Chapter 1318: Chapter 566: Musillon Night Talk

PS: This Chapter contains 4700 words. I hope everyone enjoys reading it.

Musillon has been liberated. As night falls, the entire city is now under the control of the human army, with patrols scouring the city, searching for any remaining enemies. Meanwhile, many soldiers still can’t take their minds off the wealth hidden in the ruins of collapsed houses and some old mansions, turning over everything to find a forgotten fortune.

Indeed, a handful of lucky ones stumbled upon a bit of wealth, and the matter was reported to Baron Devon Hex. Hex thought it over carefully and decided there was no need to intervene, opting to turn a blind eye.

The city of Musillon is simply too large. In reality, even a force of over twenty thousand troops is not enough to search every corner of the city, especially in the shed district and the Lost District, where many hidden trails, cellars, and secret underground rooms abound. The army has spent considerable time but hasn’t managed to cleanly search these areas. At this point, some soldiers willing to proactively search house by house might be considered good news.

After the grand enfeoffment, Laine and others stayed on Landuin Street in Jiangxin. Laine chose a three-story medium noble mansion for himself, which was cleared out and simplified to serve temporarily as his residence.

Today, Laine is hosting a banquet for Imperial General Dietrich from Imperial Nuer, his deputy Boris von Rukov, Laine’s subordinate Baron Lucian of the Sharp-Top Palace, and his good friend Alfred.

Due to reduced food reserves and the recovery efforts in Musillon, Laine’s banquet is straightforward, not strictly following the usual order of serving courses. For this banquet, Laine prepared four main dishes in total.

The first dish is a large casserole full of potatoes, corn, pork, chicken, lamb, and bacon, seasoned with various spices.

The second dish is the famous Brittania white-sauce stewed veal, named for the white sauce drizzled over it. The dish is made from the brisket or shoulder meat of a calf, boiled with carrots, celery, and onions. White-sauce stewed beef pairs perfectly with Beaujolais sparkling wine.

The third dish is Leonais fish soup, made from fish stock, bread slices dipped in garlic, and potatoes. This coastal delicacy is an absolute delight when coupled with red wine from the Boldro Broken Valley vineyard.

The final dish is Musillon’s renowned frog dish. If there’s one thing Musillon has in abundance, it’s snails and frogs. This amphibian has been featured on Brittania people’s tables for over a thousand years and remains a primary source of meat for many here. The tender frog meat is enjoyed with garlic butter and parsley, offering a marvelous taste with life-prolonging effects. It’s said that Musillon people eat one million frogs annually, a figure Laine doesn’t know how was calculated. Nonetheless, when in Musillon, one must do as the locals and try the famous frog dish.

Joining Laine at the table is his female courtier Teresa. Due to the intense July heat and the previous heavy consumption of mana in freezing the underground river, Teresa has been in a slump lately, so she accompanies Laine for activities, treating it as a rest vacation.

At the dining table, the clanging of silver platters and utensils is incessant as the two Imperial Generals sit across from Laine, feeling somewhat restrained in their eating.

The person before them is now a Duke with the same status as Duchess Emmanuelle of Nuer, whom they serve.

More importantly, during the entire Musillon recovery campaign, they personally witnessed Laine’s martial valor.

The personal valor of the Lake Fairy Chosen Champion speaks for itself. The two Imperial Generals compared Nuer’s strongest warrior, Nuer Champion, and Nuer Grand Judge Theodore Bruckner to Laine, sighing internally because they are far inferior. Theodore Bruckner’s strength is not even comparable to Kaled’s, let alone Laine’s who has consecutively defeated Great Demon of Tzeentch, then Landuin, and finally Mathew Bade before the awestruck crowds of Kulona.

Strong individuals earn respect everywhere. Any prior dissatisfaction Dietrich and Boris had toward Laine dissipated after witnessing his prowess firsthand. Especially Boris von Rukov, they thought the Duchess Emmanuelle’s interest in Laine was not without reason.

Moreover, in a few years, he will become the King of this nation.

However, precisely because of this, the two feel awkward. After all, they complained about Laine in front of Duke Lorne, uncertain whether these whispers reached Laine. Having spoken ill of someone, they naturally couldn’t hold themselves upright before Laine.

”Mr. Dietrich, Mr. Boris, thank you for coming such a long way. This battle has cost you dearly, so you shouldn’t rush back. Take more time to recover,” Laine, understanding why Dietrich and Boris were silent, did not expose them. The Duke of Musillon had a subtle smile: ”You’re not in a hurry to return to Nuer, are you?”

Dietrich thought inwardly that Musillon is now in ruins. Staying here means working for free, right? The Imperial General pretended to contemplate and then quietly replied, ”It’s better to return early. Now that Musillon is recovered, staying here serves no purpose. We’ve suffered significant losses this time, with more than half our siege equipment lost. Once we return to Nuer, Lady Duchess will surely reprimand us.”
