High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 306: Chapter 230 Reality is Cruel_1

Even though the gift was already purchased, trying to present the gift was still a very demanding task.

Since he had patrol duty on Saturday night, Zheng Qing planned to give the gift to the Gypsy witch during the Talisman Studies tutoring session for Elena tomorrow.

Upon returning to the dorm from the Pedestrian Street, he couldn’t wait to rest. He spread out his letter paper and enthusiastically arranged the tutoring time and content with Elena.

The blue paper crane took away his sweet hopes, but brought back endless disappointment.

The Gypsy witch said she needed to pray on Sunday and, very regretfully, hoped to reschedule the tutoring time when she had free time next time.

”If my comprehension is not mistaken, she is saying no.” Xin Fat Man was stroking the Orange Cat, leisurely leaning against the wall, and cruelly revealed a fact: ”Young man, you got dumped.”.

Tuan Tuan laid on Fat Man’s lap, comfortably snoring.

”Life, how unpredictable it is.” Dylan also shouted from inside his coffin: ”Some things, even before they start, are already over.”

Zheng Qing glared at the two fellows, opened his mouth, but could only close it dejectedly in the end.

Although the words were crude and sharp, Fat Man seemed right.

”From my fifteen hundred years of life experience, at this time you need a few pounds of Amber Light.” The Werewolf Mister was leaning on the edge of the coffin, falling his head, and showing off his terrible memory again.

”A few days ago, you were eighteen hundred years old.” Zheng Qing mumbled, finally finding a point to refute.

On the other side of the desk, Doctor Xiao did not get involved in Zheng Qing’s emotional dispute.

Compared with this nutrient-free matter, he was more interested in the little elves who were still responsive after taking the medicine.

Perhaps because they had just received treatment not long ago, the little elves were still drowsy, lying horizontally and vertically in the paper house, looking very fatigued.

”Have they been redeemed?” Xiao Xiao held a little elf and carefully observed her condition. He nudged Zheng Qing with his arm and asked, ”I mean, do they have any follow-up treatment plans? Or did Doctor Du Zemu rebind a magical contract for you guys?”

”No new contract was bound.” Zheng Qing pulled himself together and said weakly: ”They are just temporarily okay... According to the doctor, this treatment will extend their lifespan by about three months. I still need to record their medical data every day... If there are no abnormalities, there is no need to go to the Abnormal Life Research Institute for the time being.”

”What do they eat then?” Fat Man finally opened his eyes and grumbled: ”You always have to eat something to live...”

”Elves can take in magic energy freely from the air to keep life,” before Zheng Qing could answer, it was Xiao Xiao who started explaining: ”This is imprinted on their basic alchemy formation.”

As he spoke, he put the little elf in his hand in the paper house on the desk and incidentally helped the other little elves reposition their sleeping postures.

This paper house is a break room built by the witches of Astronomy Class 08-1 for the little elves. Inside, there are not only tables, chairs and large beds, but also hang silk damask on the bare walls all around. Even those soft mattresses are full of velvets.

”What I’m more curious about is that Sand Time King Juice really worked on the little elves.” Xiao Xiao, with a serious face, grabbed his notebook, pulled out a brush from his sleeve, licked it, and while his pen was flying, he spoke quickly: ”You should put more attention on your little elves... Maybe you should write a paper as soon as possible, I can help you collect data, remember to list me as the second author.”

”Paper?” Zheng Qing was a little dumbfounded.

”’On the Interaction and New Effects of Sand Time King Juice and Alchemy Products’, or ’Philosophical Investigation of the Relationship Between Magical Alchemy Products and Magical Life’.” Doctor Xiao rattled off two extremely convoluted names immediately, confusing the others even more.

”What, what, what?” Xin Fat Man’s round face wrinkled into a ball, shouting loudly: ”Can you speak human language!”

The Orange Cat yawned, yelled, as if supporting Fat Man’s viewpoint.

Zheng Qing was still looking at the man with glasses bewildered.

”That is to say, you can write a thesis from two perspectives.” Xiao Xiao put down her pen, explaining patiently, ”You can choose to explore the new effects of Sand Hour King Juice, its impact on alchemical life is a very interesting discovery; you could also try discussing whether elves, like fishmen and other magical creatures, can possess a real ’magical life identity’. After all, according to previous arguments, Sand Hour King Juice can only affect ’real life’.”

”This could be promising!” Dylan struggled up from his coffin, pushed aside the curtain and said, ”Remember, Andrew Sholof of Manchester got his ticket to the Applied Magic Research Institute because of his discovery about dragon blood enhancing alchemical life... He even won a Bronze Merlin Medal from the Wizard’s Alliance.”

”That’s generally the idea.” Xiao Xiao reluctantly agreed with the half-blood’s viewpoint.

”You mean, fighting for the elves’ legitimate rights to live?” Zheng Qing’s eyes started to gleam, ”Not just disposable alchemy products!”

”Hey, hey, hey, don’t just extend my point willy-nilly...” Doctor Xiao’s face immediately fell, ”Fighting for rights and so on, that’s the work of social activists. We are researchers, exploring the reality behind phenomena... Don’t just add to your workload!”

”Not just me, us!” Zheng Qing nodded vigorously, placing a hand on Xiao Xiao’s notebook, speaking firmly, ”You just said it, you want to be the second author... I already agreed.”

”Excuse me, we’re not talking about the same thing.” Xiao Xiao tried to pull her notebook away, without success, and could only say helplessly, ”Wanting to change the Wizard’s Code isn’t something a single paper or two could accomplish... Do you know about the tricksters in the North District of Beta Town?”

Zheng Qing nodded.

It was a famously seedy area, home to many dangerous, unaccomplished wizards. Lower-grade students at school were even advised by their seniors to stay away from it.

”Tricksters are still people! But fifty years ago, even kappa looked down on them... Many wizards directly used them as tools, experiment materials... They couldn’t attend the Wizard’s General Meeting, couldn’t officially work in any of the Wizard Alliance’s institutions, and their children couldn’t even take the wizard examination.”

”I think the Nicolas family is located in the North District of Beta Town,” Zheng Qing mentioned hesitantly.

”Correct.” Xiao Xiao forcefully pulled out her notebook and held it tight, ”How do you think they changed the opinion of the Wizard Alliance and the Wizard’s Code?”

”Protest in the newspaper?” Zheng Qing guessed timidly, ”Or demonstrations...”

”The great wizards have a hundred ways to shut them up and have them crawl back to their leaky sheds.” Xiao Xiao shook her head, her expression becoming very serious, ”Fifty years ago, the tricksters sacrificed nearly half their lives, men, women, and even the elderly, in the war between the wizards and demons, in order to attain full wizard status in the Wizard’s Code. The Wizard Alliance paid tribute to their actions during the postwar summary, lowering their flag in their honor.”

”That’s how they started getting respect from the wizards.”

”No struggle is built on a foundation without sacrifices.”

”Do your little elves have the determination to do this? Or can you ’represent’ them and make this decision?”

Zheng Qing fell silent.

He sadly looked at the sleeping elves in the paper house, and sighed deeply - not to mention representing them, he had barely spoken with the elves properly himself.

Beyond Hehe’s call, Zheng Qing could only vaguely feel their most direct emotions.

”Maybe you’re right. But there are things, if you don’t do it, I don’t do it, he doesn’t do it... it’s not fair to them.” The young scholarship student stubbornly lifted his head, looking at his roommates, ”I don’t expect to be able to change anything... I just hope that in the future, I won’t regret being hesitant now.”

”Brother Qing makes a lot of sense.” Xin Fat Man sat up, waving his sturdy arms and shouting loudly, ”Maybe we just need to start, and the wheels of history will crush the obstacles in front of us!”

”Damn, that’s hard,” Dylan wrinkled his nose, looking at his pointed teeth in the little mirror, ”That’s very difficult.”

”If you’re that determined, go ahead and ask Elena out first.” Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses, speaking softly.

”I just hope that one day in the future, I won’t regret being hesitant now...” Xin Fat Man held Tuan Tuan up in front of his eyes, waving its front legs, imitating Zheng Qing’s words with a high-pitched voice.

”Roar!” The orange cat slapped Xin in the face, refusing his playful action.

Zheng Qing opened his mouth, speechless.
