High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 347: Chapter 16: Mie Mie? Mie Mie Mie!_1

”Did you hear anything?”

On the other side of the lakeshore’s patrol area, a robed white-faced male wizard with a black border embroidered on his robe, stopped walking, puzzled, and turned to look at the distant surface of the lake.

”What sound...” his companion, a chubby male wizard leaning on a staff, panting heavily, looking as if he could collapse at any moment, ”What sound...”

”It sounds like someone breaking rocks.” The white-faced wizard scratched his head, his tone also somewhat uncertain.

”Huff... You’re... huff... joking... in the middle of the night, breaking rocks by the lake... huff...what do you think, the Fishmen sit idly?” The fat wizard finally caught his breath, his speech much smoother, ”Where is the noise coming from?”

”It seems... it’s on the east side of the lake?”

”There’s only a slope over there, and above it is the Lakefront Corridor, and behind it, there’s an orchard. Every night, a group of fireflies rests over there,” The chubby wizard, obviously very familiar with the environment near Lin Zhong Lake, quickly analysed, ”Maybe it’s just some drunken Fishman going crazy...The Night Patrol Team also has people arranged over there, since no warning has been raised then there’s no need to worry too much...”

”There are two freshmen assigned over there,” The white-faced wizard sounded a little discontent, ”Old man Ferna got drunk today, I bet he’s probably snoring in the cabin... As veterans, we need to be more attentive...”

”This is a major college, what could possibly go wrong!” The chubby wizard’s face showed a hint of helplessness.

Perceiving his companion’s dissatisfaction, he hurriedly added, ”Besides... You just mentioned the freshmen, if I’m not mistaken, one of them is this year’s recipient of the Merlin Medal... Maybe he is practising the Thunder Curse.”

”Practising the Thunder Curse in the middle of the night?” The white-faced wizard frowned, cocked his ear, and listened for a while longer.

The strange sound didn’t come again.

So, he too, became somewhat uncertain.

”Regardless... It’s an abnormality, it should at least be recorded.” The white-faced wizard muttered, took out the patrol team’s registration plate, fished out an hourglass and a feather pen from his bosom, tilted his head and asked his companion, ”Did you bring any fireflies?”

”Who would carry those insects, besides the old guys from the janitor committee...” The fat wizard struggled to pull out a piece of talisman paper from his bag, muttered, gave it a light shake, continuing to complain incessantly, ”What a life... Each patrol cost... and there’s nowhere to claim reimbursements...”

Smoke emitted from the talisman paper and in the blink of an eye, transformed into an orange-yellow ball of light.

”The current time, twelve thirty-seven...” The white-faced wizard paid no heed to his companion’s complaints, but looked at the watched and quickly made a record on the form, ”East of Lin Zhong Lake, heard a sound of some sort of object impacting the surface...”

Writing up to this point, his feather pen paused, and he added a bracket behind it, supplementing,

”(Or possibly a short burst of thunder)... Suspected someone practicing Thunder Curse, or Fishmen activity at night... No follow-up abnormal sounds... No warning signs from the campus protection array... Temporary recording... Lin Zhong Lake Night Patrol Team xxx, Time..., Location...”

Similar scenes occured in different corners by the lake.

Almost all patrol members didn’t pay any attention to that brief, yet loud, abnormal sound.

If the young wizard working diligently by the lake knew what the other patrol members were thinking, he would probably spit out a mouthful of blood, spraying it three metres away.

But he can’t spit blood now.

Lin Guo was still unconscious.

The Black Mountain Goat, because of the previous fierce impact, was dizzily spinning on the spot.

The Kappa Monster was trying to get its legs out of the grass nest, ready to burst into the corridor a few meters away at any moment.

He was the first to recover.

This was a good opportunity, the young scholarship student was rejuvenated, the Law Book in his hands flipped rapidly, moving automatically in the windless air:

”Ge Zhitianxi...”

The clear spell sound echoed by the lakeshore.

This was the first spell he had learned, and it was also the spell he had mastered most proficiently in practice class. Most importantly, he had seen others use this spell more than once to control some violent creatures.

Green halos rolled between the pages of the book, boiling up.

Vines as thick as thumbs sprang out of the void from all directions, spreaded along the neck, joints, and back of the Kappa Monster, and in the blink of an eye wrapped its upper body like a zongzi (Chinese dumpling).

Seeing it trying to open its mouth, Zheng Qing swiftly commanded several vines to twist into a thick vine stick and viciously cram it into its mouth.

He had learned this trick from Jiang Yu.

”Bang!” The wild demon flexed its legs and shattered the grass nest, leaping up. It stared with fierce red eyes, slamming hard into the corridor.

”Thud!” The recooperating big mountain goat wasn’t about to let the wild demon succeed so easily. It lowered its head, curved its back, and stomped with its four hooves, colliding once more into the beast.

The upper half of the Kappa monster that was trapped didn’t feature the agility it had before. Its midriff was heavily hit, and its clawed feet lost grip of the ground, rolling over and crashing into the nearby bush.

A few mouths of dark blood spouted from its mouth, landing on the grass.

A layer of ink-colored stain emerged on the deep green grass almost instantly, light-colored smoke rising, and a pungent smell of scorching wafting the air.

With a frown, Zheng Qing slowed down his breath, trying to ignore these distractions.

This time, he wouldn’t let this beast escape again.

A few vines sprouted from the ground, like striking pythons, twining around the Kappa monster’s two legs. Then a few thinner vines extended, filling the gap between its waist and carapace.

The young scholarship student remembered the essence of the first time he learned the binding spell when Jiang Da Headmaster demonstrated it to everyone.

If there is a gap, fill it.

When all the gaps were filled, and the wild demon was bound into a ball by the vines, Zheng Qing discovered another slightly embarrassing thing.

He needs to keep pressing the law book and staring at the wild demon to maintain the power of the binding spell.

The Kappa monster was under his control. This wasn’t a problem. The cross-intersecting vines held the beast firmly in place, and aside from a pair of eyes, it couldn’t even open its mouth.

But he can’t stand here until dawn, right?

Lin Guo is still unconscious, there was no third person here. How could he let others know about the situation here?

The halo on the law book flickered, predicting the instability of the young wizard’s spiritual world.

Zheng Qing missed his group of elves very much at this moment.

Although they can’t speak, there is no problem in sending messages.

Even if he brought Poseidon along, it would be much better than standing here stupidly waiting!

Thinking of Poseidon, the young scholarship student suddenly realized there was another conscious creature on the scene - Lin Guo’s black mountain goat.

”Meh~!” He tried to shout while keeping an eye on the wild demon ball.

So stupid.

The silhouette of the black mountain goat stifled for a moment.

”Meh...” Zheng Qing elongated his voice, attempting to mimic the goat’s cry, trying to attract its attention.

The black mountain goat slowly turned its head, staring expressionless at the young wizard.

”Come over here, meh...meh?” Seeing the black mountain goat’s movement, Zheng Qing felt a huge relief from the bottom of his heart. A cheerful smile surfaced on his face, his voice growing stronger: ”Meh... come over here...meh-meh!”

The black mountain goat’s cheek slowly twitched, hesitating whether it should jump up and ram the foolish young man.

But after contemplating it over and over again, it ultimately didn’t act impulsively.

Zheng Qing watched as the black mountain goat slowly approached, feeling increasingly joyful.

”Meh... could you go call for help?”
