Chapter 305: Chapter 229: If Life Deceives You_1

If life has deceived you

Don’t be sad

Don’t be impatient

You can get angry, furious, go crazy, and even explode.

Everything is fleeting

Everything will pass

If worst comes to worst, hang ’life’ up and beat it to a pulp.

In Zheng Qing’s anticipation, if Jiang Yu discovered she had been deceived, she might simply turn and leave, or she might toss the album at his face before walking away. However, as a witch, she might pull out a law book and cast a severe punishment upon us, the scholarship students, then leave gracefully.

Regardless of the choice, Zheng Qing felt he deserved it.

However, the situation she had anticipated did not happen.

Jiang Yu was still holding the heavy album, patiently picking out suitable clothes for Elena, her face slightly unchanging, with no signs of leaving altogether.

While this was a relief to him, he felt a growing unease.

A volcano in eruption is not to be feared. People can escape before the lava flows, distancing themselves from nature’s threat; but silent active volcanoes make one apprehensive, for you never know if you might be buried beneath thick volcanic ash in your sleep.

”How about this one?” The witch’s voice interrupted the young scholar’s thoughts.

Zheng Qing noticed that her tone was slightly colder than before.

”It looks familiar.” Zheng Qing looked at the dark red dress floating above the album, hesitating, ”I remember she’s worn this type of dress before.”

”Right... your memory is pretty clear.” Jiang Yu hummed lightly, quickly flipping a few pages and pointing to the type entry of the dress, she said swiftly, ”This is a Bohemian dress, a traditional dress of the Gypsies... Since you don’t know anything, then I guess you’ll just have to choose the most appropriate style for her.”

Zheng Qing blinked and nodded repeatedly.

The witch’s words sounded very reasonable.

”This is Green Xifang’s hot autumn product, a Korean-style sleeveless chiffon pleated skirt.”

”The fabric is the popular magnolia silk, with a retro color and meticulous craftsmanship. The garment seam is embroidered with a Refreshing Spell using golden silk thread, allowing the wearer to maintain skin moisture even in the dry autumn... Also, a Cleaning Rune has been attached on the skirt hem, causing mud and insects that fall on it to be automatically expelled.”

”The color of the shirt is slightly dark, with a burgundy neckline and cuffs that match her hair color very well... The reddish skirt is slightly deeper than her hair color, which can highlight her dazzling temperament... Besides, the colorful tassels on the belt are inspired by the story of ancient wizards warding off evil with knotted ropes.”

”Moreover, if you choose this skirt, I suggest you also purchase the box of pearls next to it... A qualified Gypsy witch always strings herself the most fitting ornament.”

Zheng Qing looked towards the corner of the album following her finger, in a brown wooden tube there were lipstick-colored pearls the size of beans.

He swallowed, carefully checking the price of the box of pearls.

Nine beans and seven corners.

Great, it’s within one jade coin.

Green Xifang didn’t tamper with these pearls, so the price is still within Zheng Qing’s affordability range.

Just as he was about to nod his head in agreement, Jiang Yu threw the album in her hand into the air.

”Huh?” The young scholarship student was dumbfounded.

”Before you agree,” the witch turned her head to look at Zheng Qing, flicked her long hair, and hummed, ”at least let those clothes be worn and strutted... What, do you have any objections?”

Zheng Qing chuckled dryly, shaking his head vigorously.

He absolutely couldn’t admit the slightly dark thoughts that had just emerged in his mind.

Two elves swooped from not far away, grabbed the album that had flown to mid-air, chirping, and fell behind the curtain.

”It’ll take a few more minutes. You can have some tea first, take a break.” Suddenly, a shiny knife appeared between Jiang Yu’s fingers, then under Zheng Qing’s frightened gaze, she bent her head and took out a block of wood from her bag, stabbing into it with the knife.

”What is this?” Zheng Qing was holding his breath, taking a cup from the coffee table, and moisturizing his dry throat.

”It’s homework for engraving class.” Without raising her head, the witch answered gloomily as the knife moved slightly and between her fingers fell a flutter of wood chips.

”...”

”Thank you very much for today.” Zheng Qing took another sip of his tea.

He swirled the teacup in his hand, the amber liquid rolling into a vortex, stirring up the few tea leaves at the bottom into a frenzy.

When the leaves ceased their turbulence and slowly sank to the bottom, overlapping and connecting end to end, they formed a ring, similar to an ouroboros.

Zheng Qing stared for a moment before tilting back his head and downing the tea, leaves and all, in one go.

”Actually, I’m a bit curious.” Jiang Yu’s sudden remark startled Zheng Qing, causing him to choke on his tea.

The witch looked up in confusion, only to see the young cost student waving his hand to assure her he was okay.

So she continued, ”I’m curious why you chose clothes as a gift... As a girl, I think this kind of gift requires a lot of thought.”

”I didn’t know what gift to give...” Zheng Qing chewed the residual tea leaves, gulped them down, and replied honestly: ”The prices of the Shepherdess’s jewelry are a little too high for me... I don’t really understand makeup products; I also haven’t seen other wizards giving flowers as gifts, and I didn’t know if the Gypsy flower language was any different from ours... If you hadn’t helped me pick clothes, I would have almost bought a Pandora’s Magic Box from Apple Pavilion.”

Jiang Yu finally let go of her stiff expression, her face betraying a suppressed smirk.

”You could have bought her a small pet,” the witch laughed lightly, ”A kitten, a puppy, a bird... If you want less hassle, a small turtle or a hamster would be a great choice.”

Zheng Qing’s eyes widened instantly.

”I should have asked you earlier...” He grumbled, scratching his head and heaving a sigh, ”I really am not suited to pick out gifts... Actually, I even considered the candy house on Pedestrian Street and planned to buy her a box of Bohemian Cavalry.”

The witch finally couldn’t hold it in, she covered her mouth and laughed heartily.

After a few minutes, a model dressed in a red dress came onto the stage, twirling around once.

The dress fluttered, swaying gracefully, jingling as she moved.

”Isn’t this dress a bit...” Zheng Qing hesitated, trying to find an appropriate word.

”Flashy?” Jiang Yu laughed, ”Doesn’t it perfectly suit her style? I think she’s the most vibrant girl in the entire Jiuyou Academy.”

”Indeed, she is.” Zheng Qing concurred, holding his empty teacup.

The elves flew down with the catalogue, once again landing on the witch’s shoulder.

Jiang Yu put away her engraving knife and wooden piece, and picked up the catalogue again.

”We can take this one,” Zheng Qing blurted out, ”There’s no need to trouble you further...”

”One last thing.” Jiang Yu, fighting hard to suppress her laughter, opened the catalogue and handed it to Zheng Qing, ”A complete set of clothes, including underwear.”

Zheng Qing stared at the vivid corset in the catalogue; his hand trembled, dropping the catalogue and his teacup onto the floor.

”Ha-ha-ha-ha!” The monitor sitting opposite him was laughing uncontrollably, slapping the table.

”We’re both being a bit rude today.” Zheng Qing begrudgingly smiled as he picked up the catalogue and the teacup.

...

When it came time to pay the bill, Jiang Yu continued to tease Zheng Qing about the awkwardness of his previous lies and his embarrassment when he dropped the catalogue.

”Cost student, you get a 10% discount.” The elderly woman at the counter was flipping her abacus, her voice clearly reaching the two young wizards’ ears, ”Aren’t you taking a photo?”

The dress had been carefully folded and placed in a brown paper bag.

Next to the bag was a small wooden box containing those rose-colored pearls.

”A photo?” Zheng Qing was in the middle of stuffing the wooden box into a gray cloth bag when he heard her. He paused and glanced nervously at the witch beside him.

”What, you really want me to give you a kiss!” Jiang Yu crossed her arms and gave the young cost student a sidelong glance. Her lips twitched.

”No, no! Ha-ha-ha-ha...” Zheng Qing scratched his head, laughing awkwardly, his face turning beet red, ”I just didn’t remember what she meant by the photo... Ah, ha-ha-ha-ha...”

He quickly pulled out his student card from his pocket, slapped it on the table, and tried to speak in a calm voice, ”I’m already quite satisfied with the 10% discount...10% is okay...10% is already very good, very good.”

The old woman raised an eyebrow but ultimately said nothing else.

Zheng Qing let out a long sigh of relief.
