Chapter 1306: Chapter 560: Strategies for Siege

The oppressive heat of July in Musillon was unbearable, the scorching sun illuminated the land, and fierce winds blew outside Musillon City, filling the air with a fiery atmosphere. Amidst such high temperatures, the troops stationed here felt extremely irritable. The Wood Elves retreated to nearby forests to escape the heat, while the Dwarfs set up camp in shaded areas, bare-chested, drinking, bragging, and betting.

As for the human encampment, it was established not far from Musillon Castle, forming a majestic landscape of tents. Human soldiers, dripping with sweat, stood guard, patrolled back and forth, while the Master Knights gathered in small groups to discuss recent battles and the dilemma of war.

Laine’s large tent was naturally very spacious. The Lake God Witch Mogiana kept her word, leading the Lake God Prophets to make a larger and more luxurious tent for Laine, without charging him. Now, Laine was living in a 5X7 tent.

The tent was divided into an outer room and an inner room. With Teresa’s help, both were equipped with magic-driven floor air conditioning. Laine also disliked the heat outside, so he nestled inside the tent, enjoying the air conditioning and cold drinks. ℯ

After a week of futilely fierce attacks, with the weather hot and the troops fatigued, Laine ordered a rest period. He sent out scouts to reassess the terrain and topography near Musillon, temporarily holding back the troops and waiting for information.

Inside, cold air flowed from the air conditioner, and Laine sat leisurely in a chair, savoring iced orange juice. He exhaled lightly, dispelling the vexation of the unfavorable battle situation from his mind. He knew that anxiety was useless now; a strong attack was deemed unwise. Trying to push forward in such a hot season would only lead to wasted troops without any gains. In such heat, soldiers often became dehydrated and fatigued after about three hours of fighting. This army had fought under Laine for several months, and he felt they couldn’t be pushed too hard.

”Ah~ I like this~” Veronica was wearing a white sandy coral ice edge cloud low-cut hip skirt. Since there were no outsiders in the room, this outfit was quite bold, with the skirt twenty centimeters above the knee, and her slender, tender long legs unusually bare, without stockings. The red nail polish on her toes was flickering in front of Laine’s eyes. The Jialan Witch with a sweet appearance and a rosy face held a glass of iced sour plum juice, enjoying the air conditioning while reclining on a leisure chair, savoring the afternoon’s leisure. Her intelligent almond eyes turned here and there, her black-brown shoulder-length hair smooth as silk: ”Darling, still haven’t thought of a plan?”

”No, not really.” Laine leaned idly in his chair, also enjoying the cold air from the air conditioner: ”This army has shown signs of fatigue after long combat, and now all that’s left is this tough bone of Musillon to chew through. Patience, let’s rest for a couple of days; the weather is too hot recently.”

”Uh-huh~” Veronica lazily sipped her juice, kicking Laine lightly with her small foot: ”My suggestion is to end this war as soon as possible. Ending the war early will lessen the impact on the spring conscription of many peasants, our food supply is beginning to dwindle, and... Lady Surya will give birth soon, right? As a father, it’s best to end the war before the child is born.”

Laine nodded with a smile upon hearing this.

The Duke understood well; in truth, Veronica was nearly ten years older than Surya, but the witch always called her Lady Surya or Surya Sister. She was aware that some things could be contested, and some should be avoided. A smart witch knew how to steer clear of landmines. Looking at these three suggestions alone, Veronica summarized them very succinctly and accurately. Whether as a Lord, a commander, or a husband, Laine needed to conquer Musillon Castle as soon as possible.

”Indeed, I had previously stored enough food, but it’s not holding up against the daily consumption of tens of thousands of people and horses.” Laine knew the issue at hand, reclining in his chair with closed eyes: ”But at present, there’s no solution in sight. Lord Bohemond even suggested that we, the Holy Sanctuary Holy Grail Knights, attack the city head-on, but that sounds unrealistic.”

”Why?” Veronica asked curiously.

”Do you think over the years, the Kingdom’s Pegasus Knights haven’t tried it?” Laine shook his head helplessly: ”Musillon’s skies are protected by Undead Magic, and if we want to descend over dozens of meter-high city walls, we’d turn into giant live targets, facing Undead Magic attacks head-on. Our steeds wouldn’t be able to withstand it, and Kaled, Bohemond all ride Pure-blooded Elf Warhorses; only I ride a Griffin, Francois a Pure-blooded Pegasus.”

The first Duke of Paragon among the initial twelve Holy Grail Knights, Agirgel, died over eighty years after Arthur’s death, amidst the Paragon Peaks. He fought a Two-legged Flying Dragon while riding a Pegasus. He successfully killed the dragon, but before dying, the dragon heavily injured his Pegasus, and this is how a founding Holy Grail Knight fell, crashing from several thousand meters high, dying alive.

The two chatted for a while longer. Laine could see that the witch thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon time. Since the Lake God Witch Mogiana stayed in Kulona to heal Lorne, the major Casters for the series of battles to reclaim Musillon were Veronica and Teresa’s Witch Corps.
