Warhammer Divine Throne

Chapter 1052: Chapter 459: Daughter-in-Law and ”Daughter-in-Law

Laine rode away, the Emperor and four others sat in the open courtyard of the Forest Cottage, Angerong staring at Laine’s departing figure, shook his head, he wanted to say something but decided to conceal: ”Father, try the Dwarf’s Bagman Beer, it’s delicious.”

The Emperor and the Genetic Primarchs sat down, the Imperial Guard carried in a whole roast lamb, freshly cooked, flames burned amidst the icy weather, succulent fats dripped into the fire pit and scattered, under the winter’s clear sky, they chatted idly, Lorgar gradually learned many things from Angerong and the Emperor.

”It seems like you’re having a good life, Angerong, I’m sincerely happy for you, Khorne has delivered a message...” Lorgar wore a sour expression.

”Whoever can kill me can ascend to a demon, right?! This is the third time I’ve heard this news!” Angerong replied impatiently: ”No need to say more!”

”Laine Macado... a new brother, Father, is that the work of your loyal dog? I thought he had turned to dust on the Golden Throne.” Lorgar learned from Angerong about Laine’s origin, his face filled with disgust and disdain: ”Didn’t expect your loyal dog to leave you a final gift?”

After speaking, without waiting for the Emperor’s response, Lorgar continued on his own: ”Indeed, as much as you know, our Imperial Chancellor knows, since you only trust him, he’s so like you, he and Kiliman came to the Perfect City, destroyed my life’s work, and then ordered me to kneel and apologize, I challenged him face to face, he flashed away, coward!”

”My friend Macado sacrificed almost everything for me, loyal, capable, dealing with problems with rationality and wisdom, he died for me yet left me a last gift, you won’t understand Macado’s importance to me, in some ways, your stance and Macado’s stance are inherently opposed, because you cannot comprehend how preservation is more difficult than conquest.” The Emperor raised a glass of dark beer, a trace of nostalgia appeared on his supremely bright and glorious face: ”His style and principles are seen by you as worthless, but for the Empire, they are priceless.”

”Insidious, cunning, tedious, your Imperial Chancellor is like the head of a spy hiding in a dark room all day plotting conspiracies, always scheming, that’s what I hate about him, I’ve wanted to kill him many times!” Angerong’s face emitted an angry blood-red aura, he reminisced briefly, finally shaking his head: ”But Laine is different, he’s a good brother, I like him a lot.”

”Back then, did you need a reason to kill, Angerong? With the Butcher’s Nail in your head, you wanted to kill everyone, without needing a reason, just like Petrabo hated everyone, without needing a reason.” Clarkson calmly shook his head: ”Your words can’t be used as evidence, but it’s a fact that nearly all Primarchs dislike Macado, he opposes spiritual energy yet loves displaying his spiritual power only second to Father, he spends all day gathering intelligence on Primarchs and using spiritual energy to detect their loyalty, he’s like you, indifferent to the death of countless lives, as long as the goal is achieved, whenever problems arise, he always prefers using his bureaucratic methods to solve them.”

”Exactly, I agree.” Lorgar also expressed agreement.

”That’s the situation.” Angerong also nodded.

A flash of disappointment crossed the Emperor’s face, realizing the three Primarchs before him weren’t fit for discussions of Macado’s achievements, more suitable would be Fugen or Kiliman, yet thinking of Laine, the Emperor still decided to speak: ”So I’ve said, you cannot understand Macado’s contributions, he established the imperial bureaucratic system effective to this day, he shouldered countless complex governmental tasks and nearly endless personnel deployments, when you completed conquests, you could comfortably lead your offspring away, leaving countless troubles and issues of balancing the relationship between surrendered Warlords and imperial power to him, and he always silently bore the heavy responsibility.”

”For an Empire, one or even a group of fierce Generals are not indispensable, but an irreplaceable Chancellor able to govern the entire country, Macado bore the ’necessary evil’ for me, spending a lifetime following me, serving me until I needed him to sacrifice for me, he did not hesitate to give his life, he was my Seal Master, and I will forever remember his contributions.”

”He also left me Laine, the Grey Knight’s Genetic Primarch, this was his last and greatest discovery over the long years, he used his life to complete it, and he succeeded, Laine is now slowly growing, I’ve granted him Macado’s surname, which already shows my stance.”

Upon hearing this, Lorgar, Clarkson, and even Angerong who had been residing here for several years all understood, the Emperor’s implication was clear.

I indeed favor Laine, because he is the final gift Macado left me.

Sure enough, just as the Emperor envisioned, Lorgar and Angerong wore expressions of displeasure, while Clarkson was lost in thought.

”He mixes with aliens.” After a long pause, Clarkson voluntarily spoke: ”Last time we came here to attend his wedding, we discovered he kept an alien by his side, his wife even worships the Alien God.”
