, the large hand that was originally spread open suddenly formed a Hand Jue, and slightly retracted, taking a highly cautious stance.

”Shut up!”

The Yellow Flowered Cat, forced to reveal itself, was in a bad mood. It lifted its paw and slapped it toward the giant hand.

When the small furry paw set out, it was only the size of a bottle cap; then it rapidly grew larger, to the size of the mouth of a cup, a bowl, a pot lid; by the time the paw reached the mouth of the black hole, it had expanded to just over two meters in diameter, neither more nor less, perfectly blocking the entrance.

The giant hand lurking at the entrance of the black hole was no slouch either. Its six fingers danced rapidly, pinching out a series of dazzling Hand Jues: ”Section...This...South...Mountain! Maintain...Rock...Rock...Rock!!”

”BOOM!!!”

The massive cat paw slammed heavily onto the phantom of a rocky mountain, causing a deafening roar, buzzing in Zheng Qing’s ears——compared to it, the previous buzzing and hoarse voice from within the black hole seemed like the pleasant sound of a flowing stream.”Are the pads on your paws all meat?” The raspy voice from the black hole continued to taunt the Yellow Flowered Cat, and the tone was getting nastier, ”I’ve always heard that cats have nine lives... I wonder how many you have left after living so long.”

”I reckon that I’ve still got a good seven or eight lives left,” the Yellow Flowered Cat snapped back unabashedly. ”As for you, I might not know how many you have left... but you’re definitely going to be down one today. That much I’m sure of.”

”I really doubt that with those fluffy little paws of yours, you could even count up to ten with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.” Along with that mocking voice, the huge hand beneath the shadow of the rock formation also provocatively gestured a middle finger and beckoned to the Yellow Flowered Cat.

It looked like a grand battle of paws was about to start.

The Yellow Flowered Cat was originally arching its back, standing its tail on end, and staring fiercely at the hand under the rock formation’s shadow, ready to pounce at any moment and tear it to shreds.

But for some reason, the cat suddenly backed down and reverted to the lazy demeanor common to its kind.

And Zheng Qing quickly understood the reason for the Yellow Flowered Cat’s change of attitude.

”Forgive! What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.” A familiar voice suddenly rang in Zheng Qing’s ears, startling him.

He turned around to see a figure wearing a long robe, sporting black-framed round glasses, and appearing somewhat short and chubby. It was Mr. Wu, the owner of the San You Bookstore, the one who had taught Zheng Qing the art of talismans.

Zheng Qing felt a pang around his eyes and sniffled, but a big smile spread uncontrollably across his face.

”Hello, sir!” He immediately turned around, straightened his robe, and bowed respectfully to the figure.

Mr. Wu didn’t answer but instead reached out to straighten Zheng Qing’s collar, lecturing him, ”A scholar must be resolute and far-reaching. Bearing heavy responsibilities with a long road ahead. Treating kindness as one’s duty, isn’t it weighty? To die without regret, isn’t it far-reaching?”

Zheng Qing nodded along, only half understanding.

Not far away, Su Shijun looked on with a shocked face at Mr. Wu’s plump figure, her mouth agape as if she wanted to say something but couldn’t utter a word.

Mr. Wu glanced at her and nodded in praise, ”Utterly beautiful, and also utterly virtuous.”

Having said this, he looked around at the pine trees scattered all over the ground, at the snow mixed with mud and bloodstains, at the tense assistants and the young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team in the distance, and sighed deeply, ”Only in cold winters can one appreciate the unfading nature of pines and cypresses.”

”Hiss... Hehe... The old geezer is dropping more knowledge bombs,” the raspy voice from the black hole laughed mockingly, rudely interrupting Mr. Wu’s words, ”Old and yet not dead, what’s the meaning of this?”

Mr. Wu answered with a smile, ”Striving so hard that one forgets to eat, and finds joy that makes one forget sorrows, not realizing that old age is approaching.”

In the midst of this back-and-forth, Zheng Qing suddenly realized something was amiss. He looked around at Su Shijun, still with a shocked expression, at the Yellow Flowered Cat lying lazily on a tree stump motionless, at his teammates from the assistant team and the Absolution Hunting Team supporting each other nearby.

Especially since a minute ago, Xin Fat Man had been feeding Assistant Hilda a potion continuously.

Considering the size of the small bottle, even if it had been filled with potion, it should have been drained dry by now. But the fat man kept holding that small bottle, and that same small bottle kept dripping potion.

This young government-funded student finally realized what was wrong.
