Chapter 1320: Chapter 566: Musillon Night Talk (Part 3)

”The important thing is still the population, Laine.” Teresa poured herself a full bowl of white sauce beef stew. The female sorcerer offered her suggestion: ”Musillon can accommodate at least one million people here, but we only have a population of one hundred and twenty thousand. Even if you could relocate some people from Glamorgan, the gap is still too large.”

”Leonais will send over another twenty thousand refugees.” Laine nodded, agreeing with Teresa’s point.

”That’s not enough, only twenty thousand, not even two hundred thousand would suffice.” The female sorcerer spoke bluntly in front of the two Imperial Generals and Lucian: ”We need a sufficient population, otherwise it will be impossible to restore Musillon to its former glory.”

”Indeed, Lady Trovik is right, my Duke, we need population.” Lucian also agreed with Teresa’s view, adding: ”Without sufficient population, how can we revive this place? The current situation is that we can’t even gather enough people to farm.”

”Hmm...” Laine pursed his lips and nodded, acknowledging that his Musillon needs population.

”This time, we need to rely on our Imperial brothers.” After pondering for a moment, Laine turned his gaze to Dietrich and Boris: ”Nuer and the Weisen Territory have a large population, right?”

”???” Dietrich was taken aback, and the Imperial General quickly replied: ”Well... Lord Laine, Nuer and the Weisen Territory do have a large population, but there’s not much surplus population. Are you thinking of relocating people from us to Musillon? Uh... we can help you issue a notice, but...”

”No, I don’t plan to import population from Nuer.” Laine shook his head and said calmly: ”Even if I were to import, it would be from Nuer for technical talent and scholars, as well as human engineers.”

”So... Lord Laine, how do you plan to solve the population issue?” Boris asked with curiosity.

”Apart from Nuer, the Empire has other large cities, hasn’t it? Especially downstream, there’s a population, and a lot of it.” Laine spoke calmly: ”The population there not only fails to help the city but has become an extremely heavy burden. Even so, aren’t people from all over the Empire still flocking there crazily?”

”Are you referring to... Capital Brunswick?!” Dietrich immediately thought of something, and after a moment of pondering, the Imperial General suddenly felt that this might indeed be feasible.

The Imperial Capital Brunswick has always been a city plagued by congestion and blockages. After several expansions of its city walls, it has reached its limit, and its capacity for population is around two hundred to three hundred thousand.

But in reality?

The constant floating population in Brunswick is around one million. During the lean times each year, refugees, adventurers, and those escaping famine and war from various territories of the Empire flock to the capital in waves, trying every possible way to find work in Brunswick.

Thus, the entire city is permanently immersed in crowded human tides, overwhelming stench, and noisy sounds. At this point, population is no longer a resource but a heavy burden.

Dietrich could confirm that if Laine proposed accepting a portion of Brunswick’s population, Emperor Carl Franz would undoubtedly be willing to sit at the negotiation table and engage in a mutually beneficial discussion with Laine!

”Exactly, Brunswick.” Laine nodded: ”Last time I went to Brunswick, I discovered this issue. I believe Emperor Carl Franz will be willing to release a portion of the population to me. I can gain the urgently needed population resources, and he can alleviate the city’s population pressure. However, I definitely won’t let him keep all the quality population and dump all the old, weak, sick, and disabled onto me. This can only be talked about gradually.”

”Additionally, next year I will set off for Brunswick, and then head to Nuer.” Laine took out an embossed envelope adorned with a skull, laurel wreath, and Iron Cross: ”This is a handwritten letter from Emperor Carl Franz.”

”Our Emperor invites you to Brunswick?” Boris von Rukov asked.

”He invited me to attend a ceremony, and Emmanuelle must have been invited too.” Laine’s lips curled up with a gentle smile on his face, saying: ”Because, next year there will be a significant personnel change.”

”Next year, the Eight Great Magic Academies of the Imperial Royal Wizard Academy will gather in Brunswick for a competition.”

”This competition will select the new Royal Chief Grand Wizard and the new highest dean of the Royal Wizard Academy!”
