High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 342: Chapter 11 Danghag_1

An asterisk was placed before the last question on the survey form, symbolizing that it was a question that must be answered.

’Do you agree to journey to Danghag when necessary, to contribute your part for the cause of equality and justice.’

’Yes’ ’No’

Zheng Qing bit his pen, hesitated momentarily, then quickly ticked ’Yes’.

Danghag is where the supreme court of the Wizard Covenant is located, often used in the universally accepted language of the magical world to refer to the supreme court. Just as wizards refer to the top university as ’Buji Island,’ and to the long dormant sea demon king as ’Mariana’.

The implied meaning of the last question, the elder janitor by his side had pointed out not long ago - the testimony of a witness could be presented as evidence in the supreme court.

The young sponsored student did not fully understand the concept of court testimonies, and did not pay much attention to this selection.

He simply chose what he thought was the ’right’ answer in terms of morality.

Compared to this, he was more concerned about another matter.

”How about my headache?” When returning the ’Special Talent Level Table’, Zheng Qing looked anxiously at the professor and asked in a low voice: ”Do all witnesses get headaches? How do they typically deal with it?”

”This is a complex question.” Old Yao chewed on his pipe, his voice somewhat muffled: ”Becoming a witness only indicates that your psychic field is within an irregular cycle and your spirit is in a sub-healthy state, but it does not necessarily mean you will have headaches... it could also lead to symptoms of excessive sleepiness, mania, or other side effects.”

”A headache is just one type of side effect, you don’t need to worry. This is the first university, we’ve dealt with similar symptoms in hundreds, if not thousands of cases.”

Zheng Qing managed a stiff smile.

Seeming to notice the young wizard’s uneasiness, the old janitor next to him added: ”Before you woke up, Dean Yao and I have discussed a few more reliable ideas...”

”But it’s not decided yet.” Dean Yao interrupted the janitor, raising his voice slightly: ”Later I’ll meet with Professor Yi to further sort out these ideas. After all, he is a professional diviner with more experience in these matters... You can go back to your dormitory first... Right, no later than this weekend’s regular meeting, I’ll discuss the subsequent treatment with you.”

Zheng Qing was slightly encouraged and quickly nodded.

”Don’t rush to leave.” The old janitor pulled out a stack of papers from his robe and waved them in front of Zheng Qing: ”If you don’t mind, you can describe the scene you just witnessed... The janitor committee would very much like to make a simple backup.”

The pipe in the corner of Dean Yao’s mouth twitched higher, but in the end, he didn’t stop the janitor, just blew out a large puff of green smoke.

Zheng Qing’s shoulders slumped in resignation.

”Is there anything else, sir?” His tone was slightly rude: ”I mean, if there are any other forms, I could fill them all out at once.”

”This is the last one.” The old janitor laughed, tapping on the professor’s desk: ”And you don’t need to fill it out, just answer my questions.”

Zheng Qing seemed to realize his previous rudeness and awkwardly lowered his head.

A green peacock-feather pen leapt out from the pen holder, happily landing on the blank draft paper, even provocatively twitching its tail feathers.

Dean Yao shook his head, leaned back slightly, and folded his arms.

Across the large desk, all Zheng Qing could see was green smoke wafting from the pipe, accumulating above Dean Yao’s head, as if adorning him with a straw hat.

”We can start now.” The corner of the old janitor’s mouth twitched, trying to show a kind smile: ”Don’t worry, just speak whatever comes to mind... We will not be harsh on untrained ’witnesses’... I remember you mentioned earlier that the incident you dreamed about was related to school safety? Can you recall when it happened?”

”It should have been at night, there was a moon.” Zheng Qing furrowed his brows, slowly beginning to recall the shattered fragments remaining in his mind.

”Can you recall where it happened?”

”I remember the environment in the dream was very damp, there were sounds of water... maybe near the Lin Zhong Lake?”

”What about related figures? Any images or figures in your memory will do.”

Zheng Qing’s eyes gradually widened. ”A cat! ... A little white cat! ... A little white cat! I remember now!”

He stood up in a panic, waved his arms violently, and shouted, ”It was the kitten that died by Lin Zhong Lake, the small cat that Jiang Yu took in... the kitten whose eyes were gouged out!”

Old Yao and the gray-robed janitor subtly exchanged glances, but did not interrupt Zheng Qing’s narrative.

”I remember it was playing by the lake at that time... Then I fell? No... I felt very cold, as if a chilly wind was freezing my internal organs...”

”Then it died... But I remember its eyes weren’t gouged out.”

Zheng Qing’s fingers were entwined as he mumbled and paced anxiously around the office, trying his best to recall the previous dream.

But the more he thought about it, the emptier his mind became:

”... Huh, it’s weird. I remembered it clearly just now...”

”There should be a witch? No... Maybe a wizard... Very white... Looks very pale?”

He hit his own head hard, but couldn’t recall anything useful.

”Don’t rush, don’t worry.” The professor comforted him, holding his pipe in his hand, ”The information we have is already sufficient...”

”Am I useless?” Zheng Qing’s voice sounded very dejected: ”The truth is just within reach... and I threw it away.”

”As a newcomer, you have performed exceptionally,” Old Yao reassured him gently, ”This is your first real contact with a ’crime scene’, so it’s natural to be a little uncomfortable... Every newcomer is like this. In fact, precisely because our brains can easily distinguish dreams from reality, they indiscriminately wipe away those seemingly unreal memories.”

”When you get used to ’crime scenes’, you may bring us even more useful information.”

...

...

As Zheng Qing followed Old Yao out of the office, he was still struggling with what had just happened.

His mind was a mess, sometimes thinking about the cute kitten, then Jiang Yu with red eyes, then Elena, and then that skirt.

He shook his head vigorously, trying to refocus his thoughts.

The terms ”witness” and ”crime scene” mentioned by the professor this evening, if he thought carefully, had some clues in the past.

Since he was very young, he often felt familiar when doing certain things, as if he had done them before. Baidu told him this phenomenon was called ’deja vu’, a common feeling among many people. Therefore, he had never explored it further.

Looking back, this feeling might have come from scenes he had witnessed before, and going through them again gave him that familiar feeling.

”Hang onto your copper coin,” Old Yao suddenly turned around and reminded him, ”For others, it may just be a medium, replaceable at any time. But for diviners like you with special talents, each medium is very precious. Perhaps if you lose this medium, you won’t be able to find a replacement.”

Zheng Qing clenched his copper coin and nodded nervously.

Maybe he should go back and find a sturdy red string to hang around his neck, he thought privately.

”Don’t be too nervous. Sometimes the more careful you are, the easier it is to lose things. This is a common paradox in the magic world.” Old Yao patted his head, laughed heartily, and bid the young wizard farewell at the office building’s door.

Zheng Qing touched his head, and the image of the dead kitten suddenly appeared in his mind. The smile on his lips quickly faded, and he headed back to the dormitory with a furrowed brow.
