Chapter 1316: Chapter 564: Musillon’s New Master_2

It seems that he recalled something, and Laine finally smiled: ”Yes, indeed.”

Imperial General Dietrich and Deputy General Boris von Rukov were amazed by the scenery of Musillon. Dietrich looked at the city: ”Boris, have you ever been to Modheim?”

”No, it’s said that only heinous criminals and reckless adventurers go there.” Boris von Rukov said gloomily: ”Do I look like those kinds of people, officer?”

”I’ve been there.” Dietrich said: ”When I was young, I was ordered to go to Modheim for investigation, and the scene there was just like it is here now.”

”To think one could breach such a formidable fortress, His Grace Laine Macado is truly an extraordinary man.” Boris von Rukov felt a bit awkward, so he changed the subject: ”The battle seems to be over, we should head back.”

”Let’s rest for a few days.” Dietrich nodded: ”No need to rush, we’ve suffered significant losses, out of five thousand, there are only over two thousand left now, we need more compensation.”

The army gradually approached Merovin Castle in the North City District.

Merovin Castle has three layers, consisting of the outer wall, the inner castle, and the spire between them. This castle began construction during the time of the Mad Duke Merovin, and it has a history of five hundred years. After the Mad Duke Merovin incident, it was abandoned and destroyed but was soon rebuilt. The black high walls, vampire sculptures, and black base gold snake crest were obviously newly added.

The dwarves and wood elves felt quite uneasy about this castle. Belgar mumbled that it was better to tear it down and rebuild it, while Alaros thought more trees should be planted to purify the corruption.

Now, Mathew Bade is dead, and the Blood Dragon Race has fully retreated. The castle gates stand open, and inside there is nothing left except for the countless gold and silver treasures accumulated by the vampires over the years. When Laine and others arrived at the castle gate, Holy Temple Knight Alfred emerged from the side: ”Laine! My good friend, you are the one who captured Musillon! Having achieved such a feat, aren’t you going to write something at the castle gate?”

”What can a rural Nord like me write?” Laine heard this and laughed heartily.

After the siege, Alfred was found near a small pond outside the city. At the time, he was unconscious, with a dislocated arm, and bruises all over, but fortunately, he wasn’t severely hurt. He seemed to be affected by the explosion, with hazy memories of it, only remembering that he ignited the gunpowder and then ran desperately outside before being knocked out by the explosion.

Veronica inferred that Alfred was likely blown away near the exit.

For capturing Musillon, Alfred deserves the highest credit.

The Holy Temple Knight, with his whole body wrapped in bandages except for his right hand, nudged Laine, grinning: ”Write something, you are His Grace the Duke now, it’s fitting to leave a famous quote!”

”That’s true, Laine, write something, it’s a good commemorative act.” Francois also smiled and said: ”What Nord yokel, you are bona fide Brittania, my son-in-law, don’t call yourself that anymore.”

”Indeed, Laine, you are to be King in the future. Don’t call yourself Nord every day. Look at your appearance, nothing like them. At most, you were just raised by them.” Bohemond added: ”Having married Surya, you’re one of us Brittania.”

Laine nodded silently, indeed thinking he should write something.

The Lake Fairy Chosen Champion’s fingertip flickered with spiritual lightning. After pondering, he inscribed these words on Merovin Castle: ”Then let me write something. Sadly, eloquence isn’t my forte, but it’s better than nothing!”

”Summer breezes flutter the iris plume, Musillon stands with just a name.”

”Shadows gathered for three hundred years, heroes’ blood spilled here, as the tides recede, as dew drops wither, past events, like dreams within dreams, light the darkness of the mortal world and depart.”

Everyone was enthusiastic, but upon seeing Laine’s inscription, they all fell silent.

They remembered the countless soldiers who fell under Musillon over three hundred years, the knights and soldiers who perished in this year’s series of wars since February, the sacrificed Duke Aldred of Leonais and Duke Fulcard of Montfort, the severely wounded Lorne, and the Lake Knight Landuin who sacrificed himself to save Musillon.

To reclaim Musillon, the knights of Brittania shed their blood.

Subordinates and allies felt comforted by Laine’s remembrance of the fallen, many knights with relatives or friends slain in the wars couldn’t help shedding tears.

But ultimately, all the glory rests with Laine, for initiating the Musillon reclamation war. After half a year of arduous battles, he reclaimed Musillon, becoming the new Duke of Musillon, opening a new Chapter in the Knight Kingdom’s history.

Gazing at the devastated city, gently stroking the gates of Merovin Castle, Laine recalled a familiar saying.

The bones of ten thousand lie beneath the feat of one general!

...Divider of Onsite Inscription...

Five days later.

The Blood Dragon Race vampires in Musillon had fully retreated, and other undead were completely slaughtered. Hence, the city had no remaining resistance. The army meticulously searched every street, confiscating all assets for the state. Holy Grail Knights immediately started reconstructing the Holy Grail Church, mercilessly burning and rebuilding all dark corners. After careful inspection, half of Musillon’s buildings were ”purified” by flame, with the remaining half to be rebuilt.

In Laine’s temporary quarters on Landuin Street, all the great nobles and significant figures gathered, including Duke Francois of Winford, Duke Bohemond of Bastogne, Count Kaled of Galament, Baron Fidmund of Bodlukes, Paladin Jerald, King Belgar of the Angland Clan, Lord Alaros of Tasien Forest, Laine’s two female courtiers Veronica and Teresa, Holy Temple Knight Alfred, and a host of knights under Laine’s command, with Sir Bertrand, ”Green Arrow” of Lord Winford, in the lowest seat.

”There are still more than twenty-thousand residents in the city,” Baron Devon Hex introduced: ”We have conscripted them all as laborers, gathered to incinerate all corpses, and rebuild Musillon City, projected to take three to five months. During this, we will provide meals. Currently, including these people, Musillon has about one hundred and twenty thousand inhabitants, all under our control.”

”We seized about thirty-six thousand gold crowns’ worth of wealth in Merovin Castle, which King Belgar will purify for us.” Hex continued: ”Besides the castle wealth, we collected approximately twenty thousand gold crowns throughout the city, which will also be entrusted to King Belgar for purification.”

”Leave it to the dwarves!” Belgar raised the Hammer of Angland, signaling he understood.

After speaking, as if by some tacit understanding, everyone simultaneously fell into silence, especially Laine’s knights and nobles, who seemed to have a mutual understanding; a pair of fiery, excited eyes focused on the new Duke of Musillon, Laine Macado, smiling silently in his seat.

Even the Standard Bearer, Holy Grail Knight Armand, was no exception.

The battles were over, and the cleanup and post-war arrangements were almost complete.

Shouldn’t it be... that time now?

All eyes filled with expectation were directed at Laine. Such merits have earned him the Duke of Musillon title, ensuring his future knight’s throne, and now that Musillon is reclaimed, it’s their turn!

Laine stood up with a smile: ”Ahem, alright, I have something to announce next.”

”Oh, oh, oh, oh!” The entire hall was abuzz, the knights awaited this moment! Everyone awaited this!

”Now, let me announce the new personnel arrangements and allocation of the spoils!”
