High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 311: Chapter 235: The Professor is Really Angry _1

”Every spell has its own grammar, formula, unique structure and pronunciation rules, with different invocation taboos.”

”For instance, casting the ’Scenery Blessings, Brightness’ spell requires bathing, fasting, and prayer that lasts seven to forty-nine days. Then there are spells from the Taoist Gate that, if you want to put into use, require the abstention from killing, thievery, and lying. And the curses handed down by the Gu Masters require one to draw power from killing, tormenting, and suffering.”

”Countless paradoxes and clashes seriously hindered the inheritance and advancement of ancient magic knowledge... until the birth of the modern wizardry schools.”

”These include but are not limited to the Nine Existences School, Alpha School, Dimension School, Heart Learning, and many New Schools. The world of wizards has finally broken free from the shackles of ancient knowledge due to the continuous development and improvements of these many modern wizardry schools, tapping into the pulse of modern witchcraft.”

”The most significant achievement would be the creation of the Law Book.”

”Through complex magic theories such as multi-dimensional resonance and causal intermediation, wizards use the Law Book to reconcile the contradictions and conflicts between spells from different factions, eventually being able to cast most of the known spells, ignoring many taboos.”

Professor Yao stood on the podium, gesticulating with his pipe, expounding eloquently.

Many people were busy writing vigorously, fearful of missing any key points mentioned by the professor.

Meanwhile, Zheng Qing was staring intently at his writing brush, watching it cheerfully frolic across his notebook. Occasionally when the ink dried up, it would automatically jump into the inkstone to soak and roll about.

This shorthand trick was taught to him by Xiao Xiao—a kind of quirky minor-spell that was very popular among young wizards at the First University. Skilful students could even simultaneously command seven or eight pens to do different assignments.

Professors didn’t mind young people using these convenient and quick methods to keep up with their lecture pace, as long as they didn’t try to outsmart their exams.”

”There’s no need for hand seals, hand signs, nor the need to foolishly wave around a wood stick, let alone the need to snap a rooster’s neck or tear out a black dog’s heart, then cut open your hand over boiling water while chanting unintelligible songs.”

”All you need is to copy the spell into the Law Book in the correct way as requested in the textbook.”

”When using it, just recite them with the standard tone... some might feel shy, so muttering is completely fine too, although it may reduce the potency of the spell slightly.”

”Is there a more relaxed way of casting spells?”

With that, Professor Yao lifted his dark red, soft leather Law Book and shook it vigorously in mid-air.

The pages crashed against each other, creating a rustling sound.

An obscure, heavy energy fluctuated faintly between the pages, cast in the glow of radiant five-coloured rays.

All the students in the classroom were nervously watching that book, shaking their heads frantically, fearing the professor might accidentally blow up the building.

”I’ve heard that the Shangyuan Bookstore has been promoting ’Keu An Reimos’s Law Book’ in recent years. They are even branding spells like ’Five Aggregates Exorcism Spell’ on the front page of the soft leather Law Book, carving ’Heart-frightening Soul-shaking Curse’ on the hard shell books, and even forging scroll cases of Han cloth books into weapons directly. When a wild demon or an evil spirit is seen, they would just smack it with a stick... smack it to death.”

At this point, the professor became quite excited and slammed the Law Book onto the lectern saying:

”Some people say that wizards who have not mastered their spells do not have to worry... they just need to work harder in duel class, learning how to hurl bricks or swing sticks...what do you say? Does it make sense?”

Although everyone was somewhat confused by this statement, they all felt obliged to humour the professor’s joke.

Everyone nodding in agreement, stating it was indeed reasonable.

While nodding, Zheng Qing tilted his head toward Xiao Xiao and whispered, ”What is Keu An Reimos’s Law Book? It sounds like a series... a rather brutal series?”

”Keu An Reimos means foolish. You can understand the Law Book of this series as the ’Dummies Law Book’. It means you can perform certain fixed spells without transcribing the spells onto the Law Book.” Xiao Xiao responded contemptuously, ”Totally the wrong end of the stick behaviour.”

Zheng Qing turned his head abruptly to the podium.

Sure enough, Professor Yao was grimacing, vehemently tapping his pipe on the podium.

Fire-red sparks peeped through the thin smoke, reminding one of a sneezing fire dragon.”

”Who nodded? Who dares to nod!”

Professor Yao’s face became long, his pair of pitch-black eyes radiating a terrifying color:

”Who dares not to recite the spell, using the law book in your hands to hurt others, once I get to know, your annual credits will be deducted entirely!”

”You’ve really crossed the line.”

”Don’t you know what class this is? Huh? I just tried... Are you so unsure about magic spells?”

The classroom went totally quiet, everyone obediently shut their mouths as the professor erupted.

Zheng Qing silently gave a dry laugh twice, lowered his head, and focused on the brass pattern embedded in his law book and the leather buckle.

The buckle was still jade, he blinked, carefully thinking.

The little elves on the edge of the blackboard were very knowledgeable about dealing with angry professors. They quickly flew out of the classroom and soon brought hot cups of tea to the professor.

Professor Yao had three cups of tea in a row, and the anger on his face dissipated quite a bit.

”To master magic spells, you must understand the law book and be able to use it properly.”

”And to use the law book, you must proficiently master the various knowledge of magic text, talisman, and divination in class.”

”Therefore, as your tutor, I am emphasizing once again here.”

”In my class, all -- I mean all courses -- can’t fail!”

Saying that, the professor’s gaze slid over the corner of the classroom.

Nicholas’s arm, which was originally turning the book, stiffened for a moment, but quickly moved again as if nothing had happened.

”One wrong step leads to all wrong steps, blink your eyes, and it might become a far-off dream... if you don’t work hard, maybe at our class’s centenary celebration, there will be a few more ashes... or a few more skeletons who can’t eat human food!”

”Would you like that?”

”We won’t!” The classroom immediately echoed with a neat and loud answer.

”Matthew can’t eat human food anyway.” Fat man Xin turned his head, showing a sly smile on his face.

”He also doesn’t need to worry about turning into a handful of loess a hundred years from now,” Zheng Qing enviously smacked his lips: ”I really think vampires are very unscientific creatures...”

”In the magical world, what are you talking about science!” Zhang Ji Xin chuckled: ”Vampires indeed don’t need to worry about turning into a handful of loess... because they turn into ashes when they die.”

Professor Yao didn’t care about the quiet private conversation among a few boys at the back of the classroom.

Perhaps because the previous speech was a bit passionate, so he decided to take a break—like flipping through the homework just collected by Tang Dun.

After turning a few pages, the professor’s face dropped again.

”Whose homework is this?”

Old Yao broke the silence in the classroom again, weighing a wrinkle-filled piece of mulberry paper with two fingers, his eyebrows raised high: ”The last homework of this month, you guys give me this kind .... this kind of crumpled paper?”

Zheng Qing saw that familiar piece of mulberry paper, and the small, passable dark red mark on the paper, he couldn’t help but exhale deeply.

”You’re doomed,” he muttered, quietly kicking Fat man Xin in front of him, his tone filled with schadenfreude. ”Looks like the professor is angry!”
