High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 318: Chapter 242 Two Vice Principals_1

Zhuangzi once professed:

The perfected man lacks self; the divine man has no achievements; the saint is nameless.

The Nameless is the origin of heaven and earth.

There is also a saying in Su Wen: The sage situates himself amidst the harmony of heaven and earth, follows the principles of the eight winds, indulges his desires modestly between worldly customs, without a heart filled with anger, acts without deviating from the world, dresses in a way that doesn’t seek attention, neither exhausting his appearance with affairs nor suffering from ponderous thoughts. His duties lie in tranquility and joy and in self-contentment his achievement. Neither his body is worn out, nor his spirit scattered.

The meaning behind it is, a sage would comply with the divine and accommodate to mankind, his actions and preferences are no different from those of common people, he neither expresses anger nor impatience, he is at ease and content, leisurely and self-satisfied.

Zheng Qing closely eyed the towering figure some ten meters away, these thoughts quickly coursing through his mind.

Perhaps, the President doesn’t lack a name.

”To name the nameless, is not to render it non-existent.” The young student on government scholarship couldn’t help but murmur under his breath.

Upon hearing this, Xiao Xiao’s eyes sparkled, and he adjusted his glasses, took out his writing brush, and jotted down these words in his notebook.

From a straightforward comparison, the presidents descending the cloud ladder weren’t much taller than the other professors.

But to the freshmen standing behind the long corridor, these figures still seemed insurmountably high and far beyond reach.

The Nameless President stood at the front.

Every pair of eyes was fixed intently upon him.

Perhaps the president had deliberately repressed his aura, Zheng Qing finally managed to get a clearer look - and then he couldn’t help feeling a slight sense of disappointment.

The headmaster’s appearance was far from handsome, and his deportment far from imposing.

Although he was tall, he seemed to have gained some weight, the black robe draped over him seemed to be a bit tight. But the aura he had cultivated for a long time well concealed this, causing the freshmen to instinctively overlook these defects in front of him.

His cheeks were slightly dark, his forehead broad and high, with long hair neatly tidied up, tied into a simple bun piled on the back of his head.

His eyes were bright, his lips were purple, and with his slightly dark face, he gave off an impression of leisurely composure.

Zheng Qing felt that, whether it was this imposing figure or slightly imposing image, both were significantly different from his inner idea of an insightful and affable old man.

Whether it was the books kept in the Book Mountain Library or anecdotes from outside, when mentioning the president of the First University, the image that always came up was that of someone sinking to the level of a common mortal, speaking with ease and laughter - because his image couldn’t be imprinted by ordinary magic, Zheng Qing had always imagined the president as a jovial and kind-hearted old man smiling gently.

But reality was reality after all.

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but take a closer look at the most authoritative figure of the First University.

The Nameless has been the President of the First University for a long time.

So long that since the establishment of the university, there has not been a second president apart from him - of course, according to different calculation methods, different schools have different sayings about the establishment time, but by the timeline accepted by all schools, the Nameless has been in office as president for more than sixty years.

Sixty years, a complete cycle in the traditional Chinese calendar.

In the mortal world, this period of time would be enough to turn a person from a child with yellow hair into an old man with white hair and stooped back.

But the Nameless president had always remained the same, never changing.

For a period of time before enrolling, Zheng Qing was very interested in the various aspects of the First University, including the president of the First University, and he reviewed many documents.

The more he looked, the more perplexed he became.

Not to mention that in all the documents, this President had no name - all the documents referred to him directly as ’President’ when describing him - just the history before he took up the presidency of the First University was somewhat elusive and indistinct.

One thing was certain, that he had lived a long time before taking up the presidency.

As for how long, Zheng Qing never managed to figure it out.

However, when he found in some obscure historical record that the Nameless Principal had once accepted three thousand disciples two thousand years ago, he gave up the desire to continue probing further.

It seems rather inhuman.

Compared with his seniority, the actual magical prowess of the Nameless Principal was another mystery.

The reliable accounts about the Principal in history usually involve stories of wind, flowers, snow, and moon, him playing with literature, or disciplining disciples. There was never any story like Emperor Qin suppressed ancient demons in a fit of rage, or how Augustus slayed giant dragons while being bathed in blood.

Consequently, it was circulated in many unofficial accounts that apart from living for a long time, the Nameless Principal does not possess any powerful magical abilities.

However, no wizard has ever been able to verify these rumors.

Because before they even confront the Nameless Principal, they first need to get past the senior wizards of the university.

For instance, the two current vice principals, Lady Shi Hui and Master RuoYu.

Since the establishment of the school, nearly all well-known conflicts regarding the university were resolved by the vice principals.

Vice Principal Ruoyu oversees the school work committee.

Although he is known as a master, he is not a bald-headed monk who dons a cassock. On the contrary, this master is a short, skinny old man.

No student knew why he is referred to as a master, many senior students maliciously surmised that perhaps it was because this little old man was a master at playing pranks – he never endeavored to be liked by the students.

Usually, he would wear a long, heavy black robe that stretched almost to his feet, half of his head hidden behind a fluffy collar, revealing only a pair of squinted eyes resembling those of a cockroach.

The large, heavy boots on his feet appeared to be really light. He supported himself on a metal walking stick topped with a silver wolf’s head, showing up like a phantom in every corner of the school, often silently standing at the back of classrooms, watching those students who violate school rules or classroom discipline, then letting the school work committee deliver a bright red disciplinary notice at the end of the month.

Compared to him, Lady Shi Hui was somewhat more popular.

She is the Academic Dean of the university and is responsible for presiding over the teachers’ joint meetings.

Unlike the school work committee, the members of the teachers’ joint meetings are all incumbent professors, lecturers, and teaching assistants. They are the most powerful mages in the school and the most stable pillar of the school. Their positions are esteemed, aside from teaching, doing research and experiments, the teachers’ joint meetings rarely interfere with the school’s daily affairs.

Therefore, for most students, Lady Shi Hui is a powerful wizard who is respected for her lofty actions, and while her name is widespread, her actions have not harmed anyone.

The gaze of the young scholarship student didn’t linger long on Vice Principal Shi Hui.

But just a brief glance was enough for him to know that she was a capable woman.

Everyone would arrive at this conclusion.

No matter her succinct straight hairdo, her clean and tidy dress, or even her thin lips drawn into a straight line, everything about her seemed so simple, direct, as if a thread was carefully coiled and bundled according to a precise pattern.

Her reputation was also good, known for her fairness, decisiveness, and was praised by the young teaching assistants.

If Master Ruoyu was said to be like a cockroach, the whereabouts of which students are uncertain of, feeling nauseated and frightened upon seeing, and just couldn’t exterminate.

Then Lady Shi Hui was like a short blade, straightforward, sharp, matchless, clear, and evident.

Unlike the Nameless Principal, the vice principals of the university have gone several rounds already.

The retired vice principals usually carry on with some honorary title, continuing to shine bright in the teachers’ joint meetings. Participating in the school ceremonies, giving work suggestions, guiding the experimental work of the young wizards, and then dozing off during the long meetings.

For instance, during today’s beginning of term ceremony.

Standing behind the three principals were the retired vice principals and several deans of colleges.

These sparse figures, along with other professors, stood quietly behind the Nameless Principal, setting off his already tall and broad figure to look even more magnificent.
