Warhammer Divine Throne

Chapter 1301: Chapter 557: Deliberating Musillon (Part 2)

”Then shut up!” Bohemond sneered, he was about to say something further when Francois motioned for Bohemond to stop pressing on: ”Alright, all this has already happened, Lady Veronica was also thinking for Laine, don’t be so harsh on her.”

”Either propose a solution to the problem or shut up, what’s the use of complaining...” Bohemond muttered: ”Alright, let’s continue with the topic, where were we just now?”

Laine held Veronica’s small hand to signal the Witch not to take it to heart: ”We were just saying, I believe Richard’s attitude is mostly benevolent because the issue is simple, if he obstructs me from becoming king, then who benefits from it? Would it be Lorne?”

”Of course not, in fact, all the nobles of the Kingdom know that even if Lorne were still alive, he wouldn’t be able to inherit the throne.” Francois picked up the topic, he also nodded to Veronica indicating she shouldn’t take it to heart.

”Hmm, that’s true.” Bohemond understood it now.

Mathew Bade has been confirmed to be Lorne’s illegitimate son, in this situation, Lorne has already lost the qualification to be king, under these conditions, now only Laine remains as the one qualified candidate, no matter how you choose, it’s him.

”Speaking of the Mathew Bade rebellion, I actually think he was destined to fail.” Laine lifted the fresh orange juice sent by the attendant and took a sip, smacking his lips: ”Because his approach doomed him to fail.”

”He was contradictory.” Francois forked a delicious black pepper roasted beef, the wise Duke of Winford nodded: ”Or rather, he himself was very contradictory, on one hand, he still considered himself Lorne’s son, his legitimate heir, he thought he ought to take back what was his and avenge his mother.”

”But on the other hand, Mathew Bade was also the godson of the Witch Demon King Akhan, his identity as a godson destined him to belong to the Undead Vampire Faction, he had to use the power of the undead for his revenge, so he had to claim to be the Duke of Musillon, he had to become the leader of the undead.” Francois concluded: ”But this was beyond the scope of the Kingdom’s internal affairs, under such circumstances, everyone would oppose him.”

Laine was very calm, a slight smile appeared on his face, carefully recalling a series of Mathew Bade’s deeds, the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy incessantly bitterly chuckled: ”Indeed, so Mathew Bade is a contradiction in himself. If he simply wanted revenge, just wanted to seize power legally, he should work hard to become a Holy Grail Knight, strive to gain the right to speak, and then pursue a glorious duel to defeat Lorne and complete his revenge. If he just wanted to destroy this country, he should turn everyone into the undead and fight desperately, especially after he yielded to Chaos, he could even seek the power of the Evil God to help achieve his revenge purpose, after all, he already did not spare any cost for revenge.”

”But Mathew Bade did not, he was very contradictory, his identity destined him to not find his place, he couldn’t find the balance between being human and being part of the undead faction, he was both a child of revenge and the legitimate son of a duke and a godson of the Witch Demon King, he tried to combine these three identities, thus what he did seemed self-contradictory, which is the reason why he was doomed to tragedy and the origin of some inexplicable decisions he made during the rebellion.” Laine said in a deep voice: ”Because the living and the dead are doomed to be unable to coexist, and mortals are also doomed to not be able to coexist with Chaos!”

”He was just a pawn being used, but he was willing, his life is a tragedy.” Francois nodded in agreement: ”His tragedy lies in being born from a laundress, his tragedy lies in the overwhelming burden of his life, his tragedy also lies in revenge consuming his everything, he could have been an excellent knight that brought a glorious era to Brittania.”

”Now that viper is already dead.” Bohemond listened to Laine and Francois’s discussion, the Red Dragon Duke only let out a sigh: ”Let’s change the topic, Laine, so are you planning to recapture Musillon and then ascend the throne?”

”Not so fast.” When it came to this topic, Laine perked up and said in a deep voice: ”Even if Musillon is taken, I will need at least two to three years to buffer, and then consider inheriting the throne.”

”Why?!” Bohemond was very surprised: ”Haven’t you always wanted to be the Knight King?”

Laine and Francois exchanged a glance, their eyes full of helplessness.

”Berchie, don’t forget, Laine must ascend as the Duke of Musillon.” Francois actively explained: ”But now the entire Musillon is a blank slate, and there are likely not even one hundred thousand people left, reconstruction is a massive project, many tedious matters need Laine’s attention, if he doesn’t consolidate his territory’s foundation and hastily chooses to ascend, even if Laine becomes king, he will not be able to securely hold his throne.”

What his father-in-law said is exactly what Laine had in mind.

It’s not that Laine actually becoming king means he can seamlessly command the entire kingdom, Francois had discussed this with him.

Power lies below, not above, it has never been that once you have the throne, you can casually command the entire kingdom, but rather winning everyone’s support before ascending to the throne to better gain people’s allegiance.

Laine wants to be a king who can truly command the entire kingdom, he must consolidate his foundation, he must restore Musillon’s former glory, he must have an elite army, ample wealth, and his own Household Corps, but right now he has none of these.
