Chapter 1339: Chapter 573: Laine, the Popular Choice_2

”Isn’t that right?” The White Wolf Prince-Elector, Boris Todbringer, is deeply engrossed in eating and drinking; this Imperial Prince-Elector embodies all the qualities of the Midlanders, both good and bad.

What defines a Midlander?

The one who complains the most, grumbles incessantly, is the first to the table, and eats the most.

Midlanders are always stubborn and resistant to change. To this day, they refuse to use foreign goods and words. Under Yurik’s influence, people here emphasize tradition extremely, which is why the Dwarves converse best with them.

”Isn’t that so? Boris! My Prince-Elector, are you not a bit ashamed?” Marshal Rick, Kurt Heilberg, expressed his dissatisfaction, opening his mouth, speaking thoughtlessly: ”You’ve made us miss out on a Holy Sanctuary Holy Grail Knight. Do you realize how many troubles could be resolved if our empire had someone as powerful as Laine?”

”Oh, is that so?” Boris Prince-Elector, upon hearing Rick Marshal’s words, finally lifted his head from the plate. In his sole eye’s pupil, Heilberg’s face was reflected: ”Do you think if he stayed in Nord or went to White Wolf City, he could also mature into a Holy Sanctuary Holy Grail Knight? Heilberg, better use your intelligence on combat! Or do you feel the position assigned by His Majesty the Emperor is demeaning? Should you be the Master of Seals in the Rick Council?”

”Tal’s teeth!” Heilberg was clearly angered by Boris Prince-Elector’s words, cursed, and said: ”What I said is not related to what you answered!”

Rick Marshal wanted to say more, but the Emperor reached out to interrupt Heilberg’s cursing. Carl Franz smiled and said to Boris: ”Tradition is a powerful force.”

”Mm-hmm~” Boris Prince-Elector picked up his fork again, stabbed a whole greasy pig trotter hock, and stuffed it into his mouth: ”That’s right, tradition is a powerful force. In any way, Heilberg, this fool hasn’t spent time with the White Wolf Knight Order.”

”So discussing this further has no meaning.” The Emperor gripped the knife and fork in his hand: ”What we need to discuss now is, what shall we do? What should we do?”

”The kid never experienced the beatings of society and actually became a Duke after ten years across the mountain.” Justice Church Archbishop Vikma the Resolute nodded: ”This indicates that besides Martial Valor, he truly is a highly capable person. Given the political situation in the kingdom across the mountain, Carl, you and your Courtiers Corps have discussed it multiple times already. Achieving a breakthrough in such circumstances, his ability is without question. The current issue is, what do you plan to do?”

”Our Majesty needs an answer, not a question, Justice Archbishop, how can you respond to a question with a question?” Boris Todbringer said impatiently: ”If you invited me for a meal just to indulge in nonsense here, I’m quite delighted. I enjoy free dinners!”

”Hehehe~” Emperor Carl Franz laughed helplessly.

Boris Todbringer nearly became the ”Wolf Emperor,” but Carl Franz ultimately won thrillingly, leaving the dissatisfied Boris Prince-Elector often expressing discontent publicly against the Emperor. Due to the conflict between the Northern Sect and Southern Sect, Boris’s attitude intensified the north-south tensions, and this Prince-Elector even considered Carl Franz as the puppet Emperor of the Southern Sect.

Nevertheless, the Emperor needs Boris and the forces behind him, including the White Wolf Knight Order and White Wolf Sect. What he can do is involve Boris in major decisions, making him feel he isn’t being excluded from the decision-making circle.

At this moment, the Griffin Duke spoke, Ivan Ferdinand, now a centenarian veteran, though visually still appearing only as a thirty-something strong man: ”Laine, his personality is quite complex. During the years when I served as his Godfather, I noticed his unique ability to adapt within rules, a benevolent approach inside the system.”

”Adaptation within rules and benevolence inside the system?” Emperor Carl Franz pondered carefully, then suddenly asked Boris: ”Is his foster father, Norman, still in White Wolf City now?”

”Yes, Norman is now instructing in Middenheim, but you know, Franz, Laine never inherited the Lordship of Autene, so his foster father... it’s just that.” Boris Todbringer nodded, speaking roughly as the Prince-Elector: ”What do you plan to do?”

”Nothing.” The Emperor shook his head, as Boris mentioned, noble lineage concerns inheritance and genealogy, not nurturing.

”Laine’s personality has an adaptable side with large ambitions, yet he abides by principles. His actions are undoubtedly bound by the Knightly Path, but when he deems it necessary, he always finds a reason to bypass the Knightly Path’s constraints.” Ivan stroked his long beard: ”Facing enemies, Laine has a benevolent side. If the opponent could be spared, he usually leans toward leaving them a path, but once associated with evil, Laine is the most resolute in seeing to it that evil must be eliminated, the main offender punished, accomplices interrogated, and errs not allowed to escape.”

”Laine consistently advocates resolving human internal conflicts internally, quarrels being quarrels, but once facing foreign invasion, human compatriots must put aside their prejudices and unite against external foes.” The Great Alchemist Biersaze Gaert spoke, having removed his golden mask while dining, revealing a stiff, cold, ordinary face: ”I think I have a detail to inform everyone.”
